WITH A MASTER IT IS A RISKY GAME. WITH A TEACHER IT IS ALWAYS SAFE. YOU

HAVE TO BE TOTAL WITH A MASTER. YOU HAVE TO BE IN THE PRESENT WITH THE

MASTER. HE WILL NOT GUARANTEE YOU ANYTHING. HE WILL SUGGEST YOU TO BE

WITH THE FLOW OF LIFE. IT IS PURE LOVE THAT FLOWS FROM THE HEART. IT IS

FLOWERING. IT IS A PROCESS OF UNWINDING AND UNLEARNING. HE BESTOWS

WISDOM. HE WILL TAKE YOU CLOSER TO TRUTH AND TRUTH IS ONLY FOR THOSE

WHO ARE WILLING TO TAKE RISK OF BEING IN THE PRESENT, NOT BE FUTURISTIC.

THAT IS WHY MASTER IS RISKY. UNLESS YOU SURRENDER YOUR WHOLE BEING IT IS

NOT POSSIBLE TO HAVE A MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MASTER. WITH

THE TEACHER IT IS SAFE. HE WILL PUMP YOUR EGO. HE WILL GIVE KNOWLEDGE.

HE WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO MAKE MONEY. HE WILL BE FUTURISTIC. IT IS A PRO-

CESS OF WINDING AND LEARNING. HE BESTOWS KNOWLEDGE. SO, ONE NEEDS TO

DECIDE WHETHER HE NEEDS A MASTER OR A TEACHER BEFORE ENTERING THE

SYSTEM. LORD’S GRACE AND MERCY. ENJOY.

SHAKING HANDS, HOLDING HANDS IS CONSIDERED AS A SIGN OF WARMTH AND

FRIENDSHIP IN THE PRESENT DAY WORLD. AADI SHANKARA DURING HIS DAYS

WANTED THE LORD TO HOLD HIS HANDS AND TAKE HIM THROUGH. HE SAYS WHEN

THE Praana LEAVES THE BODY, IT MAY BE SUBJECTED TO A LOT OF FEAR SINCE

THE DESTINATION IS UNKNOWN. SO, LORD LAKSHMI NRUSIMHA, PLEASE HOLD MY

HAND IN THE LAST MINUTE TO SAFELY ACCOMPANY ME TO THE DESTINATION OF

YOUR CHOICE. WHEN YOU CATCH MY HAND, THERE SHALL NOT BE ANY FEAR AND

MY JOURNEY IN TO THE UNKNOWN WILL BE SAFE, FOR IT IS IN THE SAFEST HANDS

POSSIBLE. LORD IS CALLED ’Marga bandhu’ A FRIEND WHO GIVES THE HELPING

Lord Bhairava - ‘Kshetrapalar’

Lord Bhairava is also called ‘Kshetrapalar’. He protects the place where he resides.

In all Shiva temples and many Shakthi temples the ‘Kshetrapalar’ is Lord Bhairava. When

the temple is closed, the authorities in charge of temple

administration will hand over the keys of the temple to ‘Kshetrapala Bhairava’ for

guarding it at nights. The legend says he keeps roaming around the place guarding the

temple premises. Lord Shiva in the form of ‘Kshetrapala

Bha i rava ’ p ro t ec t s the

surrounding.

Those days, in villages/towns/

cities, on the outskirts, they used to install ‘Kshetrapala

Bhairava’, facing south, in the north east direction. The faith is that he guards the entire

village/town/city.

In case you keep chanting the name of ‘Kshetrapala Bhairava’, he guards your

body, mind and soul. No harm can be caused to your

body, mind or soul by anyone or anything.

The meaning goes like this ... ‘Kshetra’ is the place ... May be

c i t y o r y o u r s e l f . ‘Palar’ is the one who stands as

guard protecting it.

Worldly pleasures are like a serpent's grip

(NOTE: In this story 'Me' is Swami)

One person came to Me about thirty years ago and prayed that he should meet his exami-

nation with success and secure a high first class. I told him that there will have to be ef-

fort and the result will be according to God's will. I gave him My blessings and sent him

away. He did secure a high first class and came to Me again after passing his examination

and asked for My blessings so that he may get a job. He did get a job within a month.

He again came to Me after a few months. He said he got a job, that he was happy, and he

also said he wanted to marry a typist girl in his own office. I told him that if it is agreeable

to his father and mother, he may do so but they may not like it. He was not inclined to lis-

ten to Me. He said that even if it meant transgressing the wishes of his parents, he was

determined to marry that girl. He in fact suggested that he would even give up his life, if

this marriage was not possible. I told him that he must convince his parents before enter-

ing into such an alliance. He brought a lot of pressure on his parents and they, finding no

other alternative, agreed to the marriage. The marriage was over and after a year, both of

them came to me again and said they wanted a son.

After the birth of a son his expenses multiplied, his wife gave up the job, and he came to

Me desiring a promotion. By his good luck, he got a promotion. Although he was some-

what foolish in regard to worldly matters, he had great faith in regard to matters relating

to Swami. I gave him My blessings and he got a promotion. He did not turn up thereafter

for over five years. They had four children. He came again to Me after five years and said

that he was fed up with the family, said that he cannot bear the burden of the family and

that he was looking for relief from all the mess. He said that he wanted a small job in the

âs'ram itself and said that his family has now got a hold over him like a big serpent. I

asked him if the serpent caught him on its own or whether he let the serpent come to him

and catch him?

Surrender, is that you?

2020, unfolded challenges,

One, more intense than the other. Mind, body, emotion, and energy in devotion plunge.

Hoping tomorrow would feel like a feather!

Pain and relief came as mandatory visitors, Who seldom rang the doorbell.

They were such remarkable impostors, My intelligence in fatigue fell.

‘I can do this,’ said Grit and out of sight it ran.

‘Well, it is all relative,’ said logic but I forget how it all began. I now see nothing, but the Surrender catamaran,

Surrender, was this your grand plan?

The True Aim of Life

Shambhu Mallick was a wealthy disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. Wishing to put his money to good

use, he once sought the Master’s blessings for his charitable projects like building hospitals,

digging wells and making roads. Sri Ramakrishna replied, “It is good to do such things in a

spirit of detachments, but that is very difficult. It is important to do good in the world but

remember that the true aim of life is the attainment of God and not building hospitals and

dispensaries.”

The Master also asked Shambhu, “If God appeared before you to grant you a boon, would you

ask Him for pure love of His lotus feet or would you ask for buildings and roads?” God alone is

real. He is the Doer and we are all His instruments. After realizing Him, one may, through His

grace, become His instrument in building many hospitals and dispensaries.

THREE CLASSES OF PHYSICIANS

For the seekers of God the constant company of holy men is necessary. It is important to carry

out the instructions of the holy men, as merely listening is not going to help.

There are three classes of physicians: superior, mediocre, and inferior. The inferior one checks

the patient’s pulse, asks him a few questions, prescribes medicines, and goes away, without

checking whether his instructions are being followed. The mediocre one gently tries to persuade

the patient to take the medicines but does not go beyond that. The superior physician, if he finds

the patient stubborn, makes him to swallow the medicine, using physical force if needed, as he

wants to make sure that the patient is cured of his disease.

Likewise, the inferior teacher is merely content with giving spiritual instruction, without caring

for the student beyond that. The mediocre one patiently explains again and again to the student,

hoping he would somehow assimilate his teachings. The superior one forces a stubborn student

to comply and follow his teachings towards disciplined sadhana, in order to attain the goal.

(….. Continued from 08/20 edition)

Patanjali Yoga Sutra – “Samadhi Pada”

Because the mind keeps changing, it makes us forget our true Self, and it identifies itself with untrue natures of the Self. For instance, when someone asks, “who are you?”, I may

say “I am an Engineer”, where I identify myself with my profession. I could say, “I am a dancer”, where I identify myself with my passion, and so on. Our true identity is thus dis-

torted. It is as if looking in a broken mirror.

Patanjali groups the fluctuations of the mind as two-fold: painful or painless. That means

the changes in the state of the mind can cause only one of these two things. However, painless does not mean pleasure, it means Peace. The mind can either bring us pain or peace, depending on what we put in it. Usually selfishness brings pain and selflessness

brings peace. If we do something with a selfish motive behind it, it will definitely bring us

pain at some point.

It is quite a normal thing with life these days, where we always expect something back, some kind of gain, for our deeds. “I worked so hard. I must get promoted”, or “I did so

much for my children, now it is their turn to take care of me”, or “I gave my friend that gift for her birthday, which was highly priced; she may give me an even better gift for mine”. There is no end to our expectations, and so there is no end to the disappointments either.

On the other hand, if we can live our lives selflessly with no expectations, with just being

at the service of the others, we will be in Peace.

Swami Sachidananda says, “There is nothing wrong with being Selfish, as long as your selfishness only cares about not disturbing your own Peace”. Which means, you can be at

Peace only when you are selfless and without expectations.

So, the purpose of Yoga is to restrain the mind from its fluctuations. Patanjali gives us

every single detail that we need to do this, to understand our mind. He tells us what caus-es fluctuations in the mind; he also explains the things that affect the mind. We will need

to understand these first, in order to restrain the mind from changing from its true Self,

as seen in the first Sutra.

Patanjali names five types of vrittis or fluctuations of the mind. They are: correct or right knowledge, misconception or incorrect knowledge, verbal delusion or imagination, sleep,

and memory. The mind is affected by each of these.

(To be continued…)

God Bless.

SRI SAI SATCHARIT IN OUR DAILY LIFE - 1

Om Sri SaiRam

I bow to Sri Sai and all of you.

By Sai’s will, I embark myself in making this contribution to this holy newsletter on a monthly basis. We all have read Sri Sai SatCharit and know it’s healing powers, both

physically and mentally. It is my intention to dive deep into this ocean of nectar and try to bring out such beautiful pearls which I consider to be useful in our day-to-day life. I pray to Lord Sai to guide me in this endeavor. I plan to address the chapters in the holy book

in a serial fashion. SaiRam.

CHAPTER 1

GOD’S WAYS ARE MYSTERIOUS!

Sri. Hemadpant opens the Satcharit by offering his salutations to all the gods, starting from Lord Ganesha and then to his parents, ancestors and elders, to his Gurus and in-

vokes them to be helpful in his task and finally surrenders everything at the Lotus feet of Samartha Sadguru Sri Saibaba of Shirdi. He then narrates a strange incident of watching

Sri Sai grinding wheat, one fine morning. A few ladies came to help Him out, and Baba

graciously allows them to do so. After grinding is over, the ladies started to take the ground flour to their homes, thinking Baba has no need for it. But, Baba gets very angry and asks them to take it to the 4 corners of Shirdi and dump it there. Hemadpant is be-

wildered at this and asks someone about it. The answer he got was that Baba did this strange thing to arrest the cholera epidemic from entering the Shirdi village. A more phil-

osophical explanation is also given here. Our karmas are the bottom stone of a grinder and devotion is the upper one. All the sins we accumulated are the wheat which is ground

and disposed by Baba.

Bow to Sri Sai! Peace be to all!

LIFE APPLICATION:

Learn to respect and seek the blessings of your Gods, parents, elders, ancestors and Gu-

rus in the form of Sri SaiBaba of Shirdi, before embarking any task.

In the presence of God and holy-men, be very attentive of their actions. Be the first to

serve them but never try to take the fruits of it!

Obey your Master implicitly. Never doubt or question HIM.

Trust in our Sai and know that HE is always ready to grind our sins if only we offer our

undivided devotion to HIM. He will surely protect us.

Sri Satchitananda SadGuru Sainath Maharaj ki Jai!
