Lent is a time of conversion and turning away from sin. This is a sacred time to return to God's grace and allow our relationship with Jesus to completely transform us! Jesus teaches about sin in the Gospel and God's patience with us. His lesson is God gives us multiple chances and multi-ple opportunities to bear fruit, we just need to be-come serious about making the effort to make some changes. The church provides what we need to cultivate that relationship with Jesus to stay near

and close to God, just as God always remains close to us! Repentance in Hebrew means to turn around or change directions. In Greek it has the connotation of a change of heart. Lent allows us that opportunity to change our hearts to be more in line with God. The sacrament of recon-ciliation is always there for us. Let's make good use of that great gift!

The first reading recounts Moses meeting with God. While God appears in the burning bush, God also reveals intimacy by offering his own name. We have that kind of relationship with the almighty. We can deeply know him personally and respond to his constant invitation! God is active and involved in our lives and our prayer allows us to participate in God's life! God has made himself known for each generation and contin-ues to pour out the abundance of his grace in the present age.

It is so exciting to watch the construction of our Parish Life Cen-ter! We have the ability and talent to allow great things to happen at Mary Queen of Peace! Together we can accomplish much; divided we will not succeed in any effort. Our new building will accommodate social, office, meeting and classroom space! I am grateful to those who put forth so much time, energy, and financial resources! It is never too late to join those committed to the success of this project. We still need to raise money to complete this project. If you have not yet made a commitment, please make a pledge. If you can afford to increase your pledge, it would be a great blessing for us! The Parish Life Center will help us realize the space we need to be an active and vibrant parish and prepared for those who want to be a part of this community! God bless you,

Father Michael Kaluza

Update on St Walburga School

(Hall):

Today the St. Walburga School Hall sits empty and is in a bad state of repair. Given the risks and safety issues in its present state

our Insurance Company requires that the building be taken down. In late 2017, Father Kaluza began discussions with the City of Rogers regarding a land swap which will provide us with the funds needed to demo the building. We are cur-rently waiting on a closing date from the City of Rogers. We anticipate that we will proceed with this project within the next few months.

This is not how we want to remember the St. Walburga School Hall. We celebrate the history and impact this school has had in the Fletcher area. It started in 1857 when the St. Walburga parish was officially organized. These early set-tlers could not envision a church without a school. In 1886 a one room school was built and in 1902 a larger school was built on the present site. Using brick from Dayton the new school was built by a German mason. The sisters of St. Francis arrived in 1904 and began a great history of zeal and scholarly competence which was to last some sixty-three years. What a blessing for so many.

We would like to hear from those that have been associated with the St. Walburga School. As a way to continue to cele-brate the proud heritage we will set up a section of each bulletin going forward to share your memories. Please send to [email protected] or drop off at the parish office. Depending on space we will share a few memories each week in the bulletin.

Funeral Luncheon Set Up

Volunteers are Needed!

Volunteers are needed to set up tables and chairs in St. Martin Hall for the occasional funeral luncheons at Mary Queen of Peace. This is a great opportunity for busy families, working adults, and students who would like to share their gift of time for our parish community, but don't have a lot of it! CONFIRMATION STUDENTS! This is a great opportunity to earn Confirmation hours! NOTE: To ensure compliance with the Safe Environment Policies, children must be accompanied by parent(s) at all times.

Ideally, we'd like to have a pool of people we could contact 3-4 days before a funeral - the more people that can help, the less time it will take -- and you're bound to meet some great people! You would be asked to set up tables and chairs the afternoon/evening before the funeral. Members of the Funeral Committee will be on hand to provide instruction. If you would be interested in signing up for this ministry, please contact Mary LeClaire at

[email protected] or 612-990-5086. Thank you for responding to God's call to serve His Kingdom!
