O God, let all the peoples praise you!

Do you feel much like praising God these days? In my recent interactions with people, I have come to the conclusion that a great many people are not feeling strong desires to praise God. The reasons for the “lack of praise” feelings are as varied as people themselves, but a great deal of them deal with the effects of COVID 19. The uncertainty of the future, the seemingly lack of

“normalcy”, the diversity of the responses by a diversity of people to a diversity of situations and other variables can leave a person feeling tired and uneasy. In the midst of all this, the Psalm at Mass this Sunday, calls all the nations to praise God:

“May all the peoples praise you, O God, may all the peoples praise you!” It is often in the times we feel least like praising God, that we most need to do so. Our praise comes not because our lives are easy and enjoyable, but because we recognize the difficulties of the present world are reminders that God has called us to look beyond the brokenness of the present world to the glories that await us in heaven. And that, even when things seem to be going badly in our world, God is still in charge.

In the second reading to the Romans, Paul reminds us that “the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.” That means that our call to live the gospel as chosen sons and daughters of the Lord does not become void when life gets challenging. We cannot simply be “fair weather friends” of God who only praise his greatness when things are going our way or are easy and fun.

While there may be no shortage of things that are not necessarily praiseworthy, if we take time to look around our world at the beauty of nature, the comfort of our community, friends and family, God’s promises that are found in his Word, and the peace that can be ours through our prayer and union with his, we may soon find that we have a whole new list of things about which to lift our voices in praise!

God Bless, Father Mark Pavlik

Due to all the uncertainty surrounding COVID 19, our Annual Fall Festival will look different this year. After much contemplation, a decision has

been made to take the year off from gathering on church grounds for the Festival.

The Fall Festival is our only parish-wide fundraiser each year. We will be having the main raffle drawing only. The raffle drawing will take place on Sunday, September 27.

This year we will reduce the number of tickets to 30 for each family to sell or purchase, however, we have increased the ticket price to $10/ticket. By doing this we hope to reduce printing and postage costs as well as offset the loss of revenue for silent auction, farmers market, games, etc.. Please expect to receive your packet of tickets in the mail soon. If you have questions or would like to donate to the cash raffle, please contact Neva Gullickson at [email protected].
