    SEEKING THE LIGHT

In today’s readings we find ourselves being drawn more deeply into relationship with Jesus. We are getting to know more about him as we see how he struggles with the news of his cousin John’s arrest. His first response is to withdraw, to leave Nazareth and go to Capernaum. There he is perhaps both consoled and challenged by the words of Isaiah that Matthew quotes: “the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, / on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death / light has arisen” (Matthew 4:16). Jesus contem-plates his cousin’s death, perhaps his own death, and he seeks the light. Maybe it is these words of Isaiah that move Jesus out of his withdrawal and into action. He begins to preach, teach, cure disease and illness, and proclaim the gospel of the kingdom. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Word of Life Prayer Group Celebrates 26 Years

The Word of Life prayer group is celebrating its 26th Anniversary this month. Praise God for those who answered the promptings of the Holy Spirit in January 1994 to create this group.

Over the years, hundreds of parishioners have participated in the Life in the Spirit seminars, deepened their relationship with the Holy Spirit, and frequently engaged in ministry opportunities. We are truly grateful for the movement of the Holy Spirit within the parish.

The WOL prayer group meets 7 pm on Mondays in the Chapel of the Saints at St. Mary Church for adoration and prayer.

All are invited to join us at anytime throughout the year.

We invite you to pray for our 54 young teens as they take their final steps towards receiving the Holy Spirit. Individual Pray Cards are available in Holy Assumption and St. Mary’s for each teen. Please take one and pray daily for them. Additional prayers are available to pray for the whole grade. CLASS ATTENDANCE Regular class attendance and promptness are signs that parents and students recognize the importance of Religious Education. Our experience has been that if your child does not attend on a regular basis they will find it difficult to understand the subject matter and to keep up with the class. As stated on page 3 of the Parent Handbook – In the event of excessive absenteeism, a child may be delayed in moving to the next level! Email reminders will be going out over the next week for those children that have missed quite a few already. At this time, we are over half way through our program. Each family received a handbook at the beginning of the year. The handbook can also be found on our RE website. FIRST PENANCE Our 2nd Graders will be receiving their First Penance Sacrament this February. Please pray for all our boys and girls that they may open their hearts and minds to this beautiful sacrament of forgiveness. Help them turn to God for forgiveness. Those with true sorrow that confess their sins will be granted absolution.
