TAKING ON THE RANKS: Tonight’s game is the sixth time the Red Foxes will take on a rankedopponent on the road. In the 2005-06 season, Marist took on #9 UConn and #25 New Mexico. DELIGHTING IN DOUBLE-FIGURES: Rachele Fitz hasscored in double-figures in 37 straight games. In 19 of thosegames, Fitz has scored over 20 points. During this stretch sheis averaging 19.5 points per game while shooting 57.7% fromthe field and 86.1% from the free-throw line. In her career, Fitzhas scored 20 points or more 25 times.

A GRAND MILESTONE: Senior guard Julianne Viani became the 16th player in Marist history toscore over 1,000 points on Sunday, when she led all scorers with 19 points. She now has 1,005career points. Viani also set new career highs in both assists and steals against Harvard. The seniorcame into the season as Marist’s all-time leader in three-point field goal percentage at 37%. MAAC CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rachele Fitz was named the MAAC Co-Player of the Weekon Monday. She shared the award with Tammy Meyers of Rider. Fitz is the second straight Maristplayer to earn the honor, as Julianne Viani won the award on Nov. 17. The junior forward averaged27 points per game against Northeastern and Harvard and shot 74.1% from the field. She also aver-aged 7.5 rebounds per game.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS: Last sea-son Marist set a new program record in fieldgoal percentage defense, allowing teams toshoot 35.6% from the field. The Red Foxesallowed 57.1 points per game last season.Marist has been strong in defending the three-point arc this season, holding opponents to 28.2shooting.

SHARING THE WEALTH: Marist has assistedon 58 of 90 field goals this season. This meansthe Red Foxes have assisted on 64% of theirfield goals. Last season, Marist assisted on63.9% of its made field goals.

RUN THE TABLE: Last season, Marist becamethe first team since the MAAC expanded to 10teams in 1997 to go 18-0 during the conferenceregular season. CLEANING THE GLASS: Through three games this season, Marist has a rebounding margin of+4.3. Last season, the Red Foxes rebounding margin was +1.3. Marist held a 43-28 rebound advan-tage against Northeastern on Nov. 21. The Red Foxes have done a good job of turning offensiverebounds into points. Marist has turned 31 offensive rebounds into 40 second chance points.

START ON THE RIGHT FOOT: So far this season, Marist has outscored its opponents 120-69 inthe first half. The Red Foxes are shooting 55.4% from the field in the first half, while holding oppo-nents to a 33.7% clip. Marist is also holding the opposition to 14.8% beyond the arc.

COMPLETE TEAM EFFORT: Every Marist player has had at least one assist through the first threegames of the season. The Red Foxes lead the MAAC with 19.3 assists per game. Individually,Julianne Viani currently leads the MAAC with 6.7 assists per game and Elise Caron is seventh with3.0 assists per game.

SCOUTING OKLAHOMA: The Sooners entered the 2008-09 season as the team to beat in the Big12 conference. Ranked in the top-five in both preseason polls, Oklahoma returned four starters tothis year’s club including potential four-time All-American Courtney Paris. Paris has 101 career dou-ble-doubles, including a 19 point, 20 rebound performance against Arizona State on Saturday. TheSooners opened the season in the preseason WNIT, winning their first three games before falling toNorth Carolina 80-79 on Sunday. Ashley Paris led Oklahoma with 20 points and 11 rebounds in thegame. Paris leads the Sooners in scoring with 16 points per game. Courtney Paris averages 15.8points and 14.8 rebounds per game while shooting 65.9% from the field.

Brian Giorgis became Marist’s all-time leader in wins againstNortheastern on Nov. 23. In his seventh season at the helm,his career record stands at 142-50 with a winning percent-age of .740.

Giorgis had led the program to unprecedented heights in hisfirst six campaigns. Marist has improved the win total everyseason that Giorgis has coached. In 2007-08, the Red Foxesonce again set a new program-record with 32 wins. Maristbecame the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference team tofinish the regular season undefeated, going 18-0 to win itsfifth consecutive regular season title. The Red Foxes alsoearned their first in-season ranking in 2007-08 when theUSA Today/ESPN coaches poll ranked them 25th on Feb. 12.Marist was ranked as high as 20th in the poll by the end ofthe regular season. A new record 21-game winning streakpropelled Marist to its fourth MAAC Tournament title and aseventh-seed in the New Orleans Region of the NCAATournament.

Marist won its first round NCAA Tournament game for thesecond straight season, using a 39-7 run over the last 14:13of the game to defeat tenth-seeded DePaul 76-57. The RedFoxes took a 22-game winning streak, the nation's longestat the time, into their second round game against LSU.While Marist did fall to the Tigers, the Red Foxes showedthey can hang with the nation's elite teams for a secondstraight season. Giorgis earned two accolades for his workduring the 2007-08 season. He was named MAAC Coach ofthe Year, marking the fourth time in six seasons that heearned at least a share of the award. The MetropolitanBasketball Writers Association also honored Giorgis by nam-ing him and C. Vivian Stringer of Rutgers the Maggie DixonCo-Coaches of the Year.

Giorgis led Marist to a program-best 29 triumphs and its

third trip to the NCAA Tournament in the last four seasonsin 2007. He led the Red Foxes to their first ever win in theNCAA Tournament, a 67-63 upset of fourth-seeded OhioState. Marist followed it up with a 73-59 win over MiddleTennessee State to advance to the regional semifinals. TheRed Foxes embarked on winning streaks of seven and 13games as they claimed at least a share of the Metro AtlanticAthletic Conference regular-season crown for the fourthstraight season.

In 2005-06, Giorgis led Marist to a then program-best 23 tri-umphs and its second trip to the NCAA Tournament. TheRed Foxes embarked on winning streaks of seven and 12games as they claimed at least a share of the Metro AtlanticAthletic Conference regular-season crown for the thirdstraight season.

In 2004-05, Giorgis guided Marist to a 22-win season, whichincluded a program-record 16-game winning streak. Afterstarting the MAAC season 0-3, the Red Foxes closed it with15 consecutive triumphs to earn the top seed in the MAACTournament for the first time. The 2003-04 season was his-torical, as it was the first time the Red Foxes earned a berthin the NCAA tournament in what became known as a "sea-son of firsts." Additionally, Marist earned its first share of aMAAC regular-season title and compiled its first winningrecord in 11 years.

Giorgis earned a bachelor's degree in health education fromthe State University of New York at Cortland in 1977, andearned a master's in health education from Virginia TechUniversity in 1982.
