Editorial
Welcome this edition of the Kulin Update!
Hope everyone had a lovely Easter break and received very good rainfalls over the weekend. Blazing Swan is done for another year and I hope some of you took the opportunity to participate in this increasingly popular annual event right on our doorstep.
In other news this week we welcomed our new Senior Finance Officer Nick Grant learn more about Nick on page 8
Upcoming events:
ANZAC weekend April 22, 23 & 24 - get your tickets to "And Tell Mum..." a production that brings to life the stories and experiences of the men and women from Kulin who find themselves coming to terms with the outbreak of World War One. There are three shows to choose from and tickets are $10. Go to the link on the flyer in this edition to buy tickets online or come in and see Mel & I at the Kulin CRC.
After seeding I am really keen to run some Human Resources workshops facilitated by Partners in Grain, I’ve attended both their HR and their IR (Industrial Relations) courses and found them fascinating. Aimed at farm businesses but highly relatable to any small business I would encourage anyone who is employing staff (fulltime or seasonal) to come along to these workshops. Please register your interest with the Kulin CRC and if you know a date/time that might suit.
Calling for expressions of interest for the following courses and events that will be 1 – 2 hours at the Kulin CRC BYO laptop, iPad or iPhone & computers available to use at the CRC also;

Nick was born in Port Hedland and moved to Perth where he attended Willetton Senior High and then went to Curtin University where he did a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting, after which he completed post grad studies with the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Nick has worked in an Accounting Practice for 3 years, then a number of car groups including a car group in Mandurah with 140+ employees and $100 million annual turnover where he worked his way up to be in control of all the financial side of the business and accounting.
Nick also worked for Mining and Civil Australia (MACA). Whilst worked at MACA he met Rachel (nee Ledwith) a local Kulin girl and the rest is history, together they have a little girl, 9 month old Harper.
On moving to Kulin Nick says he and Rachel had became tired of the city life where everyone is always too busy and always in a rush so they decided to move out to Kulin to be close to family, let Harper grow up in the fresh air and dirt of Kulin and enjoy the country life.
Although Nick is a qualified accountant he says don’t hold that against him! He also has a huge interest in sport and there’s talk of him pulling on the footy boots for this season. Please make Nick feel welcome and say hello if you see him about the town.
Please welcome Nick Grant to our Shire, Nick is our new Senior Finance Officer so
here is a bit about him!

Kulin Child Care Centre Happenings
Contributed by Melina McBow
We hope you all had a lovely little break over Easter with your friends and family wherever you may have been, but most importantly we hope the Fluffy Easter Bunny found you all!!
All the children made special Easter baskets filled with colourful chocolates we had made to take home, along with some very cute Bunny Frames, bunny ears. They all worked very hard on them, they looked fantastic. A special thankyou needs to go out to the Lions Club for their kind donation for our egg hunt on Thursday, the children really appreciated them.
We have been very busy, as usual, we have made a few trips up to the school for Boogie Roos, we all have a fantastic time singing and dancing with Sandra. We have been exploring our 5 senses with smelling jars, squishy balloons and jelly, painting our outside equipment (and each other) with very bright colours! Discussions have begun on the weather, which worked in well with our recent rainfall and what type of clothes/activities we can do depending on the weather.
On Wednesday 23rd
the centre had 2 amazing visitors….Belinda and Ross from Revolution Learning!! WOW what a day, the children were fascinated with the musical instruments they brought with them, didgeridoo/musical bowls/rain shakers. They even got to all have a turn at making their own music, feeling the vibrations through the floor and talking about the different sounds they made. Melina and Sarah followed this up with an exciting and inspiring PD workshop that evening at the FRAC.
The staff and all the children would also like to say a couple of very special THANKYOUS, firstly to Rob and
Sarah Doust for building the awesome pallet table on the lawn, the children love it have been using it everyday, secondly to Paul Reader for the fantastic work you have been doing with our backyard, the centre is looking very neat and tidy, we all appreciate the hard work you have been putting in to get it up to scratch!!
Keep smiling……from all the staff and children at KCCC ox

Thank you so much Kulin. A truly amazing facility you have provided. Hot showers an added bonus! The
community spirt of your town can actually be felt by walking the streets, and the towns people oh so
friendly! Have been travelling for almost two years now and haven't found a more welcoming community.
Thanks again. Jan & Peter
Been travelling for 15 years and haven’t found a friendlier town all over OZ—Congratulations we will
spread the word
We would like to thank Kulin for their hospitality. Congrats on supplying a place for caravans free of charge
as we would prefer to spend our money in small businesses than site fees for caravan parks. Kind Regards
Geoff & Gill

Thank you Kulin. What a great little town & thank you for being RV friendly. We came this way to stay the
night after reading the great reviews in wiki camps. We didn't spend a lot of money as we had our evening
meal all sorted. No dockets were given but this is what we spent: Pub & 25, donation to museum $5, Coffee
at Mitre 10 $9. We took lots of photos & loved the Tin Horse Hwy. We will recommend your tow. Thank
you.
Terrific initiative—the RV 72hr parking. Had a great meal at the pub. Fascinated bu the light show on the
towers & conveyer belts (look like tall silo apartment buildings in the night sky), and enjoyed hot shower.
Thanks. Kogen
Very friendly town. Good spot to stop. Will be telling others about this town. Thankyou
What a lovely surprise to pull into your RV park & to be able to have a hot shower after a long day. We
really appreciated all your clean facilities & we will pass this on to our fellow nomads. Thank you Kulin. Cliff
& Lou
Thank you tourist centre ladies. They put a big Kulin sticker on our van that’s great. Will tell everyone about
Kulin. Thanks again been here 2 times.
Very friendly idea—Thank you so much for you welcome. Very interesting to stay near stores and
restaurants. Very quiet place with toilets. We spent a good night but we cannot stay more. Our travel is
long. Kindly thanks. Michel from France
Thanks for the 72 hour parking. Excellent area. Only thing wrong BBQ didn’t work. Thank you.
Thank you Kulin for an excellent R.V. facility. We are full self-contained 4x4 motor home. Your town is
beautiful with fantastic information for visitors.
Fantastic facilities here in Kulin—loved being here. Except for the rain all over easter. Happy you got it
though for the farmers….. LOVE!!! The Tin Horse Highway. My favourite (Get Off). But they were all great/.
Had a beautiful meal @ pub. Coffee @ Mitre 10. Fabulous free camo & hot shower. Rosie
