FROM ME TO YOU…

Dear Friends and Families of Maple West, It is hard to believe that parent teacher conferences are right around the corner. This year there will be one parent teacher conference window in December for the entire school year. There are no longer March conferences. You are always welcome to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher at any time during the year. Two Night conference opportunities are scheduled for Thursday, December 6th (full day of student classes) and Monday December 10th (10:30 dismissal). Friday, December 7th and Monday, December 10th are 10:30 student dismissal days with parent pick up slated for 10:20am. The JFK program will be here for students at dismissal time. If you are unable to attend a conference please let us know and we can work out another time to meet. I am sure the conversations about your child’s progress in the classroom socially as well as academically in relation to our high student expectations will be very productive.

A reminder for parents of Ms. Hatfield, Mrs. Lobuzzetta, Mrs. Violanti, 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders

Special Notice…Title I Status

Maple West has been designated as a Title I School. Title I status is given to school if the percentage of free and reduced lunch is greater than the district average. Our average was only slightly above the district average.

Federal regulations require that parents in schools receiving federal education aide have the right to know about the qualifications of teachers and para-professionals employed in that school. All reading teachers and para-professionals employed at Maple West are highly qualified under the federal guidelines.

If, in the future your child is taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher or para-professional who is not highly qualified, you will be personally notified.

Questions about this notice can be directed to my office at 626-8840 or at my email address: [email protected].

Important Reminders from the Attendance Office…

Your child’s absence will be recorded as an UNEXCUSED ABSENCE until our office receives a note from you explaining the reason for the

absence. Please send the note to our office on the day your child returns to school.

Electronic notes via email CANNOT be accepted by the attendance office as an excusal note for absence or tardiness. Signatures must be

non-electronic.

We also must have a signed excuse from a parent/doctor’s office for any child who is late for school.

Please call us at 626-8836 to alert us of your child’s absence or tardiness.

PTA PRESIDENTS’ MESSAGE: Hello Maple West Families,

November is here- and how thankful we are to have families who support our children and our school. We had a nice warm October and some fun activities along the way.

But first- Congratulations to our School Librarian Mr. James Worthington! Mr. Worthington won the Western Region PTA- Jane Skrzypek Educator of the Year Award!. The criteria used in consideration for this award was his commitment to school, innovative programs, willingness to teach others, PTA involvement and commitment to students. Thankfully, he embraces all of those qualities with our students each day. Mr. Worthington is Worthy of this honorable award! Please congratulate him when you see him!

A special thank you to Rebecca Greene, Nichole Klatman, Sarah Piccirillo, Jennifer Moore, Tiffany Prinzi & Tara Persons for volunteering at Lifetouch’s School picture day on October 3rd. We appreciated that you diligently checked that those faces were wiped, shirts were straightened and smiles were bright – thank you for making sure our students were ‘picture ready.’

It was a cold, but sunny, day at the UB Bulls games On October 13th. Thank you Laura Beth Malkowski for coordinating the students to see the UB Bulls game. Our ‘lil fans braved the cold and cheered on a victory of the UB Bulls, final score was 24-6.

A huge thank you to Jamie Grupp & Jessica Kelly who chaired the fall Ice Cream Social. We’d like to thank them and all the volunteers that night for helping to make it a fun- ‘sweet’ night for our students.

Many thanks to Lauren Golpl who chaired the Book Fair. Our magical theme was loved by all the students. We had a stream of students and parents all throughout the day. We are so lucky to have so much fun in one night.

Did you see a unicorn with your child’s name on it? If not- send in your PTA Membership form with $10 or $15 to be part of our successful PTA. If you have any questions please email Nicole Klatman at [email protected]

So what’s up next -you ask?

Remember each Box Top is worth $.10

Contest

• Each month please check this section to see if there is a contest going on. o Lets’ start the year off right. I know you all have been clipping over the summer and you the

most! o Send in all collected Box Tops with your child’s name and their 2018/2019 teacher’s name

included on the collection sheet or in a baggie. o The class that collected the most over the summer will win a prize!

Ways to Earn

• Look for the pink Box Top on participating products. • Ask friends and family to clip and save for you. • Watch for bonus certificates that are sometimes on products and printed on receipts. • Download the free Box Top App and earn bonus money by buying products and scanning your receipt. • Log onto www.boxtops4education.com or follow Box Top for Education on Facebook to watch for

About the Williamsville Music Boosters We are fortunate to have an outstanding music program in the Williamsville School District. The District has been recognized eight times as being one of the top music education programs in the country.
