Hopefully it will be 60 degrees in January but I am thinking we all need to be prepared for the minus 20. School closing due to weath- er is never an easy decision. The rationale of closing for families, teachers, and sup- port staff is always based upon safety. Determination as to canceling school begins at approximately 4:00 AM as Mr. Stafford, Director of Ser- vices, and I begin assessing road conditions by driving through the district as well as monitoring weather radar. New Franklin City safety forces are consulted as well as neighboring school dis- tricts, due to busses traveling outside of the district, before a final decision is made. Student safety is always our utmost concern. As Superintendent, I con- sider the recommendations made by all of the above before making the final deci- sion. I intend to make the final determination, when possible, between 5:15 and 5:45 AM. The decision in contacting the community and staff will be made as close to 6:00 AM as possible. At the point of a decision information will be posted on the district website; www.panthercountry.org, broadcast by local television/ radio stations and through our all-call telephone message alert system to all families and staff. The all-call, if school is cancelled, will go out as soon as a final determination is made. In order to address possible early morning safety issues that may not require a full day cancellation due to items such as limited power outage or additional time needed to clear roads of ice, the Man- chester District may employ a two-hour delay. Because of possible inconvenience to families with scheduling childcare, this two-hour delay will only be used on extremely rare situations. The school will be closed the entire day if we believe the conditions would not improve or remain unsafe after two hours. In the event of a delayed start of school, bus and school schedules will be delayed by two hours. When there is a delay out-of-district transpor- tation will also be on a two- hour delay. The school day will end at normal time if there is a delay. The school delay times will be as follows: Nolley Elementary School 10:25 AM Manchester Middle School 9:40 AM Manchester High School 9:45 AM Portage Lakes Career Cen- ter 9:47 AM It is important that families have a plan in place in the event of a school cancellation, delay, or an emergency clos- ing after children have arrived at school. Dominic Allen, Niko Bealer and Carolee Crabtree show Sara Shookman, Manchester gradu- ate, Journalist and News Anchor at WKYC Cleveland, around the school. The children explained how they incorporate the seven habits into their lives.

Nolley Elementary cel-ebrated their successful implementation of “The Leader in Me” on Thursday, November 19th, with their “Leader in Me” Day. Over 100 educators from all over

Congratulations to 2015 winners of the Americanism and Government Test given by the American Legion. Award winners were: Joe Headley, Michael Hercules, Nicole Morri-son, Megan McCarthy, Kacy Hirschfelt, and Bryce Chekan. They are shown above with American Legion Representative, Phyllis Fitzgerald.

Congratulations to Johnny Durgala and Paige Mobley on being selected the Novem-ber Seniors of the Month. Johnny is President of National Honor Society and captain of the football team. Johnny also participates in Stu-dent Council, Drama Club, Chess Club, BBQ Club, WSFM, Spanish Club, Chemistry Club, Singers, and Senior Youth Group at First Bap-tist Church in Jackson.

Paige is Vice President of National Honor Society, President of Key Club, Vice President of Chemistry Club, and Senior Class Vice President. Paige is also a member of French Club and Art Club.

A breakfast was held on November 11th, honoring 103 students for having perfect atten-dance for the first quarter.

High school media teacher, Mrs. Taylor and Nolley 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Grandon, teamed up to work on a potion project. The elementary students invented a potion and wrote a commercial to advertise their project. The high school students then helped the students make their commercial a reality. Pictured are high school students Isabella Summers and Ashley Frasier helping elementary students Carter Dinger, Brady Lucey, Jaden McClain and Avery Wayman. Getting assistance from high school students, Louis Beck and Dane Paris, are Tyler Sherman, Tyler Pappas, and Jackson Nall.

MHS hosted their annual Senior Citizens Breakfast on October 29th with 111 senior citizens attending. The guests were served a warm breakfast by the students. Break-fast was followed by a preview of the fall play, “One Wife Too Many.”

Congratulations to Tim Clark and Zoey Kohler on being selected the October Seniors of the Month. Tim is a member of National Honor Society and the Varsity Soccer Team. Zoey is a member of National Honor Society, Key Club, Spanish Club, and Chemistry Club.

On November 12th, 29 new members were inducted into the MHS National Honor Soci-ety. Todd Lindeman, President of the Alumni Association, was the main speaker. His speech touched upon the importance of the four pillars of NHS (scholarship, character, leader-ship, and service) for all students. National Honor Society officers conducted the induction ceremony. The 2015-16 NHS officers are: John Durgala, President; Paige Mobley, Vice President; Megan McCarthy, Treasurer; and Trevor Ulman, Secretary.

The Manchester High School Senior Parents are excited to host Breakfast with Santa!! The annual Christmas favorite is back for a cheerful morning of celebration and Breakfast with Santa! Nolley honored over 80 veterans on Veterans Day this year! Nolley students could invite a veteran to be recognized at the assembly. Students sang songs, read poems, did a cadence, and watched a slide show of pictures of the attending veterans. Donuts and punch were served after the assembly to the guests.
