  • Make your own adapter: I have been asked about an OBD adapter for my ADS-OBD interface. Here is a relatively cheap way to make your own adapter. Ingredients: 1: 20 pin diagnostics socket from the junkyard 2: OBD connector, plenty to be found on EBay cheap 3:Some protection for the wiring. I used some 'snake skin' type covering from an old computer power supply.

  • Remove the unnecessary wiring from the diagnostics socket. Slide the 'Snake skin' over the wires. If you want to push out the pins, with or without the BMW tool, please do not forget to UNLOCK the pins first. The 20 pin socket has a secondary lock at the back of the socket that needs to be rotated a few degrees before the pins can be removed.

  • Solder to the OBD plug. Presto, you have made your own ADS female to OBD male adapter (as opposed to the OBD-female to ADS-male adapter one can buy on eBay etc.).

    pin-out: ADS ---OBD 7 ---- Not Connected on OBD 14 ---- 16 15 ---- 15 16 ---- 1 17 ---- 8 19 --- 4+5 20 --- 7
