It was a year of growth – we added two new staff members, rounding out our wish granting and volunteer teams.

It was a year of recognition – Make-A-Wish Arizona wish kids were featured in

more than 50 televised news segments and more than 200 printed articles statewide. In addition, we were honored with six awards from Make-A-Wish America for our commitment to our wish kids and to our donors.

It was a year of generosity – our donors and supporters exceeded their giving of previous years with new events, new campaigns and new giving strategies.

Most of all, it was a year of impact. We were able to grant 330 wishes in one fiscal year, the most ever granted by our Make-A-Wish Arizona chapter, thanks to our generous supporters.

Now, in the 2015 Fiscal Year, Make-A-Wish Arizona honors its past and looks forward to the future. We look forward to our goal of reaching 350 wish kids this year. We look forward to a year of new, imaginative wishes, including our 5,000th wish ever.

We also look forward to a new home as we move to The Parsons Wish House, a new wish house

in South Scottsdale gifted to our chapter by The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation. So many supportive additional donors have helped with renovations and restorations to make it exactly what we need.

This move is happening during a special year – our 35th year of granting wishes in Arizona. The new wish house has allowed us to review all we have accomplished in the past 35 years, and to look forward to many, many more years of consistent growth and success in making wishes come true.

We are very proud of our 2014 and we are very excited for our 2015. Why? Because we know that no matter where we are, no matter what we do, our mission stays the same: We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

And that makes us proud to be Make-A-Wish Arizona.

2014 Annual Report – 2

You have heard it before, I know, but we are very proud to report that Fiscal Year 2014 was a record breaking year.

Board Chair, Make-A-Wish® Arizona

I wish

to be...

Wow, what a year for wish kids in Arizona! As a board member for the past six years, I have watched the progress this chapter has made as they work toward their vision of granting the wish of every eligible wish child in Arizona. Those years have made me both proud of the work that has been accomplished and excited for the future!

The achievements of this past 2014 Fiscal Year are laudable. Make-A-Wish Arizona has consistently raised the bar for wishes, helping to realize each child’s one true wish while also growing the number of wishes we grant by 5 percent in one year.

They have crafted amazing events with the Wish Ball and Walk for Wishes. These events more than doubled the dollars they bring to the chapter for future wishes. In addition, they personify the mission of the chapter while also offering attendees a very good time.

And, to support all this growth, they have added staff and volunteers. Together, they have teamed up to create the best possible outcome for their mission of providing hope, strength and joy to kids and families who need it.

Our board is very proud to be a part of this renaissance era of the founding chapter of Make-A-Wish. We are inspired daily by not only the wish kids, but by all those who pitch in throughout our state and beyond to make sure that we can grant wishes.

As always, we are thankful for the generosity of our community businesses, organization and groups. It is your commitment and kindness that enable Make-A-Wish Arizona to work toward its vision of granting the wish of every eligible child in Arizona.

Thank you for your support of our vision. Thank you for being a part of Make-A-Wish Arizona.

Officially, Liam was 7-years-oldwhen he was diagnosed with leukemia, but his story began months earlier when pain gripped his body, forcing him to stop walking.

There was only one thing Liam ever wanted in his life, and that was to be a soldier. The leukemia that forced him into a wheel chair would rob him of that dream. When Liam was able to walk again, he was so fragile he broke a bone, on average, once every three months. Constantly in pain, slowed down by casts and walkers and crutches, Liam would escape into his dream of being a soldier by playing with little plastic army men every chance he could. It was no surprise then, when asked what he would wish for, Liam said he wished to be with real army men and hang out, play video games.

Make-A-Wish Arizona and the Arizona National Guard did for Liam what no one else ever could: they made his wish come

true. Liam stepped out of the limo and became a real soldier, complete with uniforms and rank, badges and training. He spent the day hanging out with his fellow soldiers. They showed him respect and kindness, even taking patches they had earned off of their own uniforms to give to him.

Liam went on missions, trained in a flight simulator and even played video games. Each stop along the way was spectacular and over the top. It was as if an entire career in the military was condensed into one day. Liam was both spellbound and mesmerized. On his wish day, he forgot about his treatments and his broken bones. He was a real soldier and nothing could stop him.

It’s been almost a year since his wish day, but Liam still will don his uniform, even wearing it for Halloween. His one wish day that Make-A-Wish Arizona and the Arizona National Guard organized for Liam has lasted

him much longer. He’s carried that experience with him, giving him strength for another year of treatment. No longer does Liam feel cheated out of a dream he could not realize. Instead, he is grateful he could both experience being in the service and inspired to find out whatever else his future holds.

Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Arizona wish granters, volunteers, organizations and donors who make days like this day, Liam’s wish day, possible.

Make-A-Wish® Arizona Donors

The impact of a gift goes far beyond the lives of our wish kids and their families. Your gift not only enriches the life of a child, but in granting the gift, you enrich your own life as well.

Our thanks go out to all the individuals and organizations that generously help fund Arizona wishes, as well as to the following individuals and organizations for their donations of goods and services between September 2013 and August 2014.

Make-A-Wish Arizona makes every effort to ensure the accuracy of its donor lists. We apologize for any inadvertent omissions or inaccuracies. Please notify us with corrections at 602.395.9474.
