Special thanks to the following donors for giving to the annual fund, and helping to fund the special needs for our students:

“Why does the school ask for money, don’t we already pay tuition?” That’s a very good question! The simple answer is illustrated in the pie charts. Currently our tuition covers 84%

of our costs, while gifts and fundraising covers 12% of costs that are used for special projects such as educa-

tional equipment, technology facility improvement, and special events. Also athletics expenses are $16,155

higher than sports income, which donations help to fund.

We still have big gaps to fill before this year closes, and every gift makes a difference. The overall 24% of reve-

nue provided by gifts and fundraising primarily has been funded through generous donors, individual staff

members, parents, grandparents and alumni who give through special opportunities such as our year end An-

nual Fund giving opportunity.

Wishing your family a very blessed Christmas,

Karen Winter Karen Winter

This year’s Christmas program was great as usual! Everyone had a wonderful evening and enjoyed the children’s program. It got off to a busy start as the children were gathering before the program but the end result truly was magical!

The children did such a good job memorizing the song lyrics and lines for the program. They worked so hard each day during practices and it really showed in their performance. Thank you to all the parents for bringing your children to the evening program this year and joining us to celebrate the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Also, we send our thanks to all the help from par-ents before the program began. We greatly appreciate you all!

For the second half of November we continued our lesson on the 5 food groups. We had Hannah Ewing, the AG

teacher at Turlock Christian High school, along with 2 helpers, Natalie and Nicole bring a calf and cow to the north campus. Also, Mark Ahlem, who is a TCHS alum, and Frank Dinis both from Hilmar Jerseys brought 2 calves to the east campus for the children to see how they start out. The children learned the daily routines of the cows, what they ate and when they were milked. They had the opportunity to feed the calves bottles and watch the cow eat hay. The children loved being able pet the calves and cow. They were able to get

up close to them and see that the milk comes from the utter. They also learned that it takes a little less than 3 hours to milk 1,000 cows on a dairy! The children also had the privilege of seeing a goat! Ryan from the Cubbies class brought his goat to share with his friends because goats produce milk too!

For Dairy week we also made pudding with milk in

each classroom! This was a great opportunity for

children to learn about cooking utensils like whisk,

mixing bowl, serving spoon and measuring cup. Some

new terms they learned were set and beat. The chil-

dren had to wait for the pudding to set and they

discovered what it truly meant when they saw how it was

thick after 5 minutes of waiting! Exciting! The children were

a part of the whole process from opening the packed and seeing how it was

powdery, to reading the directions and beginning making it. The children noticed

how it looked white and not at all like pudding at first. Once they poured in

the milk, the mixture turned a darker color! Cool! Each child had a turn to stir,

or "beat", the mixture. Then it was time to wait. Of course, eating it was also

fun. Cooking in the classroom, even in the simplest ways, is just a great way to do hands

on teaching.
