Good afternoon, and welcome to WaltonLane for today’s Southern CombinationFootball League Division 2 fixture againstCowfold. We extend a warm welcome to the visitingplayers, officials and supporters, and totoday’s match referee, Chris Porter, fromFerring. We would also like to welcome our new lead/kit sponsor, Roger Weymouth, fromAutomatic Gate Systems and reverse-shirtsponsor, Rhys Hughes, of MulberryContractors, who we look forward to sharinga photo opportunity prior to kick-off as partof our new kit launch.A further welcome this afternoon to SussexCounty FA representatives, Peter Down andPaul Beard, who will be presentinggroundsman and player/ manager, AndyProbee with two awards – the Sussex FAGroundsman of the Year (Step 7 Clubs), whichhe has now claimed three years running – atremendous effort, but I know one in whichAndy is always quick to praise his supporting‘team’ of Stuart Rittman at FisherlaneNurseries, Rhys at Mulberry, and NeilRedman. Supplemented with grant-fundedsummer pitch renovation, equipment such asour sit-on mower and new spray-on linemarker – should all help with ensuring wehave a surface we can continue to be proudof, and one in which the lads enjoy playingon.Peter and Paul will present Andy andassistant manager, Neil Redman with theSCFL ‘Team of the Month’ for August andSeptember, following our flying start to thecampaign. It is perhaps only fitting that Andygraces today’s programme cover! We appreciate Kate Shemilt from theChichester Observer and Gordon Webbfortheir assistance with the photos today.
Gordon is also looking after the bar thisafternoon in the absence of Banger – pleasekeep him busy with your hospitality!!Additional ‘thank yous’ to Ricky at BroadwaterSports for doing a fantastic job on our newJoma strip and having the patience of a saintin juggling all our requests! The u16’s new‘Portsmouth Aviation’ sponsored Niketracksuits and rain jackets have also beensupplied and are looking really smart.I must also say thanks to our Vice Chairman,John Redman, for going back-and-forth toWorthing in between family visits to collectvarious bits of kit over the last few months –and this very programme from the printers,Pro Copy prior to every ‘home’ game – we arevery fortunate to have such ‘clubmen’.We have reverted back to white shorts whichhas been a traditional feature of our kitpreviously – see p13 ‘Down Memory Lane’(ok, the picture is in black and white, but youget the idea!!), which alongside special badgeembroidery, acknowledges our 115th yearsince formation in 1901.The ‘change’ strip is a move away from ‘allblue’, simply because we play so many teamsin blue in our division! Instead we’ve gone fora classic white/ red/ white – again previousclub colours.Additional perimeter advertiser boards havebeen produced for our sponsors, reallymaking the ground look the part against thenew barrier; alongside new canopy roofgraphics outside the clubhouse – thank you toCathedral Signs for their help.Back to the on-field matters, and Cowfoldcome here on the back of a decent run ofform that has seen them climb the Division 2table, with three wins from the last five. Onlya narrow defeat against Sidlesham by the oddgoal in five blotting their copybook. They alsotook a point from newcomers, Jarvis Brook –both sides we are yet to face, with the festivederby against Sids awaiting on Boxing Day.That said, a lot of football to be playedbetween now and then and we know we’re infor a tough game against Paul Curtis’ sidetoday, who are always organised with the likesof evergreen striker, Nigel Smith, who we’ll dowell to keep quiet.Enjoy the game and thank you for yoursupport!

Graeme Dowden and MarcoGiambelardini both struck twice asBosham extended their lead at the topof the SCFL Division Two to seven pointswith a dominant victory over an Alfoldside struggling for confidence. With only three minutes on the clockthe reds burst into the lead throughLouis Bell.Bell latched onto a loose ball and fired afirst time thunderbolt that went like arocket into the top corner with keeper,Ryan Matthews powerless to preventthe goal. Both Bell and Bradley Miles were unableto add to the early advantage, frustratingly misfiring when well placed. The royal blues strived to find a wayback into the match and the pace of KarlBerryman certainly had Bosham on theirtoes but keeper, Kieran Magee, hadlittle to do as the excellent defence -lead powerfully by Callum Fewell - dealteasily with any attempts to get in ongoal. The Robins did double their lead as half-time approached. This time Dowdenwas in the right place to slam the ballhome at the far post, finishing after alovely turn and cross from Miles thatwrong footed the defence and leftDowden with the simplest of tasks totake the spoils.Bosham went into the break with tails
up but certainly intending to look formore upon the re-start.It didn’t take long for plans to come tofruition as with only five minutes havingelapsed Giambelardini scored withanother typically flamboyant strike. The reds striker received the ball justoutside the area and chipping the ballup he then turned on a sixpence andvolleyed the ball home passed a stunnedMatthews into the back of the net.Next Jake Lafferty was upended in thebox and Dowden calmly put away theresulting penalty for his second andBosham’s fourth on the match.Giambelardini then netted his second ofthe afternoon to make it three goals forthe reds in a seven minute blitz to endthe match as a contest with an assuredfinish to another sweeping move.Alfold still continued to plug away andshowed great willingness to try and findsomething from a game that was fastgetting away from them but, even whenAndy Sullivan managed to get passedMagee his effort to an empty net wascleared off the line by Oliver Gilbert andMagee then saved from Berryman fromthat clearance to further frustrate thehosts. For all Alfold’s efforts, Boshamcontinued to press and only anoutstanding save from Matthews - lateon from a terrific strike from MattDocherty - prevented further damagebut for Bosham the result was in thebag. With results elsewhere going their way,Bosham extended their lead at the top, with in-form Cowfold next up for AndyProbee’s side.Bosham: Magee, Probee, Bulbeck, Gilbert,Fewell, Docherty, Miles, Giambelardini,Dowden, Bell, Lafferty. Subs: Redman,Ruston.
