MAHANOY AREA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION 2016

As the school year comes to a close, many students are anticipating the glory that is summer. Although the end of the school year may be a hectic time full of stressing over finals and for the seniors, graduation, it’s always comfort-ing to know that care-free living is just around the cor-ner. The summer time is a great opportunity for students to get away from the school environment and relax their minds and focus on enjoying the sweltering heat! Some students will travel to their favorite beaches, go to amuse-ment parks, go on a camping trip, or just hang around with friends. No matter what the person is doing, it’s surely more exciting than sitting in a classroom! There are so many intriguing activities the summer can hold, but the most important part is what you make of it yourself. This summer will only be as exciting as you make it. Even though summer only lasts for three months, if you make the most of it, the memories will last forever. So when school has finally ended at the end of May, and we say goodbye to our friends who are going to college, we must prepare ourselves for the coming year. Some of us will be visiting colleges ourselves, the reality of growing up hitting hard. Whether you happen to be spending your summer days basking in the rays of sunshine on a sandy beach, the sound of seagulls above, or camping under the twilight sky, crickets chirping in the woods nearby, ap-preciate every second of it, because you’ll never get this summer back, so make it one to remember!

MAHANOY AREA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION 2016

Mahanoy Area Prom and Graduation

On May 6, 2016, the class of 2016 had their prom festivi-ties. This year’s theme was a masquerade ball. Eighty-nine individuals and fifteen chaperones attended the prom at Mountain Valley. The day’s festivities started with the annual promenade. This year due to the inclement weather it was held in the high school gym. An archway for the couples to go through was built by maintenance. Mrs. Pepe and Mr. Shirvinski decorated the archway with black and white balloons and two masquerade masks. A pathway for the couples to walk down was created. Mr. Shirvinski and Mrs. Brylewski introduced each couple. After promenade, the couples proceeded to Mountain Val-ley Golf Course Clubhouse. Appetizers were served at 4:30 with a plated dinner of roasted ham and turkey with mashed potatoes and green beans was served. A chocolate fountain was provided by Mountain Valley as a gift to the class of 2016. Afterwards, music was provided by DJ TJ Fitzpatrick. Gianni Versace and Desiree Malacusky were crowned King and Queen. The guest were then provided with a second dinner which was a hot buffet of the class’s favorite foods (mac and cheese, chicken fingers and bone-less buffalo wings). The night ended with the playing of the class’s song “Back Home” By Andy Grammer. All who attended enjoyed themselves. The scheduled firework dis-play which was provided for by student fundraising and a donation from the family of Metro and Lois Datchko in the name of their grandchildren and great-children who were/are current MAHS students, had to be postponed due to weather. As a gift to the community for all of their efforts towards the class of 2016, the firework display will now be seen after graduation pending board approval. Mr. Shirvinski would like to thank all of the chaperones and maintenance for all of their help in making the prom and promenade a success. The class of 2016 will have their baccalaureate on May 29th at 7:00 pm at the Blessed Te-resa of Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City. All are asked to attend. The class will graduate on June 3, 2016.
