Students Attend State Conference

Six students attended the Future Business Lead-ers of America State Leadership Conference on April 14-15 in Hershey. The students were Daryl Andreas, Rylee Kane, Lily Leahy, Mark Mahmod, Marcus Schmerfeld and Anne Stramara. Daryl competed in the Cybersecurity category; Lily, Mark & Marcus competed in the Personal Finance category; Rylee and Anne served as members at-large. Cybersecurity and Personal Finance are both objective tests taken on a computer. Mark Mahmod finished 8th in Personal Finance and was presented a plaque at the Awards Cer-emony on Tuesday evening. The top four places move on to National Competition. In addition to the testing, students attended workshops and had the opportunity to observe other competi-tive performance events. There were over 4,700 people at the SLC. This is Mahanoy Area’s first year in FBLA and we are very fortunate to have four students qualify for state competition and to have someone finish in the top ten at states is a great accomplishment.

The Third Annual Community Financial Fair was held on April 22 in the high school gymnasium. Twenty-four vendors participated from banking, education, insurance, investment services and many more. The fair was well attended and FBLA students sponsored a concession stand. Door prizes were awarded from a random drawing. Door prizes and concession stand items were all donated. The Financial Fair is free to the public and the goal is to educate attendees about the many services available to them throughout the county and our Mahanoy City community.

Best wishes to Kenny Boyle. I will miss seeing you here at Mahanoy - Good Luck at Penn State!

MAHANOY AREA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION 2015

As the school year comes to a close, many stu-dents are anticipating the glory that is summer. Although the end of the school year may be a hectic time full of stressing over finals and for the seniors, graduation, it’s always comforting to know that care-free living is just around the corner. The summer time is a great opportunity for students to get away from the school envi-ronment and relax their minds and focus on en-joying the sweltering heat! Some students will travel to their favorite beaches, go to amusement parks, go on a camping trip, or just hang around with friends. No matter what the person is doing, it’s surely more exciting than sitting in a class-room! There are so many intriguing activities the summer can hold, but the most important part is what you make of it yourself. This summer will only be as exciting as you make it. Even though summer only lasts for three months, if you make the most of it, the memories will last forever. So when school has finally ended at the end of May, and we say goodbye to our friends who are go-ing to college, we must prepare ourselves for the coming year. Some of us will be visiting colleges ourselves, the reality of growing up hitting hard. Whether you happen to be spending your sum-mer days basking in the rays of sunshine on a sandy beach, the sound of seagulls above, or camping under the twilight sky, crickets chirping in the woods nearby, appreciate every second of it, because you’ll never get this summer back, so make it one to remember!

Summer Fun

Advice to seniors...Put in the effort to stay in touch with your friends from high school, it’s

very easy to grow apart. Also remember to work hard and manage your time in college, military or the work force. It will help you immensely! I will miss the Class of 2015’s involvement in

sports, clubs and their community. They truly have “Bear pride”.

Special wishes go out to… Maddi J., Lily, Jessie, Tamara, Tori, Kate, Devon, Tiffany and Emily

- the band and chorus seniors. Thank you for be-ing such wonderful leaders and for your dedica-

tion to the arts. We will miss you. - Mrs. Kline

My advice to underclassmen is......to focus and get your work done. - Jamie Rago...take your SAT’s, do your research, and have a college/major in mind. Take as many classes related to your future plans as you can. Have fun and be nice to everyone. - Mark Mahmod...don’t let the turkeys hold you down. Fly like an eagle, not like a turkey. - Bailey Forte...cherish every moment because these next cou-ple years will fly by....do not rush graduation. It comes a whole lot faster than you think. Enjoy the little things in life and make them count. Adulthood comes a lot faster than anticipated. - Rori Sullivan...be youself and don’t let anyone or anything change you because in the end you are the only one who loses. Be as awesome as you are every-day. - Tiffany Spalti...to find friends that will stick by your side and make as many memories as possible; procras-tination is a talent, do not let teachers, parents, coaches tell you otherwise. - Noel Kaufman...to have fun and enjoy these years but don’t for-get to study and be involved in things. Get good grades. - Gia Hannon...just keep rolling along. - Gabe Kostingo...work hard or else you’ll regret it. - Chris Haller...good luck in the rest of your high school ca-reer. - Ashley Eickhoff...good lucj in the rest of your high school career. - Abigail Foose...to work hard for your future. - Travis Card

...for Mr. Nester’s class - keep your binders orga-nized and don’t throw away any papers. - Sandra Supplee...take AP English. It is life changing. Take all of the Nester classes. - Tori Sallaway...don’t take life too seriously. School is impor-tant, but your mental health is worth more than an A. Remember this is the time when you’re supposed to have fun. Don’t take it for granted. - Anne Stramara...to take AP English. It’s the best class ever. - Emily Matz...to not take too many AP classes. You will lose your mind. - Darryl Andreas...don’t slack off your senior year. It’s not going to help you. It’s only going to hurt you. You will stress yourself out if you do. - Kate Chapman...make sure to listen to your teachers. You may not think that they’re right, but they are. - Tamara Tunstall...make every second of high school count be-cause time flies. - Courtney Levy...stay organized and stay on top of things. - Mad-die Jeffries...do not take anything for granted, even the little things. - Kiera Burke...enjoy every minute of high school because it goes by fast. - Katie Babinsky...enjoy high school and make the most of it. Creating Awareness

Earth Day is a day meant to increase awareness and appreciation for the earth’s environment. Held on April 22, Earth Day is currently celebrated in more than 175 countries annually.Earth Day was founded in 1970 by Gaylord Nelson, a senator from Wisconsin. Nelson got the idea of Earth Day after he saw the effects of a large oil spill in 1969 in Santa Barbara, California. Nelson thought the world would be a healthier place to live if more people knew about protecting the earth. On April 22, 1970, 20 million Americans participated in the first Earth Day. These people protested things that would harm the earth such as air and water pol-lution.Today, Earth Day is celebrated in many ways. People plant trees or pick up trash. Celebrating Earth Day is doing anything that benefits the environment. To cel-ebrate Earth Day, you can recycle or reuse objects. You can also ride your bike places instead of driv-ing.
