“And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad],

(Surah 21, Verse 107)

The Chosen One

Asalaam Alaikum!

Welcome to myDeen Magazine where you will

learn about Islam in a FUN and COOL way!

myDeen means, “My Religion” so this magazine

is all about YOU and ISLAM .

READY, SET, GOOOO

Pledge of the monthI pledge that whenever I read or hear

the name of Prophet Muhammad &, I will say afterwards:

Salla Allahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam Or

Peace and blessings be upon him

We do this because Allah says in the Quran:

Surely, Allah and the angels send blessing

upon Prophet Muhammad, O you who believe, send your blessings

upon him and salute him with all respect.

[Surah 33: Verse 56]

2

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad & was the last prophet in Islam at age forty. He was sent for all the people of the world. Muhammad & was born more than 1400 years ago in Arabia. His father’s name was Abdullah and his mother’s name was Aminah.

Prophet Muhammad & is our role model and until today we remember him and follow his example. He always spoke the truth and was called “Al-Amin”, because people trusted him. Muhammad & was also hardworking and worked for a lady named Khadijah. She was so happy with his work and attitude, and eventually they got married.

Muhammad & grew up in a town called Makkah, which is where the Kaabah is now. He used to go to cave Hira to think. One night, during the month of Ramadhan, an angel Jibril came to him and brought him some words from the Quran. The first word that was told to the prophet was “IQRA” which means “READ”

3

Situation in Makkah

Makkah was known to be bad and had many mean people at that time. The prophet & was told to go back and teach the people about Islam so they can become good people. He told the people about the words of Allah . In the beginning only a few people listened and became Muslim, while many people did not believe the prophet &.

The message of Islam gave power to the poor and women and the mean people at that time did not like that. They started to beat the people who became Muslim and some people were planning to kill the prophet &. Muhammad & had no choice but to leave and go to Medina.

Life in Medina

The prophet & travelled to Medina where he was loved by everyone. In Medina, he & was able to teach Islam freely. Many people during that time started to become Muslim and the mosque of the prophet & was built there for everyone to go and worship in. (Continued on next page)

4

People from Makkah started hearing about the growing number of Muslims in Madinah and they did not like this at all. They started to plan to hurt the prophet & and decided to bring an army to fight him. After many battles, the mean people of Makkah were always defeated by the Muslims. After many years in Medina, the prophet & decided to go back to Makkah.

Back to Makkah

The prophet & came back to Makkah near the end of his life. The people were amazed that when he came back he was kind and forgave all the mean people. He did no punish anybody and because of that, more people started becoming Muslim.

The prophet & lived until the age of sixty three years old and was a prophet for twenty three years. Muhammad & was the last prophet sent by Allah and there will be no other prophets after him.

Ar-RahmanThe Most Merciful

to everyone

Ar-RaheemThe Especially Merciful

to Believers

ROOT WORD : RA-H-MA (MERCY)

Rahma means mercy, which is described in the dictionary as compassion, kindness and gentleness. When someone is kind to others, he/she is showing rahma.

Allah is the One who has the most rahma! There is no one else more merciful than Allah .

SO WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO NAMES?

Ar-Rahman means the Most Merciful to all of His creation including non-believers.

Ar-Raheem meens to show special mercy only for the believer.

Let’s remember their meanings whenever we recite the Quran or pray!

Q&AQuestions:• Are men (boys) allowed to do house work?• What does Islam Say?• Did our beloved Prophet Muhammad & do household chores?

Answer: Helping in housework is considered one of the noble manners of our Prophet &. Some people might think that all the work at home should be done by our mothers or sisters, but this is not what Islam teaches us.

Imam Ahmed reported that Aisha, the Prophet’s wife, said:" I was asked about what the prophet used to do in his house? I replied:" He was an ordinary man, he used to sew his garment, milk his goat, and serve himself". Serving himself means that he did not ask for little tasks to be completed, but instead did them himself.

Be like the Prophet & and help around the house whenever you can.

Asalaam Alaikum Dear Parents,

Thank you for subscribing to the first ever

edition of myDeen Magazine. We are very

grateful to have you and your family on board.

We will be doing our very best to continue

developing and improving our magazines as

time passes.

This magazine/workbook will contain

informative, yet enjoyable lessons for Muslim

children with the aim of nurturing their

inquiring minds. Using stories, games, puzzles,

art work, activities and various contests,

myDeen magazine hopes to establish itself

as an interactive way to enhance learning at

home.

Our slogan - engage, inspire, grow - is a

reflection of how we prepare activities for YOU to engage and hopefully inspire your child to

grow their Islamic knowledge. The best feature

of the magazine is the letter to the parent

whereby we give tips and advice as to how you

can help your child through the magazine.

The next edition of the magazine will be sent at

the end of May 2016, as my husband and I are

expecting our second child in April. After this,

a magazine will be sent every month for you

and your child to enjoy. We appreciate your

patience and understanding with us.

Key Points for Parents:Page 8: We have asked the children to make

loonie pancakes which are basically smaller

pancakes. They need to make them from

scratch thus your help will be appreciated.

Page 10/11: Your child is now at the age where they need to be praying regularly.

The best thing is to have them pray with you

whenever you are praying. Every time they

finish a prayer, please have them mark the time that the prayed. You can go through the Salah journal with them every week and set

goals for improvements.

Sunnah Style: Try to hang the poster insert

around the area where shoes are put on or

where it will be seen daily. A habit takes about

3 weeks to establish, so our goal is to have

them adapt a new habit/sunnah each month.

Page 17: Your child will need help creating a charity bank for this month. It is up to

you how and when you choose to give them

money to collect in it. The goal is to teach

them to donate the money they collect to an

organization or person in need at the end of

each month, thus practicing a Sunnah of the

Prophet &.

Feedback is very important to us, from

parents and your child. Please give us any

constructive criticism, positive or negative,
