Ancient Egyptians discovered healing abilities of

scented oils, using cosmetics to become closer to the

gods.

Advancements in industry, chemistry and medicine in

18th and 19th century brought significant changes in

cosmetics. the cosmetics industry began booming

during the 1910's with the advent of the industrial

revolution.

Women made their own mascara by adding hot beads of

wax to the tips of their eyelashes. Some would use

petroleum jelly as an alternative, with the first

manufacturer being T.L. Williams of Maybelline.

With the advent of new trends came the formulation

of new chemical components that simultaneously

enhanced product viability and created the conditions

for widespread environmental destruction.

Why WEar Make up?

While focus group data participants

claim that advertising does not affect

their shopping behavior, the influences

of effective advertisement can be seen

from gathered consumer reporting. The

cosmetic industry is a 30 billion dollar

industry with an annual growth rate

of 20%.

As the media and technology

progress, the importance of

self-image and the standards

of women’s beauty are sociologically

enforced in US society through mass

media.

According to research, conventionally

attractive people are recorded

to earn more and REcieve more

promotions than average.

So what’s the Problem?
