I aspire to state that Machilipatnam town was a special grade municipality with a population of

1,75,495 that spread around an area of 26.67 sq.km. It is one of the oldest towns on the Eastern

coast of the country even in the early Historic period. The Britishers established one of their

earliest factories here.

E – Newsletter furnishes the detail overview of activities taken up by the municipality in the

month of June, 2016. Special initiatives taken up in this month include field visit of GIIC team

regarding preparation Master Plan, imitation jewellery park development, laying of central

divider lighting and provision of drinking water pipelines and first year launch of AMRUT

Scheme.

Guizhou International Investment Corporation (GIIC) experts completed field study

of the proposed Machilipatnam Industrial Corridor and key locations within the

Machilipatnam Area Development Authority (MADA).

GIIC, a consortium of three Chinese manufacturing firms, has evinced interest in

preparing a master plan for MADA. The team of experts led by GIIC Vice-President

Chen Zin studied various aspects of the area, with focus on developing engineering,

infrastructure and transportation facilities within the MADA. The experts in power

and urban planning and designing studied weather conditions along the coastline,

marine trade and operations during the period of the British and transportation

connectivity to the nearest cities— Amaravati and Vijayawada.

Bandar Revenue Divisional Officer P. Saibabu and officials associated with the

proposed Machilipatnam deep sea port explained to the experts the State

government’s proposals such as developing township and land to be spared for

various other facilities. The availability of government land, nature of land on which

industrial activities would be allowed and mode of investment to be encouraged for

the interested Indian and foreign companies were discussed.

Of late, the revenue authorities have also shared key data and maps pertaining to the

MADA with the Chinese firm. On marine trade operations, the GIIC representatives

documented expected cargo handling, port traffic, prospects for import and exports

at the proposed deep sea port. The experts also visited areas such as Tapasipudi,

Karagraharam and Bandarkota where once the old port existed. The GIIC team

shared their experience in engineering and IT services and their role in shaping

Guizhou into a world-class city within a decade.

The GIIC will also focus on ensuring better access to drinking water, apart from

better road and other infrastructure facilities within the township. The GIIC had also

completed a study related to geographical area, cyclone and other data pertaining to

natural calamities and marine trade operations on the Machilipatnam coast during

the post-colonial period.

The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) will take up a

study to identify the infrastructure required for development of Machilipatnam

imitation jewellery park.

Responding to the appeals made by the representatives of the production units,

APIIC Chairman P. Krishnaiah has promised that a special team, representing the

APIIC, will soon list the facilities required to be created in the industrial area here.

“Our team will identify the facilities required for the imitation jewellery industry .We

will focus on creating additional road lanes, drainage system and other

infrastructure facilities at the imitation jewellery park on a priority basis,” Mr.

Krishnaiah has said.

The imitation jewellery manufacturers have appealed to the APIIC Chairman to

provide water facility apart from laying pipeline system for treating the waste water.

The APIIC has already paid Rs. 87 lakh to the Machilipatnam municipality to

provide water facility to the park and the project is yet to be materialised.

Meanwhile, Excise and BC Welfare Minister K. Ravindra has promised to initiate

necessary action to help create all the necessary infrastructure facilities including

water facility, which requires for jewellery manufacturing process. He also said that

an over head water tank costing an amount of Rs. 1 crore will be taken up to serve

the water issue and the park’s main road will be taken up with an amount of Rs. 1

crore. Imitation Jewellery Park Welfare Association president P.V. Subba Rao,

Secretary Jitendra Kumar has explained the Minister and the APIIC authorities

about the industry.

Municipal Chairperson Shri M Baba Prasad has initiated the poles of central divider

lighting, in 27th ward. He said that the activity is taken up to improve the

convenience of people of Machilipatnam during night time, an amount of Rs. 25

Lakhs is being spent on provision of 29 poles.

Inauguration of water supply pipelines construction has been taken up in many

places to deal with the deficit in the drinking water supply. The wards covered

include 3, 15, 28, 41 and 42. The details were as mentioned below

First year anniversary launch of AMRUT & Smart cities Mission has been conducted

on 25th June, 2016 in Machilipatnam Municipality. Various events and activities

have been organized to celebrate the event such as organizing essay writing and

painting competitions for school children on the issues like water conservation, etc.

Machilipatnam municipality took the initiative of group viewing of live telecast of the

launch by Honorable Prime Minister for officials, elected representatives and

citizens of the city. The Inauguration of foundation stone laying has been taken up in

Municipal Park, Bhaskarapuram, 8th ward by Sri Kollu Ravindhra Garu Minister for

Handloom, BC welfare and Excrise Department Government of Andhra Pradesh &

Sri Konakalla Narayana Rao, Panal Speaker and Member of parliament

Machilipatnam. The breakup of project cost under AMRUT for the year 2015 -16 is
