Passage: Mark 12:41-44
LEARN IT
We can trust God to take care of us. The rich man gave from his wealth,
but the widow gave all that she had. The widow knew that God was
watching and she knew that God would provide.
LINK IT
We have so much stuff, we don’t leave room for God to provide what we
need! Giving up a little of what God has given us reminds us it all belongs
to Him anyway.
COMPASS POINT
“When you give, go big. You’ll be glad that you did.”
LIVE IT
God didn’t give us money just to spend on ourselves; He gave it to us so
we could also share with others. It’s not about the amount we give, it’s
how we feel about giving that counts. Giving reminds us that God really
does supply everything we need.
MEMORY MAX
“Give your gifts in secret, and your Father,
who knows all secrets, will reward you.”
Matthew 6:4
Q-CARD episode 2 Q-CARD episode 2 Q-CARD episode 2
What do you like to spend your money on?
Share with your group an interest you have, a collection, or a hobby that you like to spend money on. (Allow kids time to discuss their interests, collections, or hobbies.)Why do we spend money on some things instead of others?
Why is it so important to give your money to the church? When you give your money to the church, you are really giving it to God. You give your money to the church to change your world, but it all starts in the middle. It all starts with you!
Have someone look up Matthew 6:24 and read it to your group. What does this verse say about our relationship to God and money? (Allow kids time to discuss this and share their thoughts with the group.)
You spend your money on what you care about, what is important to you. This verse says that when you give your money to the church, you are saying, “God, you are really important to me.” Your giving shows your love, devotion, and service to God to the whole world.
What is most important in giving money to the church?
Have someone look up 1 Corinthians 16:2 and read it to your group. Do the same with 2 Corinthians 9:7. According to these verses, it’s NOT how much money you give, BUT how much of your heart you give to God. God wants us to give back part of what we get: the more you have the more you should give. But the most important thing is that we do it cheerfully, joyfully, or happily, not just because we have to. It’s NOT the amount you give, BUT the attitude you give it with.
Pass out the Prayer Cards and ask your group to write down the commitment they made so you can pray for them this week.
Review today’s Memory Max with hand motions. Matthew 6:4 says, “Give your gifts in secret, and your Father, who knows all secrets, will reward you.”
Close in prayer, asking God to give each child a generous heart that gives joyfully to God by giving to the church.

AIM: Agents in Motion
Mission #2
Impact your Church
The purpose of this lesson plan is to:
• Create a fun and interactive learning experience
• Provide teaching options in addition to the Leader Q Card
• Creatively revisit the Bible story featured in the teaching video
• Give kids an opportunity to further explore the application point
PROGRAM
Activity Length of Segment Running Time
Q Card: Discussion 15 minutes Start-15 minutes
Picture: Bible Story 5 minutes 15-20 minutes
Play: Learning Activity 10 minutes 20-30 minutes
Plan: Group Commitment 5 minutes 30-35 minutes
Pray: Prayer Cards 5 minutes 35-45 minutes
PREP
You will need:
• Pennies or play money/coins (5-10 per small or large group)
• 3 large plastic cups labeled “5,” “10,” and “15” (one set per small or large
group)
• For younger kids: plastic bowls instead of cups (optional)
• Masking tape, yarn, or chairs for throw line (1 set of materials per small or
large group)
• Story Props (optional)
• Prayer Cards (1 per kid)
• MAP Books (1 per kid)
PICTURE
(The Bible Story)
In this portion of your class time you have the opportunity to retell the Bible story
presented earlier in the teaching video. The object is to paint a picture that kids will
understand and remember. When telling the story, remember you are painting a
picture for your viewers. Have fun and explore your creativity. Here are some ideas
to make your storytelling more memorable:
• Try asking kids to act out the story as you read it aloud
• The characters in the story are: Jesus, Rich People, Poor Widow
• You might use props: many pennies/coins for the rich, 2 pennies/coins for the
widow, collection box
2
The Widow’s Offering
Mark 12:41-44
Jesus went over to the collection box in the Temple and sat and watched as the
crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. Then a poor
widow came and dropped in two pennies. He called His disciples to Him and said, "I
assure you, this poor widow has given more than all the others have given. For they
gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she
has."
PLAY
(Learning Activity)
In this portion of your class time you will lead your class in a fun and exciting
activity that will help your kids apply the Bible lesson to their everyday lives.
“The Widow’s Coin Toss”
HOW TO START:
• Small or Large Group: Divide kids into 2-4 teams
• Set out the 3 large plastic cups on the table or floor
• Create a throw line using masking tape, yarn, or chairs
HOW TO PLAY:
• Say, “This game is called The Widow’s Coin Toss. This game will help us to
think about what great things can happen when we give back to God.”
• Begin Round #1: One player from each team plays in round #1
• Each player stands behind the throw line and one at a time tosses 5 coins into
the plastic cups
• Each coin successfully landing into a cup receives the point value displayed
• Each player adds up his/her cumulative points from the 5 coins tossed
• Record the number of points for each team
• Bonus Question: Ask the players a bonus question (see questions below)
• The first player to raise his/her hand and answer the question earns a bonus 5
points for his/her team
• Begin Round #2
• One player from each team plays in round #2
• Repeat all steps to complete round #2
• Repeat all steps for additional rounds as time and interest permit
PLAY OPTIONS:
• Hand out game prizes to all players
• For Younger Kids: Try using bowls instead of cups to create easier targets
• Bonus Activity: Coin Scatter – Scatter the coins on the ground. Record the
time as team #1 gathers all the coins and places them into a cup/bowl. Repeat
for each additional team. Lowest time wins the round.
3
GAME QUESTIONS:
• What does it mean to tithe?
• What is one thing that God has given to you?
• Why is it important to give back to God?
• How much did the widow give back to God? Was that a lot or a little for her to
give? Why?
• How can your tithes/gifts help the church?
• How can your tithes/gifts help others in need? (food, clothing, shelter, etc.)
• How can your tithes/gifts help the church to tell others about Jesus?
• What is more important: to give a lot of money, or to give with a grateful
heart? Why?
• How can giving your money back to God help your heart grow closer to Him?
• How do you feel about giving some of your money back to God? Why?
• Do you think God will give you everything you need? Why or why not?
• What does the Bible say will happen if you give your money back to God?
PLAN
(Group Commitment)
In this portion of your class time you have the opportunity to lead your group to make
a commitment. You may select any ONE of the options provided or your group may
create its own. Encourage the kids to write their commitments on their Prayer Cards
so you can be praying for them during the week.
Commitment Options:
• Make a list of all the things that God has given to you. Pray and ask God to
help you to be generous with the things He has given you.
• Think of ways you can give this week. Think about tithing your money at
church or giving food or clothes to someone in need.
• Pray for the needs of your church this week. Ask God to provide everything
that your church needs. Ask God to show you how you can make more and
more of an impact on your church.
PRAY
In this portion of your class time, have your kids fill out the Prayer Card. Take the
cards home and pray for your kids throughout the week. End your time together by
praying for your group commitment.
Hand out prayer cards
• Ask kids to fill in their commitments in the space provided
• Ask kids to fill in their prayer requests in the space provided
• Collect cards so you can take them home and pray for your kids
• Close in prayer
4
God, you have given us all the things we need, and every
good and perfect gift comes from you. Help us to have
generous, giving hearts that always give some of our
money back to you. We want to make a great impact. We
pray that you would provide all the needs of our church so
that together we can tell people about Jesus and meet the
needs of all God’s people. And we pray that you would help
us to joyfully do the things we have committed to do this
week. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Remember to…
• Hand out the MAP Books
• Encourage kids to complete at home with an adult and bring back next week!
