Viktor Emil Frankl (26 March 1905 – 2 September 1997)[ was an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist as well as a Holocaust survivor. Frankl was the founder of logotherapy, which is a form of existential analysis, the "Third Viennese School of Psychotherapy".

Ein Psychologe erlebt das Konzentrationslager, meaning Nevertheless, Say "Yes" to Life: A Psychologist Experiences the Concentration Camp) chronicles his experiences as a concentration camp inmate, which led him to discover the importance of finding meaning in all forms of existence, even the most brutal ones, and thus, a reason to continue living. Frankl became one of the key figures in existential therapy and a prominent source of inspiration for humanistic psychologists.

Freedom, however, is not the last word. Freedom is only part of the story and half of the truth. Freedom is but the negative aspect of the whole phenomenon whose positive aspect is responsibleness.

In fact, freedom is in danger of degenerating into mere arbitrariness unless it is lived in terms of responsibleness.

That is why I recommend that the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast be supplemented by a Statue of Responsibility on the West Coast

Then, to what degree and to what extent would God predetermine the accomplishment of the will?

God's will to accomplish the purpose of the providence of restoration is absolute, but the accomplishment of the will is relative.

(I.e. Adam/Eve, Cain/Abel, Noah, Abraham, Isaac,Esau-Jakob, Moses John the B. …)

So, it is predetermined that the will is to be accomplished, but only through God's 95 percent responsibility and man's 5 percent responsibility combined.

Indicating the proportion of man's responsibility as 5 percent is only to say that man's responsibility is extremely small compared to God's. Nevertheless, we must understand that, for man, it means 100 percent effort. /DP73

Although God’s Will of the providence of restoration is absolute and beyond human influence, its fulfillment necessarily requires the accomplishment of the human portion of responsibility (p. 156).

Viktor Frankl on Reframing Suffering

Frankl was an Austrian psychiatrist who was imprisoned by the Nazis in 1944 because of his Jewish pedigree. After being released, Frankl described his three years in the concentration camps in Man’s Search For Meaning.

The book does not make for comfortable reading since Frankl chronicles the torments of mind, body and spirit that he and the other prisoners had to endure.

But what intrigued me was when Frankl eloquently described how suffering enabled him and the other prisoners to understand what was truly important in life, and thus to be grateful for things that the rest of us take for granted.

Frankl described how conditions of extreme deprivation and cruelty enabled the prisoners to attain incredibly high levels of gratitude for tiny things, such as a colorful sunset or memories of family and loved ones. “We were grateful for the smallest of mercies”, he recalled.

Despite the unimaginably difficult circumstances he had to endure, Frankl found that it was possible to reframe his suffering in positive terms even at the time.

Not everyone could do this, for many prisoners lost hope and gave up on life; however for those who clung to their spiritual integrity, it was possible to realize high levels of spiritual freedom and purpose even in the midst of so much deprivation, darkness and death.

“Often it is just such an exceptionally difficult external situation which gives man the opportunity to grow spiritually beyond himself”, he wrote in his memoirs.

“The way in which a man accepts his fate and all the suffering it entails, the way in which he takes up his cross, gives him ample opportunity — even under the most difficult circumstances — to add a deeper meaning to his life.”

Second, by rising from John the Baptist’s position tothe position of the Messiah, Jesus paved the way for the

fulfillment of God’s three great blessings and the restoration of the four position foundation (p. 276).

Jesus was the fulfillment of the three manifestations of grace (tablets, Ark, and Tabernacle) and the Ten Commandments. Therefore, God

conducted the dispensation to start the second worldwide course to restore Canaan based on Jesus’ own words and miraculous deeds.

If the Jewish people (Cain) had been moved to believe in and follow Jesus, they would have restored the foundation of substance. The

foundation for the Messiah would thus have been laid.

Then, by engrafting all people with himself, humankind would have been reborn, cleansed of the original sin, and would have become one with God in heart. They would have restored their original, God-given nature and built the Kingdom of Heaven on earth in Jesus’ day (p. 276-7).

Satan confronted Jesus, working primarily through the Jewish leadership, priests, scribes, and in particular

Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
