The Magic Years Music Teacher delivers a high-quality music curriculum to students in the early years and primary years. The Music Teacher works in collaboration with the IB PYP coordinator and teaching teams to align with the
school-wide music curriculum and PYP Programme of Inquiry. The Music Teacher should be well organized with teaching material, lesson planning and time management. The Music Teacher attends Staff Meetings and supports all school events. The Music Teacher also plans for school assemblies, end of term musical performances, and school concerts. The Music Teachers helps to promote the musical life of the school community. The Music Teacher should have a genuine passion for music, energy, and love for teaching children. The Music Teacher should also possess strong piano/guitar/vocal skills and a working knowledge of prominent music education/methodologies (e.g. Orff-Schulwerk, Kodaly, Dalcroze, Feierabend, etc.). Roles and Responsibilities:
● Ability to put on public performances of children’s music ● Experience of managing student behavior and encouraging a high
standard of behavior and mutual respect between students and the school community.
● Select and use a range of different learning resources and equipment suitable for teaching Orff-Schulwerk music.
● Ability to write meaningful reports on children’s development in music ● Demonstrate excellent communication skills with children, parents and
staff ● Willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues across the school ● Be internationally-minded and sympathetic to the values of the IB ● Monitoring, recording and assessing students’ learning progress and
development ● Provides immediate and appropriate responses based upon student
needs ● Delivering a developmental, child-focussed curriculum ideally with an
understanding of the music education principles of Orff-Schulwerk, Kodaly, Dalcroze and Suzuki
● Identifying clear teaching objectives and specify how they will be taught and assessed
● Oversee a high quality of provision and delivery of the instrumental music curriculum
● Ensure the delivery of the instrumental curriculum provides the best learning environment for every student
● Communicate concerns and issues with parents, be available to meet and discuss these in person
