The Abbey It’s Self
Little information remains of the ancient abbey from which the village takes it’s name, though the name Luffield is Anglo-Saxon and means Lufas field. There was no trace of the ancient abbey in a survey conducted in 1732.
The Monks
The monks at the Abbey were Benedictine. It seems that with the Abbey gone, Numbers in the hamlet of Luffield Abbey declined dramatically. Census records show this.

The life of the MonksThe Monks got up at 2.30 am. They divided their day into 7 sections: Morning prayers, breakfast, chores, second prayers, secondary chores, third prayers and dinner. Monks lead a very strict life. They stuck to the timetable and read the bible. However in their spare time they write long books and beautiful documents. They also wrote and rewrote the bible many times.
