The history of the Abbey

• Sligo Abbey, is a ruined abbey in Sligo

• It was originally built by order of Maurice Fitzgerald

• It was destroyed in 1414 by a fire ravaged during the nine years war

• It was destroyed again in the Ulster Uprising

• The friars moved out in the 18th century but Lord Palmerston restored it in the 1850s

Visiting the Abbey

• Admission to the Abbey is 10 euro for a family

• Adult 4 euro

• Sen/group 3 euro

• Child/student 2 euro
