Plug Valves Material / Costruction.

In order to meet withInt’l Specifications andvarious Customers’ needs,Valvitalia is producing Lubricated Plug Valvessuitable to cover the widestapplications.

Executions

•Lubricated Inverted TaperPressure Balanced HighPerformance Plug Valves.

•Lubricated Inverted Taper PressureBalanced High Performance

•Standard Carbon Steelwhich are supplied in 0,22% MAXCarb. contents, and destined toGeneral Service at Temperaturesfrom - 29° C Up to + 232° C(- 20° F% + 450° F).Plugs are normally in Carbon Steeltoo, in Hardened Condition.

•Low Temperature Service Suitable from - 46° C to + 232° C(- 50° F% + 450° F). Normally used for Below Zero.Temperatures to - 46° C must have a Minimum AverageCharpy “V” Notch Impact Strengtha/15 Foot/Lb.

• In Natural Gas it is Possible toencounter small amounts ofHydrogen Sulfides (H2 5) whichmay cause corrosion.This phenomenon is normallyknown as “Hydrogen SulfideEmbrittlement” or “Sulfide StressCracking”.The Absorbtion of Hydrogen fromPart of the Steel Causes Ductilitywhich, when added to otherelements of stress given bythe service itself, may originatefailure of the forged orcast component.Steels with Yield Strengths

above 621 Mpa (90.000 PSI)or with Hardness over 22Rockwell (235Brinell) may besubject to “Sulfide Stress Cracking”.In Nace MR01.75-88 ConstructionDVE is carefully checking thatall basic materialcomponentes are propelytreated in order to remain belowthe Hardness of 22 Rockwell.In such a case, plugs areproperty Electro Nickel Coated toprevent galling action.

•Stainless Steel material whichcontains Molybdenum andsuitable for service temperaturefrom + 232° C to + 371° C(+ 450° of % 700° F)normally used for Valves destined to High TemperatureService or where High Corrosionresistance is needed.

•13% Chr. - 316 - Monel (Solid orCoating) Stellite No.6 (Coating)

•Special material available on request.

Lubricated SteelPlug Valves PressureBalanced Inverted Type.

These valves are installed whereexisting pulsant or static highpressures are present.The benefit which a pressurebalanced Plug gives is the equalizedpressure between the Plug and upper and lower body chambers.Pressure is balanced by two holesin the Plug connecting the Plug port with lower and upper cavities.

The hole in the lower end is a simple connecting passage whilst the hole in the upper end is providedwith a check valve so the pressure is always equal to the one in the large end cavity and it is always equal to or greater than theline pressure in the small end cavity.Some advantages are:

•Easy maintenance even after along time in open/closed position

•In case of locking of the Plug withthe body, it is possible to releaseby injecting lubricant through thegreaser with the valve in service

•Tightness of the stem is assuredby an antifriction ring fitted between the stem and body. Two gaskets fitted between thestem and valve body garanteeagainst any leakage through the stem.

•Tightness of the operating systemis assured by the ball checkdevices on the lubrication duct.An adictional check valve is put into the lubrication duct.

•When required the valve is equippedwith double operating greaseinjectors suitable for a lubricatinggun and lubricating sticks.

Extension Stemfor Wrench and Gear OperatedLubricated Plug Valvefor buried Installation.

Extended stems are made to beinstalled on Wrench Operatedstandard stems, in case of buriedinstallation of the Plug Valve or incase of installation of the valve inplant locations where a normalaccess of manouvre is not possible.Valve extension for undergroundservice include piping for lubricationand are supplied with water tightseals.Extension length should be advisedby customer.

As already described in case ofWrench Operated Valves, theseextesions are suitable for Plugvalves with gear operators.The extension stem is similarto the previous one.The position of thePlug is indicatedby an indicatoron the top of thegear box.

Valve extension for undergroundservice include piping for lubricationand are supplied with water tightseals. Extension length shouldbe advised by customer.
