The K-Radio 900 Keypad features an integrated radio

receiver operating in the 916MHz band and can store up to

56 two-way radio devices onboard (32 devices, 20 remote

controls and 4 sirens). The 128-bit AES encryption

(Advanced Encryption Standard) ensures maximum

protection against attempts of cloning or masking the signal.

The communication between the control panel and devices

is bidirectional for each type of transmission which must be

confirmed by the receiver, allowing to obtain the maximum

safety concerning the outcome of communication and to

avoid congestion of the radio signals.

Installation and maintenance are made easier by the total

lack of switches and potentiometers hardware; all devices

are configurable by the control panel. The learning mode of

the devices can be automatic by means of self-learning by

the control panel or manually by means of coding of each

individual device.

What are you most proud of in your career?

When I began a career in locksmithing I had very

little knowledge of the trade, along the way I have

learnt so much.

I consider myself lucky to have the luxury of being

in a large company that does all aspects of the

trade including automotive, safe work, most

master keying systems and we attend to jobs in

both commercial and residential.

I am currently a 4th year apprentice and thus far I

am most proud of the gaining the opportunity to fill

the position of workshop foreman and manage

the workshop. I have held this position for just

over a year now.

What’s your tip?

Something I have picked up along the way is that

you should always give everything ago and to

never substitute quality to complete a job.

Why locksmithing?

I started as an apprentice in the locksmithing trade

just by chance to be honest. However, my

grandfather was a fitter and machinist and from

this I developed an interest in metal work and

making or fixing things - an interest which has

been a motivator in my locksmithing career.

again at the MLAA Conference &

Exhibition, held this year at the

newly renovated Kardinia Park,

Geelong. The program included a

great mix of business and skills

sessions, a trade exhibition and the

opportunity to network with old

colleagues, friends and suppliers.

Back by popular demand, this

year’s Golf Day was held at the

world-class 13th Beach Golf Links

Resort at Barwon Heads. The AGM

featured keynote speaker and triple

Paralympic gold medallist, Dylan

Allcot, who’s speech was both

captivating and thought provoking.

The Gala dinner on the Saturday

night attracted over 200 people

which made for a sensational

evening. The Master of Ceremonies

for the Gala Dinner was Ian Cover

from hit ABC Radio football

comedy show, The Coodabeen Champions. With the help of fellow

Coodabeen Champions member,

Greg Champion, Ian kept the

evening light-hearted and full of

laughter. Special LSC guests to

note included Stuart & Margaret

Johnson and Ian & Annette Boyd.

Highlights included the

announcement of the winner of the

2017 John Andrew Apprentice of

the Year Competition and the

awarding of Life Memberships to

Cliff Forrester and Norm Axford –

two well-known and well-respected

locksmithing identities.
