WELCOMETOTHE9THANNUALASTROLOGYSTUDENTCONFERENCE!

Once again we feel proud and privileged to have a line-up of world-class speakers – a stellium of leading teachers, authors andconsultants who will be sharing their insights during this special weekend.

The theme of our 9th conference is ‘Astrology: Surviving and Thriving Post-Uranus Square Pluto.’ We have a series of talks exploring how astrology can be used to enhance our personal and professional lives, as well as our understanding of ourselves and the people around us.

We’re delighted to welcome back stellar astrologers Lynn Bell and Christeen Skinner, as well as gifted academic Dr Mark Williams. Legendary Astrology Shop and Equinox founder Robert Currey will be joining us for the first time, and we’ll be introducing horary/electional whiz Wade Caves to our conference as well as long-established writer and award-winning astrologer Bernard Eccles.

For this two-day event, we’re back at our sparkling, breezy venue from last year – the function rooms on the first floor of the famous Browns restaurant on St Martin’s Lane (just minutes from Leicester Square and Covent Garden). We’ll also be having our annual Saturday night dinner in a private room at Browns. We shall have a bookstall of the latest titles, classic texts and books from the speakers, all thanks to The Astrology Shop of Neal Street, Covent Garden – and the shop is close enough to visit during the lunch breaks. The shop’s owner, Barry Street, is arranging some special offers and generous surprises for us.

We thank you all for your continued support of this event. We look forward to welcoming you to the conference on the weekend of 11 and 12 June 2016.

10:30–11:45 RelentlessProgress:theUranus–Neptune CycleRunningintheBackground BernardEcclesThe bigger the cycle, the more significant its effects. The Uranus–Neptune conjunction of 1993 has changed the world we live in – and our astrology, too. Yet for anyone under forty, it’s history, and therefore easy to ignore. All the more reason, then, to pay attention to the opening sextile of this era-defining cycle, which is coming up in the 2020s, and the less comfortable square due in the 2030s. Nor should we ignore the epicycle formed by Uranus (currently squaring the Uranus–Neptune conjunction degree), which provides crisis points right now. As always, the best way to understand it is to look backwards as well as forwards, to 1830, 1650, and maybe even to 453. Is the runaway train of technological progress about to run away with us – or crash?

11:45–12:00 Break

12:00–13:15 Uranus–PlutoandtheLessonsoftheAbject DrMarkWilliamsThe world has been suffused with the distinctive Kafkaesque odour of Uranus–Pluto, in which the improbable blends with the inexplicable and the implacable. Many people have found that these themes – a combination of the unpleasant and the unbelievable – have constellated in their own lives during this transit, forcing them to deal with the necessity of radical change or equally radical acceptance. Mark and co-presenter Dr JohnB. Samuels will use a range of individual and mundane charts to show how the transit has unfolded and to suggest that, in learning to live with the immovable, some psychological gold is to be found.

14:15–15:30 CaseHistoriesinFinancialandBusiness AstrologyChristeenSkinnerUsing six examples of questions raised by clients in recent years, Christeen will offer a glimpse into the practicalities of using planetary cycles in the business and financial worlds.

16:00–16:40 HumourintheHoroscope: TheAstrologyofComedyFrankCliffordWhich areas of the chart reveal our sense of humour? Do certain planets link with particular types of comedy and comedian? Are there specific factors that stand out in the horoscopes of famous comedians and those friends who make us laugh? Expect a hearty chuckle as you join Frank on his quest for signs of comedic talent in the horoscope. Guaranteed to be done in the best possible taste...

16:45–17:30 AstrologyQ&AwiththePanelofSpeakersA chance to dialogue with the speakers about various astrological areas and current issues facing practitioners. (A recording will be made available to those attending Lynn Bell’s workshop.)

16:45–18:45 WrestlingwithSquaresaworkshop withLynnBell(additional£30)Squares in the birth chart push us forward. They are often factors for great dynamism, and when squares form between dynamic planets, like Mars and Jupiter, they often bring extraordinary results. But what’s wrong with squares? Part of the issue is that it’s hard to get a handle on the internal tensions that drive these squares – while one aspect of the self is in overdrive, another is often undernourished, falling into unconsciousness. Squares have a way of biting your tail, throwing you off balance.

Often the conflicts described by squares manifest in our dealings with others, and may irrupt into tension and disagreement. They can generate relentless activity that ends up exhausting or even harming the person. Of course not all squares are alike. With Saturn, there can be great inhibition, doubt and frustration. In some cases this is so strong that there is little energy left to move forward. Today, we shall explore the many expressions of squares in the birth chart, as well as the ways to rein them in and tame them.

19:00– DinneratBrown’s(additional£35) –seedetailsoverleafDinner includes a short talk by BernardEcclesentitled HiddeninPlainSight:SneakySurvivalTips forAstrologers in the21stCentury: It’s a high-tech, high-expectation world out there, and astrology seems to have lost its edge. Here are some ways to get ahead – employing your art to slip through the minefield of office politics, sidestep disasters, and ensure that the sun always shines on you – without letting on how you do it.

10:00–10:30 Registration

10:30–11:45 GuidingPrinciplesinElectionalAstrology WadeCavesA knowledge of electional astrology enables us to select ideal times for the big decisions in our lives – when to open the bookstore, when to sign that lease, when to tie the knot – and avoid foreseeable troubles. In this talk, we will explore the principles of electional astrology, complete with example charts and exercises. The techniques are simple and straightforward and, once understood, will better equip every astrologer in their practice.

11:45–12:15 Break

12:15–13:30 Astro*Carto*Graphy (LocationalAstrology)RobertCurreyIf natal and predictive astrology speak of ‘who’ and ‘when’, Astro*Carto*Graphy (ACG) tells us ‘where’. This technique projects the birth chart onto a map of the world. Today, we will review how ACG works, how to read your ACG world map, and how to combine the natal chart with the ACG map to select your best locations in the world. It is useful to bring along an ACG map and your natal chart to benefit fully from this talk. Your ACG map can be printed from most astrology software packages, but a full size Astro*Carto*Graphy map kit (with handbook) can be obtained from www.astrology.co.uk (if ordering online, please mention this talk and we will include additional material that will be useful for finding your ideal location).

13:30–14:45 Lunch

14:45–16:00 TheAscendant:FriendorFoe?WendyStaceyThis talk will re-examine the themes and myths surrounding the Ascendant, which reveals how we project our identity onto the world and interact with our environment. We shall also consider instances where the Ascendant gels well with the rest of the chart and those cases in which it sits rather awkwardly.

16:00–16:30 Break

16:30–17:45 InvisibleConjunctions:WhatWe Don’tSeeAboutOurselvesLynnBellOften the effects of planetary conjunctions in a horoscope cannot be seen objectively by their owner, even if they are strikingly apparent to everyone else. Are conjunctions a case of too close for comfort, or a harmonious blend of different energies? In the Vedic tradition, planets at the same degree are at war, while in horary astrology planets conjunct the Sun are said to be burnt. If the conjunction is like two people vying for space in front of the same mirror, how does it differ in nature from the square? We’ll look at these questions and shall discover that not all conjunctions are alike.
