Leave I will be taking 2 weeks long service leave following the spring

vacation. Mrs Maksoud will act as principal in my absence. Mrs

Umstad will continue as Deputy Principal and Mr Howell will

continue as Acting Heads of curriculum until I return in week 3.

School planning for 2018 I would appreciate any families intending to leave Logan Village in 2018 to attend the new

school in Yarrabilba or any other school, to inform the office as soon as possible.

I am anticipating some students transferring to other schools however I need to be able

to make plans for the new year.

Teacher numbers at our school are likely be affected by a loss in student numbers. I

need to give teachers as much notice as possible if they are to be moved in the new year.

Please email the office on [email protected] along with the name of the child/ren

and the destination school.

Prep Enrolments and Transition Next term we will begin organisation of classes for prep in 2018. We would like to remind

all parents if they have not completed their enrolment forms that these need to be

handed in as soon as possible.

At Logan Village we conduct a prep readiness screening process and all students prior to

attending school are to book for this. Bookings will be taken at our Prep information

session and also then at our Open session - Wednesday 18 October 2017 5.00pm –

6.00pm to be held in the hall. Appointments times for Brigance Screen (Child

Development Screen) will also be available at this session and at the Prep Open Day

Friday 24 November 2017 9.00am –11.00am.

Changes to Logan Village SS catchment for 2018

With the opening of the new school in Yarrabilba in 2018, there have been changes to our catchment and as a result new students enrolling at Logan Village for next year, must now live inside the new catchment boundaries.

You can check your school catchment at the website below;

http://www.qgso.qld.gov.au/maps/edmap/

Any enrolments received prior to 22 August 2017 before the new catchment came into effect will be accepted for 2018. Out of catchment enrolments received after this date will not be accepted.

Year 6 Dance Lessons Term 4: Next term all of our Year 6 students will be provided with 9 weekly dance lessons from

‘Footsteps Dance Company’.

Our students have all voted on a song they would like to learn a choreographed routine to

and the most voted song was ‘Mama’ by Jonas Blue.

Logan Village Ninja Warrior : PBL Term 3 Rewards Day

On Tuesday this week, all of our Level 1 Behaviour Students were rewarded for their

efforts with a 40 minute session on an inflatable obstacle course, we called our Logan

Village Ninja Warrior Course! The children all thoroughly enjoyed this activity!

200 GOTCHAS!

Congratulations to the following students for earning 200+ Gotchas! They have all demonstrated outstanding behaviour at Logan Village State School by being Respectful, Responsible and Safe Learners. It requires great

effort to achieve this level and we are extremely proud of their accomplishments. Well done!

Book Week Parades

It was wonderful to see so many students and staff dressed for the Book

week parades today. A big thankyou to Mrs Kelly and Mr Gunnis for the

coordination of the event.

The smiles on the faces of the students makes days like this very memorable.

The student engagement in the books was clearly evident.

I would like to thank the many parents for their huge efforts to come up

with so many creative costumes.

Music Visit to Opal Gardens

On Wednesday 13 September, Logan Village SS Pop Choir visited the Opals Retirement Village to perform. There were thirty three students from years 4 to 6 involved. The students did a super job of performing six songs and the residents were thoroughly entertained. Some even stated that the Choir was more confident and outgoing than their first visit last year. Choir Captain Mackenzie introduced items while, Taylor played the keyboard for one piece and Mickinley played the ukelele for another. At the conclusion of the performance, the residents provided morning tea for the students and sat with them to share conversation. The students had a great time.

MSP - School Photos – 26th & 27th October Photo envelopes will be distributed in term 4.

Details to order online are on your student’s envelope.

Envelopes are to be returned on the day to the

photographer with cash (correct money only) as no change

will be given.

Balancing work and family

Managing home and the working week…who’s responsibility?

Helping to keep the show on the road is the responsibility of everyone in the family, including our kids.

With the exception of babies and toddlers, everyone has their job to do to get out the door in time.

Within the family unit, everyone needs to know what’s expected. Little kids can pack their library bag,

tidy their toys or make sure they have their lunch. Older kids can work to reminders on their phones or

tablets and partners can delegate, take turns and be flexible in ways to support each other.

EVERYBODY can get up 10 minutes earlier if required.

If it takes lists, electronic reminders, delegation, swapping roles, letting kids face consequences of

homework not completed, ignoring the mess for a week or the occasional takeaway, then so be it.

Balancing work and family is not the sole responsibility of a senior partner.

Keeping a lid on stress

For any parents balancing work and family, it would be impossible not to feel stressed at times. Both

work and family can make huge demands in terms of our time, decision making, commitment and

energy. Keeping a lid on stress requires us to recognise that it’s happening. Signs include tiredness,

anxiety, inability to make decisions, loss of concentration, difficulty relaxing, feeling overwhelmed,

headaches, changes in appetite or low self-esteem.

Some useful stress busters include:

Healthy eating and regular exercise (especially lunch breaks)

Breaks from electronic devices and social media

Walking, cycling or using public transport to and from work

Accepting some things are out of our control and asking for support

Regular family holidays and relaxation times

Keeping up with hobbies and interests

Making time for a facial, massage, movies, dining out – anything that reminds us we deserve

some pampering

Have a safety net in place

Managing work and family is a balancing act, and all good balancing acts need a safety net for when

things don’t quite go as expected. For working parents, a support team is essential. A support team can

include grandparents and other extended family, neighbours, long or occasional day care, significant

friends, after school care, a nanny, or paid babysitter. What’s important is that our support team is in

place before we go back into the workforce.

A support team can also include our employer. Sickness happens, as do train cancellations and pets gone

missing. Many fathers today want more involvement and are keen to share the nurture and care. The

possibility of working from home one day/week can make a huge difference to the mental health of

either parent (sole parent in particular). Negotiating with an employer who is flexible and understanding,

can take the anxiety out of potentially stressful parenting.

To balance work and family takes teamwork. It takes shared roles, respect and commitment. It requires

us as working parents to be flexible, and continually look for better ways to manage our time. Balancing

the workload is a whole family responsibility, and if the whole family is on board, the load is lighter.
