the trust of others. “I’d like to sit down and

talk to them and find out what their ideas are, what their concerns are and see how maybe we can address them,” Hall said.

For the Calhoun County Commissioner precinct 3 race, incumbent Neil Fritsch faced Jon Adame on the Democratic ballot. Fritsch ended the night with 289 votes, topping Adame’s 208 total votes.

Fritsch will face Republican Clyde Syma in the general election. Syma received 622 total votes.

In early voting, 94 ballots were cast for Fritsch while 72

were for Adame. There were 176 early voting ballots cast for Syma.

Fritsch maintained his lead midway with 185 votes to Adame’s 131 votes. For Syma midway through counting, he had 295 ballots cast in his favor.

Fritsch said he appreciates the support from voters and thanked everyone who voted in the election. He added that he will continue to take care of his constituents and the county through to the November election.

The only other opposed race was for Calhoun County sheriff. Incumbent George

Aleman ran on the Democratic ticket while Bobbie Vickery was on the Republican ballot.

Neither candidate had an opponent on their respective primary ballots, and the pair will face one another in the November election.

For Vickery, 677 ballots were cast during early voting, while Aleman received 432 votes. Vickery had 1,289 votes during midway totals and Aleman garnered 803 votes. In the final total, Vickery received 2,666 ballots cast for him and Aleman had 1,392 votes.

In addition to the contested races, several

candidates ran unopposed during the primary.

Constable Eugene Menchaca, of precinct 1, ran on the Republican ballot and had a total of 345 votes. During early voting, Menchaca received 112 votes while he totaled 205 after midway total were announced.

Precinct 2 Constable William “Billy” Billings had 132 ballots cast in his favor following early voting while 195 votes were announced midway through counting. He ended the race with a total of 403 votes. Billings ran on the Democratic ticket.

Constable Kevin Koliba,

of precinct 4, ended the night with 503 total votes, getting 102 during early voting and 146 during midway counts. Koliba ran on the Republican ticket.

Tax assessor/collector Gloria Ochoa earned 1,442 votes by the end of voting. Ochoa, who ran for office on the Democratic ballot, had 448 votes coming out of early voting and 831 votes midway through the counting of the ballots.

County political chairs were also decided Tuesday night. Republican Russell Can got 2,802 votes total with 739 in early voting and 1,375 ballots cast in his favor following the midway count announcement.

Following early voting, Democrat Evelyn Burleson had 383 votes and 724 votes were counted midway through. She ended the race with 1,242 ballots cast in her favor. Neither chairperson was opposed.

Tabulating the results Tuesday took longer than

usual. Elections administrator Dora Garcia said voting precinct 12 ran out of Republican ballots, and voters had to make their decision on photocopied ballots. Precinct 12 voting was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

According to Garcia, 78 ballots had to be hand-counted and manually entered into the computer. Garcia said running out of ballots is not a normal occurrence.

“I hardly ever run out of ballots. There was a really high turn out for Republicans,” Garcia said.

She did not speculate as to why the turnout for the Republican part was higher than anticipated.

There are 12,613 registered voters in Calhoun County, and 5,120 total ballots, or 40.59 percent, were cast in the primary election. Of those, 3,484 people, or 68.05 percent, voted with the Republican Party and 1,636, or 31.95 percent, voters cast a Democratic Party ticket.
