Can Lions swim?

• Can but not that well• They will only swim, If

there’s necessary• Some of the lions able to

swim, especially big cats of Africa

• Unlike their cousins (other cats) they are not fancy to water

Science Aspects : Physics

Page 3: Lions Group (2E3)

How Lions camouflage themselves ?

• They camouflage by hiding in tall savannah grass• When their prey comes by , they pounce on them and make their kill.• They also use it when their prey runs too fast for them to catch.• They are generally lazy • They camouflage to hide from the

heat.

Science Aspects : Physics

Describe the extraordinary lengths/mass/size or other measurements of the lion• Lions live for 10–14 years in the wild, in captivity they can live longer than 20 years.• In the wild, males seldom live longer than 10 years• Injuries sustained from continual fighting with rival males greatly reduces their longevity• Highly distinctive, the male lion is easily

recognised by its mane• Its face is one of the most widely recognised

animal symbols in human culture

Science Aspects : Biology

How lion is born?

• Lion give birth to their young

• The gestation period last for 105-110days

• They give birth 1-5 cups each litter

• Lionesses can give birth every two years

Page 6: Lions Group (2E3)

Science Aspects : Biology

• They lie in shade and sand (hot weather)

• They have thick fur (cold weather)

• They find dark places (cold weather)

• They also huddle in groups to help keep in heat.

How its body functions to enable it to survive in hot/cold ?

Page 7: Lions Group (2E3)

Science Aspects : Biology

• They living on grassy plains

• Dry thorn forest

• They prefer to live near river because to ensure constant water supply

• Water attracts prey

• Live on grassy plains and dry thorn forest

Question 5 BIOLOGY

How its body functions to enable it to survive in cold environment?

• They have thick fur (cold weather)• They find dark places (cold weather)• They also huddle in groups to help keep

in heat.

VALUES ASPECTSResponsibility • They take care and protect their offspring.• They keep predator away from their

offspring

Perseverance• They try their best to find their prey for

their offspring even though they might get injured during the process of killing their prey

Page 14: Lions Group (2E3)

POSITIVE CHARACTERISTICS

• Lions are determined animals• Female lions work together to catch a prey to

eat.• They encircle their prey from different angle

points.• Once they are ready, the attack is short and

powerful• They attempt to catch the victim with a fast

rush and final leap.

Page 15: Lions Group (2E3)

RECYCLING• Lion’s dung has its useful ways like for example:• It is mixed with water and then spread it along

tracks to prevent wild deer from running into tracks and getting killed by accident.

• Deer are shunned by the aroma of the Lion’s dung and this prevents them from going near to train tracks.

Page 16: Lions Group (2E3)

DEFENCE MECHANISM OF A LION

• It has 3 inches teeth and 3 inches claws.

• It also has strong swipes that can knock down its opponent.

• A lion’s defence mechanisms are the display of its overall size and power(posture of chest out, head back)

Page 17: Lions Group (2E3)

DEFENCE MECHANISM OF A LION

• Their tremendous roar, their growl, a display of their large razor claws , a preliminary pounce or run towards a threat in an effort to make it flee and if necessary an unbelievable ability to attack and kill virtually any opponent.

Our reflections “ I personally feel that this group project is knowledgeable and interesting because we are learning about animals and the animal my group is researching about is on Lions. Surprisingly I find many interesting facts about Lions like their behavioural characteristics and physical which I do not know of. “

Our reflections “ I feel that this group project is interesting. At first when I heard that we are going to the zoo, I thought it will be so boring and not really that important. After going for this learning journey, I learn a lot of interesting facts about the various animals . It was a fun experience ” ~ Nurlina
