No “miracle money” at Lambani

Those who are banking on the purported windfall of miracle money at Lambani for their Christmas plans are in for a big letdown. The secret is now out - there is no miracle money at Lambani.

In August this year, rumours spread like wildfi re that a church in the area was praying for people and then they got “miracle amounts” of money in their bank accounts.

People streamed from all corners of the coun-try to be the fi rst to get the cash. Some even kept a vigil outside the pastor’s home to be the fi rst ones to be prayed for.

This paper ran a story of people alleged to have received massive bank increases in their accounts. Some of those who allegedly got hundreds of thousands in cash are said to have brought the money to the church for all to see and that the pastor prayed for it. It was said to be happening at The Tower of Prayer Christian Centre in the village.

The church is under the leadership of Pastor Azwihangwisi Nemavhoyini, who is said to be behind the miracle money.

After intensive investigations in the communi-ty, meeting the pastor who is alleged to be mak-ing “miracle money” and meeting people whose bank cards were prayed for, Limpopo Mirror can now safely say that there is no “miracle money” at Ha Lambani.

No one in the village is prepared to stand up and testify that they got the “miracle money”. All they are prepared to say is that the pastor is in the best position to talk about the money. They also

refused to show any of the money and could not even give proof as to what they had bought with the money.

The origin of the bundles of cash that was displayed during the church service is not known up to now. The police also do not have a clue regarding the hundreds of thousands of rands displayed during the church service.

Many people, including religious leaders, have come out strongly against the “miracle money,” saying it was misleading God’s people. Thabelo Nalana claims he was assaulted by a member of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) at a road block.

A South African resident claims he was assaulted by a soldier near the Beit Bridge border post simply because he "looked like a Malawian."

Thabelo Nalana explained that the incident occurred at a road-block manned by members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) a fortnight ago. Nalana was returning from Ma-

lawi with some other people in a taxi when they were stopped by SANDF members. He said one of the soldiers went straight to the driver and told him to pay a bribe of R100 in cash, or they would search the vehicle.

“The taxi driver refused to pay the bribe and gave them the opportunity to search the vehicle," said Nalana. "One of

them became u p s e t w i t h the driver. He quickly opened the front door and said 'Let me start with this Malawian man.' He then pulled me out a n d h i t m e several times in the ribs. He ordered me to give him R100, b u t w h e n I r e f u s e d , h e

continued to assault me. What worries me is that the man nev-er asked to see my passport,” Nalana said.

“I asked one of the soldiers to show me their commander. I talked to him and he apologized for what had happened. The commander requested one of the soldiers to take me to Musina in order to get another taxi, but the one who had assaulted me told me to go. He said I could go to the highest office in the country, he was untouchable. I then pro-ceeded to open an assault case at the Musina police station,” said Nalana.

The spokesperson for the Mu-sina police station, Lieutenant Peter Mudau, confirmed that an assault case had been opened against a member of the South African National Defence Force. Mudau said the case was still under investigation and more information would be disclosed soon.

Former President Nelson Mandela was hailed as an unselfish man who sacrificed his life for the poor until his death. During a memorial service held at Worship House at Shayandima last Friday, speaker after speaker described the world icon in a similar way as if they were quoting from the same book. In our photo, members of the ANC Women’s League are singing praise songs for Madiba.

Photographer challenges region’s women

Queues started to build up at Beit Bridge

Up-and-coming photographer Funani Nemakonde.

Up-and-coming freelance pho-tographer Funanani Nema-konde is challenging women not to look down upon them-selves and choose jobs along gender lines.

Nemakonde (27) of Dzindi is fast becoming a household name in the photographic business and has embarked on a journey to revolutionize the photographic industry in Vhembe. She special-izes in occasions like weddings, parties, and funerals and she takes quality videos and photos and is also starting to look at making movies.

She developed an interest in photography because her father was a photographer but is worried that the field is a no-go area for women in Vhembe. “It is time that women come out of their cocoon and take their rightful place and compete with men in the industry. There are no specific jobs for a specific gender. We are all equal and we can do the same jobs. I have loved photography since I was young and was en-couraged by my father.”

She said the urge became ir-resistible after her father bought a video camera for home use. “There was this family wedding and I took a chance to video the

wedding. After seeing the video, my father encouraged me, saying that it was very good. I took it from there and the rest is now history, “she said.

Nemakonde has big plans for her busi-ness. “I have s tar ted very small , but I am dreaming of a big com-pany with big equipment and also employing other youths. With the in-spiration I am getting from local guys who are making it in Gauteng, I think the sky is the limit,” she said.

She said her quality work has earned her many clients and she is very busy this fes-t ive season. She is also a student at the University of

Venda, but her dream career is photography.

Those who would like to use her services can do so by phoning her on 082 946 1044.

Long queues of travellers have started to build up at the Beit Bridge Border Post between South Africa and Zimbabwe as travellers, mostly Zimbabwe-ans, have started flocking home ahead of the festive period.

When Limpopo Mirror visit-ed the border post on Tuesday, there was a high traffic volume and police visibility along the N1 highway leading to Musina. Holidaymakers were travelling from South Africa to Zimbabwe and countries further north, using the busy port of entry.

Authorities said they expected traffic congestion at the border to start building up over the week-end as Zimbabweans working in South Africa would be starting to flock home to spend Christmas with their families.

In an interview, Zimbabwe’s immigration manager in charge of Beit Bridge Border Post, Mr Charles Gwede, said that as part of their de-congestion drive, they had scrambled their shifts to maximize on manpower during the normal and extra peak days.

“From 13 December we have been receiving a huge influx of travellers and anticipate a further increase over the coming week-end as more travellers will pass through the border for Christmas. We have dissolved our shifts to ensure that we have more officers per shift who will effectively manage the queues and speed up the clearance process."

Beit Bridge Border Post has a staff complement of 47 officers and support staff. Gwede said they had been experiencing an increase in the number of travel-lers passing through the border since the closing of schools in Zimbabwe and South Africa. “We have suspended off and leave days for our staff from 13 December to 13 January next year. As border stakeholders, we held several inter-border meetings with our South African counterparts to discuss and ex-plore ways and strategies aimed at dealing with congestion during extra peak periods," he added.

According to him, more ser-vice points for visitors will be

created as a way of trying to decongest the border and reduce queues.

"We want to make sure that people do not spend more than 30 minutes in the queues and those travelling in buses will be cleared according to the vehicle register to avoid unnecessary congestion,” said Gwede.

Last year during the Christmas holidays, travellers spent several days stranded at the border be-cause of congestion and delays by immigration officials. During a recent Zimbabwe/South Africa Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security meeting in Bulawayo, the Home Affairs ministers from the two countries said they would come up with a range of measures to curb con-gestion and weed out criminal activity at the Beit Bridge Border Post during the festive season.

Beit Bridge is the busiest in-land port of entry in sub-Saharan Africa, handling an average of 10 000 travellers daily, with the figures doubling up during peak periods such Christmas holiday.

Some property belonging to the lady who is believed to be the suspect's partner was burnt outside the house.

A police officer from the Makhado SAPS tried to reason with the angry youths who wielded sticks, iron rods and electrical pipes, but they shouted at him to leave them alone.

Emotions are still running high after chaos in TshikotaThe winds of uncertainty are still hovering over Tshikota, causing residents to live in fear and hesitate to leave their homes unattended while

they go to their work places.Three weeks ago, community members went ber-

serk and burnt down a hostel, set a suspect's lover's RDP house on fire and went out looking for a man who was thought to have been the leader of a group which terrorised the community.

On 27 November, the youths, even minors who could have been no more than eight years old, searched for the suspect in the bushes at the back of the Tshikota cemetery. They were armed with iron rods, sticks, stones and wires.

The search proceeded to the dense bushes in the vicinity of Palm Motors, before the angry youths decided to go to look for the suspect's lover at Dzithangani. They said that they wanted to discipline her for harbouring a criminal in her RDP house, which had also been set on fire some two days before.

However, the youths returned while still carrying weapons at around 12:43. “We will get him; (he) thinks that he can get away,” some youths told a police officer who requested them to stop moving around the area with weapons in their hands. They told the police officer to leave them alone.

The suspect's said partner had since fled Tshi-kota.

The suspect was later arrested at around 16:00. The police's provincial spokesperson, Col Ronél Otto, confirmed that a suspect, Given Mpofu (24), had been arrested, along with his two co-accused, Ndulani Menukula (23) and Courage Shoko (23).

Meanwhile, Cllr Brian du Plooy (Ward 21) said that he and his ward committee were involved in regular meetings to address the problem and griev-ances of the residents regarding illegal immigrants. He indicated that the situation became tumultuous on 1 December, when there were “xenophobic attacks” from both sides – Zimbabwean and South African.

“The police acted appropriately and helped disperse the crowds of fighting parties,” said Du Plooy. “I also learned that the mayor visited the place (Tshikota) but he couldn't speak with resi-dents because he is said to have noticed that they were drunk.” However, Du Plooy pointed out that negotiations continued between the leadership of the South African residents in Tshikota and the immigrants to reach a resolution. “The community needs the Zimbabweans to compile a list of legal and illegal immigrants in Tshikota,” he said.

“Meanwhile, I have also learned that the munic-ipality has instructed its attorneys to file a court interdict to remove illegal immigrants who are currently occupying the hostel."

The deceased's brother, Mr Junias Mpandasikwa, is flanked by members of the Tshikota Zim Committee, Mr Edgeos Mutimbu and Mr Gift Eglone.

A cobbler in Makhado (Louis Trichardt), M r P a s i p a n o d y a Mate, says that all Zimbabweans are not criminals.

The Zimbabwean community in Tshi-kota is appealing for peace to their “South African brothers and sisters”,

following the d e a t h o f a Zimbabwean man who was knocked down by a car and later died in hospital.

According to the Tshikota Zim Commit-tee's secretary, Mr Pasipano-dya Mate (38), t h e Z i m b a -bweans were walking along

the street, heading to the hostel for a meeting on 1 December at around 18:25. A South African motorist and resident in Tshikota, in a VW Polo, drove through the congested crowd of people, who quickly scattered away.

However, Mr Belief Mupo was not that lucky as he was hit by the car. Mupo later died in Polokwane Hospital. “We saw it with our own eyes that the driver intended to kill the lot of us by running over us,” says Mate.

“I informed the police, who were monitoring the situation, but one official answered that 'You Zimbabweans are becoming too many here'.”

“I visited [Mupo] at the LTT Memorial and Polokwane hospitals, and he had severe head injuries and other visible in-juries on his cheek and mouth,” says Mate.

He adds that he fails to understand the kind of hatred displayed by some South Africans in Tshikota. “We understand that there might be some people from Zim who also steal from South Africans, but that doesn't mean that all Zimbabweans in South Africa are criminals,” he says.

Violence erupted in Tshikota in the third week of November, after members of the community said that “illegal im-migrants and criminals” were terrorising the locals. “Our purpose for meeting at the community hall was to discuss ways of working hand in glove with our SA brothers and sisters in the war against crime,” said Mate.

The deceased's older brother, Mr Ju-nias Mpandasikwa, who travelled from Zimbabwe shortly after learning about his brother's death, opened a case of culpable

One man dies as a result of chaos in Tshikota

homicide at the Makha-do police station. “I am shocked by my brother's death – why him?” he worried.

The police's provin-cial spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto, confirmed that a case of culpable homicide was opened on 11 December. Ward 21's Cllr Abraham du Plooy said that he was not aware that the man who was hit by the car had died.

“But the incident of the man who was acci-dentally hit by the car is not by any means connected to Sunday's 'xenophobic attacks', yet it happened on Sunday,” Du Plooy said. Mr Shueb Ahmed.

While other businessmen decided not to open their businesses last Sunday, in honour of the burial of former State President Nel-son Mandela, the situation was completely different at all four branches of VS Hardware Stores. As usual, all the employees worked from 08:00 to 13:00.

The managing director of the chain of hardware stores, Mr Shueb Ahmed, revealed that whatever profit they got from last Sunday’s sales, will go to the Mandela Chil-dren’s Fund. “That is the pledge I have made to the administrators of the fund and all my employees were happy with the arrangement,” he said. Ahmed said that he is now proud to be a South African because of the sacrifices made by Mandela.

He further indicat-ed that Mr Mandela loved children more than anything else and that the only way people could please him was to donate something to the fund, so that needy children can continue to benefit from it in var-ious ways. He further indicated that he would

continue to fund the organization in the coming years as a token of appreciation “for the good things Tata Mandela did, not only for South Africa, but the world at large. South African is now a rainbow nation all because of his sacrifices.”

Ahmed is known for the donations and sponsorships he gives to various local organisations, including crèch-es, schools, churches, football teams and other charitable organisations from time to time.

Rumba maestro Zozo, who released his new album and is worried about piracy.

By Elmon Tshikhudo

Rumba megastar lashes out at pirates Will there be water for Christmas?Multi-talented and multi-ple-award-winning rumba and tshingondo megastar, Joseph Mbiza or Zozo and Sengere Superbeat to his fans, has come out strongly against his fellow countrymen or Ama Ten Ten who thrive on selling fake music.

Zozo, who is formerly from Zimbabwe, released his 15th offering, Volume 15 entitled Mafhuri, last week.

The seven-track album is the continuation of Zozo’s journey to artistic excellence, which started many years ago. The new offering boasts powerful tracks like the title track Mafuri, Dhondzo and Didingwe.

Zozo said in as much as he

was still prepared to dish out good music, he was worried about the rampant fake music industry that was mushrooming in Thohoyandou. He said music pirates, the Ama Ten Ten, were destroying the music industry and they should be stopped in their tracks.

Addressing hundreds of his fans in Thohoyandou during a stopover along one of the busy streets, Zozo said the music industry was heading for a dead end because of the pirates. “There are no more music shops in town because they could not compete with these ruthless thieves who sell our music at next to nothing. Many in this industry have lost their jobs and

artists are now at the receiving end as their music is found on pavements and sold for as little as R10, with the money going to the pirates,” he said.

Zozo blamed the mess in the industry on Zimbabweans, who he alleges are the ones running the piracy cartels in Thohoyan-dou. “I am also from that other part of the Limpopo River, but I am here to earn an honest living. My brothers are not here for good. If you find them selling pirated music, just grab as much as you can and do not pay a cent because they are thieves. By so doing we will be able to destroy and end this illegal market,” added Zozo.

He said he was surprised be-cause if a person stole in town, they would chase him until they caught up with him, but the same people are leaving daylight thieves to continue selling their illegal music.

“Some are contrib-uting to this rampant piracy by buying the illegal music. If we do not buy, or take the music without pay-ing, they will definite-ly stop their illegal trade,” he said.

Zozo's music is now available at all local record shops. For bookings contact him at 072 786 8008.

After last year’s dreary festive season with dry taps, will water be flowing this Christmas in Makhado (Louis Trichardt)?

The municipal manager of Vhembe District Municipality (VDM), Mr Masala Makhumule, said with cautious optimism that the situation will be better than last year.

“The Albasini plant is pumping very well at the moment and Mowkop reservoir is 75% full. We have confidence that, in terms of pumping, and if we don’t have any disruptions, we expect a much better situation this Christmas,” Makhumule said on Thursday.

Extra measures to get closer to a consistent wa-ter supply to town were agreed upon between the VDM and AfriForum at an important meeting be-tween the two parties in Pretoria on 26 November.

“Vhembe agreed to send us an action plan on how they are going to tackle the challenges. We reserve our right to approach the court in the event that Vhembe does not effectively implement their action plan,” said AfriForum attorney Werner Human on Tuesday.

“I believe that the court order as it stands is not enough to bring water flowing consistently to town and that is why I have asked for these urgent extra conditions to be accepted by Vhembe,” said Mr Wally Schultz, chairperson of AfriForum Louis Trichardt.

The meeting took place at the request of the VDM to establish whether they had complied with the High Court order or not and to discuss the way forward.

It was established by mutual agreement that while the VDM had made significant progress in complying with the court order and its final demand that consistent water flow to town, there were still many challenges that needed urgent attention before AfriForum could even consider suspending the court order.

The VDM’s action plan should address several important aspects:

*There should be an “Action Repair Plan”, following on a full inspection tour of all wa-ter-related facilities. The VDM agreed to com-

plete an inspection tour of all pump stations, boreholes and related facilities to assess their condition. Their state and the detailed actions required to repair them should be submitted in

a report to AfriForum.*Urgent action with regard to the 14 boreholes

southwest of the town is required. These boreholes supply the “old town” with water. “The situation had reached intolerable levels. Due to the dysfunc-tional boreholes where, at times, not one of the 14 boreholes was in working order, residents in this part of town have endured an interrupted water supply for months,” Schultz said

*Security is one of the most pressing issues. The situation of theft and vandalism has reached unacceptable proportions and has primarily been responsible for the continuing dysfunction of the old borehole network.

Makhumule agreed that the telemetric security option was going to be implemented as a matter of urgency.

* An effective alternative water supply to the reservoirs has to be established to operate during the times that the pump station at the Albasini dam has to be shut down.

“Because the existing pipeline from Albasini is an ageing one, there could be ongoing leaks on the line which would require a shut-down of the Albasini pump station, which in actual fact has in recent weeks lasted up to ten days,” Schultz said. The two parties agreed that it was an intolerable situation that residents in town did not have any water because of a lack of an alternative supply. AfriForum suggested bringing the four new bore-holes into the system – or to drill new boreholes close to all the existing reservoirs.

“This will ensure that, when expected leaks occur on the ageing pipeline and the pump station at Albasini has to be shut down, the boreholes will supplement the supply to the reservoirs and there will be no interruption to the water flow,” Schultz said.

The court order by the North Gauteng High Court obtained on 2 October last year addresses issues like the debushing of the Albasini pipeline, the drilling of four new boreholes in town and the communication of water supply interruptions. According to the order, there should be a consis-tent water supply from 04:00 to 10:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00.

VDM’s lawyer, Mr David Mulaudzi, said on Thursday that Vhembe’s action plan was ready and would be sent.

The plan will be scrutinized by Schultz and his deputy chairperson, Mr Duncan Campbell, an experienced engineer, and added to if necessary.

A resident of Bubi village out-side Beit Bridge will spend the next 20 years in jail, after he was convicted of raping and impregnating his 13-year-old daughter.

The 44-year old man was arrested early last week after it was discovered that his daughter was fi ve months pregnant.

He pleaded guilty to a rape charge when he appeared before Regional Magistrate Morgan

Nemadire.His trial was fast-tracked after

he admitted during the recording of his statement by the investigat-ing offi cer that he was responsi-ble for the pregnancy of his own daughter.

It was testifi ed that sometime in June, the man was left with his daughter at their homestead by his wife, who attended a funeral in a neighbouring village. During the night, he had sex with his

daughter. The court heard that the man had told his daughter that they should share blankets due to the cold weather.

However, he had sex with his daughter twice.

The daughter recently com-plained of stomach pains and was taken to a clinic by her mother. Tests revealed that she was fi ve months pregnant. She later opened up to her mother that she had been raped by her father.

20 Years for raping his own daughter

The 75th birthday celebration of Ms Kesentseng Belitinah Ligaraba, commonly known as Mavis, turned into a public lecture on how to lead a long life. It was attended by well-known personalities, such as veteran politician Dr Tshenuwani Farisani, Limpopo Arts and Culture MEC Merriam Ramadwa, directors and managers of different companies from around the country and councillors from the area. She hails from Maniini and is known for her generosity. She has helped countless people in the community and did not derive any pleasure from seeing people suffer. She assisted children who needed uniforms and whenever she went to Gauteng, she would bring bundles of clothing just to give to the poor. Her birthday was celebrated at the Sasol Garage in Thohoyandou last weekend. Gogo Ligaraba is in the centre of our photo, surrounded by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren during the party.

Musina Mayor Carol Phiri led a candle-lighting ceremony to honour former president Nelson Mandela at the Musina-Nancefi eld Community Hall on Saturday. In our photograph, a member of the Limpopo Legislature, Ms Lorraine Luvhengo, Cllr Phiri, former mayor of Musina Caroline Mahasela and Cllr Fistos Mafela prepare to sign the condolence book.

Dressed in the South African fl ag regalia, the Musina Gogo Getters pay their last respects to Mr Nelson Mandela.

Pleae note: This is the last edition of the Limpop Mirror for 2013. Our offi ces will open again on the 6th of January 2014

A cloud of sadness hangs over the Rammbuda tribal community outside Mutale, following the death of Thovhele Azwihangwisi thu ha Rammbuda on Thursday.

He passed away in the Donald Fraser Hospital after a short illness.

The executive mayor of Vhembe District, Cllr Tshitereke Matibe, said he was saddened by the passing away of Thovhele Azwihangwisi Rammbu-da and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the next-of-kin of one of the senior traditional leaders in the Vhembe District. Family spokesperson Mr Phusuphusu Rammbuda said he was a traditional leader who loved all the people within his juris-diction.

Thovhele Muthu ha thonwi Rammbuda (63) was crowned as the senior traditional leader of Rammbuda in 1994. He succeeded Thovhele John Ratshilumela Rammbuda, who died in 1993. Thovhele Rammbuda was also the chairperson of the Ha-Rammbuda mental illness health project.

The funeral is scheduled to be held in Zwien-delulu-zwa Ha-Rammbuda on Friday.

Hosi Busa Nxumalo, chairperson of the Vhembe House of Traditional Leaders, said that the untimely death of Thovhele Rammbuda was a great loss to them as traditional leaders and the community at large.

No proper housing for struggling family of fourA mother and her three children have been without a roof over their heads ever since their four-roomed RDP house collapsed during a storm in 2010.

The incident happened during the night of 25 October 2010 in Munzhedzi village, near Elim, when the unemployed Ms Suzan Gadisi (45) and her children were fast asleep. “I reported the matter to the local satellite offi ce of the Makhado

Municipality in Vleifontein immediately after the incident,” she said.

An offi cial visited her home to assess the damage in the same week and recorded the damage. “He said he would take the matter to the municipality to see that my house was rebuilt, but I have been waiting since that time,” said a disappointed Ga-disi. After a year of fruitless waiting, she decided to report her case to the Makhado

Municipality. “They are not helping ei-ther,” she worried. All three her children, aged 27, 25 and 15, are currently living with relatives because there is no place to stay at their home.

Gadisi lives in a tiny shack, which is also riddled with holes, so that anybody can see outside from inside the shelter. “I live in fear that this shack can fall on me at any moment. My life is a misery,”

Boy (8) drowns while swimmingAn eight-year-old boy from Shashe village outside Beit Bridge drowned while swimming with his friends in a dam.

Police spokesperson Insp Philisani Ndebele said the incident took place on Friday a fortnight ago. The victim was identifi ed as Qiniso Ndlovu.

The incident happened around 13:00, when the boys were playing on the edge of the Sehuda Dam. He was in the company of his friends,

Mayibongwe Ndlovu and Trymore Sibanda, both aged 11.

“The three boys were playing in the shallow waters of the dam when Qiniso suddenly drifted into the deeper end and eventually drowned,” said Ndebele.

When his friends realised that Qin-iso was drowning, they alerted elders as none of his friends could swim. By the time help arrived, the boy had already drowned.

she said.Ms Gadisi’s neigh-

bour, Mr Joseph Mu-vhumbe, said Gadisi’s situation was heart-breaking. “Last year, new RDP houses were built at Munzhedzi vil-lage and the Vleifoun-tein area, but nothing was allocated to the homeless family,” said Muvhumbe. “Is this what Gadisi voted for? Shame on you, Makha-do Municipality, for trampling on people’s human rights.”

Makhado Municipal-ity spokesperson Mr Louis Bobodi indicated that neither the munici-pality nor the Vleifon-tein offi ce had received a report of the disaster from Gadisi. However, he added that Ms Ga-disi’s name has now been submitted to the provincial department which deals with hous-ing matters to consider her problem.Ms Suzan Gadisi sits on the slab foundation of her collapsed RDP house.

erative, said it was formed in 1999 by unemployed community members. The cooperative has created 16 jobs.

“We are the only company processing and manufacturing peanut butter in Limpopo. We were also declared as 2012 provincial winners of the productivity award,” said Vhulahani.

“We are excited about the funds we have re-ceived from the department, which will help our company to grow.”

The Tshakhuma Achaar Primary Cooperative started in 2006 and now has seven members. Mr Patrick Mathavhana, the project manager, said they received green mangoes from community members “and some of our members, from their orchards, and we can smile all the way to the bank, especially this season.”

Carving his way to economic freedom

A 24-year-old Zimbabwean, Giv-en Mpofu, and his two co-ac-cused, Ndulani Menukula (23) and Courage Shoko (23), appeared in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court for a bail application last Friday.

Their case was postponed to 10 January next year, for investigators to check if the accused could be linked to other cases which happened in the po-licing area, and for the accused to seek the assistance of legal representatives.

The three accused were arrested while allegedly attempting to rob two houses at Gogobole village in the Sinthumule area on 27 November.

The accused, along with other two

suspects who have evaded arrest, had reportedly been terrorising the resi-dents and businesspeople at Tshikota and Sinthumule. Mpofu is reportedly the suspect who had angered the res-idents of Tshikota after he was said to have been a leader of a group of “illegal immigrants and criminals” who were terrorising the residents.

According to Col Ronel Otto of the Limpopo Police, Mpofu has been linked to at least 14 cases, including house robbery, housebreaking, rob-bery with a weapon or instrument other than a firearm, murder, posses-sion of suspected stolen goods, assault with intent to do grievious bodily harm, and common robbery.

The Department of Trade and Industry has urged cooperative projects around the Vhembe region to grow and expand their businesses, so that they will be able to help create jobs in the communities.

“We want the cooperatives that we are funding to grow and assist our communities in terms of job creation. We are also proud of products produced by our local companies such as Thohoyandou Peanut Butter Produce and the Tshakhuma Achaar Primary Cooperative,” said Mr Bongani Lukhele, spokesperson for the department. He was speak-ing in Thohoyandou last Wednesday, during the department’s site visit to some enterprises it has been funding in the Vhembe region.

The Tshakhuma Achaar Primary Coopera-tive in Lwamondo was funded to the value of more than R300 000, while the Thohoyandou Peanut Butter Produce Co-operative, based in Shayandima, received more than R133 000.

A young Zimbabwean man who has been battling to make ends meet found a way to fend for himself and his family by carving ironing boards.

Mr Leo Mavhura (32) of Ma-kumeke village in Malamulele used to do piece jobs to earn a living, but the returns were far too low for him to survive with his family. The young man, who has a wife and two children, was frustrated and did not know what to do to improve his life and give himself financial freedom. After careful research, he started his own business.

“The problem is that I didn’t have enough money to start a big business, so I had to think

of something that wouldn’t de-mand too much capital and ironing boards came in handy. My friends were making ironing boards and I thought I could ven-ture into it. No one was, however, willing to teach me how to make them,” said Mavhura.

Deteremined to make it, Mavhura went to a store to buy an ironing board so that he could get the measurements and copy how it was done. “I bought material and made one and even though it wasn’t perfect, it gave me hope that I would be able to do it. I made a few and started selling them at a busy road where most cars pass,” he added.

He says that the support from

customers was so amazing that he would sell more than five a week, which means he pocketed more than R1 000, as he sells them for between R200 and R300. “My ironing boards are strong as they are made from wood and I use a sponge and colourful cloth that people like,” he added.

Now, two years later, Mavhura also sells his ironing boards that are made from wood to hawkers who buy in bulk and sell them as far as Mpumalanga. “My life has stabilized, and I have big dreams of owning a big factory one day that will employ others.”

Those wishing to order or seek advice can do so by phoning him at 073 776 4210.

Less air-conditioning... more airYou’ve worked hard all year long; the time has arrived to unwind, switch off, recharge, and give your electricity usage a break too when you check into your favourite hotel or lodge or B&B.

Help keep South Africa powered up this holiday season by doing the following in your room:

l Switch off electrical appliances such as televisions, cell phone chargers and laptops when you are not using it.

l Switch off appliances in standby mode – ‘standby’ uses almost 50% of the energy an electrical appliance would normally use.

l Switch off all lights when you leave your room.l Switch off the air-conditioner when you don’t need it; open

windows to allow cool air coming in from the outside - if it’s necessary to switch on the air-conditioner, a temperature setting of 23° is sufficient.

l Shower instead of taking a bath; it uses less hot water.

l If you need hot water plug the basin; don’t leave the hot taps running.

l Don’t open the bar fridge unnecessarily or leave the door open too long; if you do, warm air flows in and causes the fridge to use more electricity to maintain the correct temperature.

l Only fill the kettle with as much water as you need for your morning cup of tea or coffee.

Less is more... the less electricity you use the more energy efficient your holiday will be.

Despite several service delivery riots in recent times in the Thulamela area, the municipality was named the best municipality in the environ-mental category during the provincial Kamoso Awards. The awards were presented by the Department of Public Works in Polokwane two weeks ago.

Thulamela Municipality’s manager of environ-ment and waste management, Mmbulungeni Madi, said the municipality followed environmentally friendly policies and had even been declared an eco-town – a town that facilitates a lifestyle that has as little impact on the environment as possible.

He said the municipality worked hard to imple-ment environmental and cultural projects as part of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). “We have created approximately 750 job oppor-tunities in our environmental section. Thulamela was also crowned the best in the greening category in the Vhembe district. At provincial level, we took the third position in the greening category. We conduct our business in an environmentally friendly way,” he said.

“We are increasing refuse-removal services to the rural areas. We have installed 1 200 dustbins in our municipality and we are still going to add some more,” Madi said.

Public works MEC Dickson Masemola said the municipality should keep up its environmentally friendly work.

Thulamela is tops

“Educate community on spread of Aids”Millions of people who died of Aids-related illnesses around the world were remembered during the Aids awareness campaign that was held at the Beit Bridge border post. The campaign was mostly targeted at long-distance travellers and thousands of truck drivers who cross the border on a daily basis.

Mayor Carol Phiri said HIV and Aids was one of the biggest challenges facing the commu-nities.

She said individuals, families and communities were affected badly by the epidemic.

“The burden of care falls on the families and children of those who are ill.

Often, they have already lost a breadwinner and the meagre resources they have left are not enough to provide care for the ill person and food for the family.”

She said although Aids had become very common, it was still surrounded by silence.

“People are ashamed to speak about being infected and many see it as a scandal when it hap-pens in their families.

People living with Aids are

exposed to daily prejudice, born out of ignorance and fear.

We cannot tackle this epidemic unless we can break the silence and remove the stigma that sur-rounds it.

As leaders in our communities we have to provide leadership on how to deal with Aids.”

Cllr Lucas Manyuha from Vhembe District Municipality said the fight against Aids had to happen on two main fronts - prevention and care.

“To prevent the spread of Aids, we have to educate people on how to prevent infection. We also have to change the so-cial attitudes that make women vulnerable because they cannot refuse unsafe sex from a part-ner and the at-titudes among men that lead to the abusing and raping of women. Pov-erty alleviation and develop-ment are also i m p o r t a n t programmes that will limit the spread of

Aids.”Former Orlando Pirates star

Edward ‘Magents’ Motale said it was also the responsibility of every individual to support the fight against Aids.

“The disease affects millions of South Africans.

This means that we have to make it easier for people to be open, to go for tests and to seek care.

We have to treat it as an illness and not a scandal that has to be kept secret.

We have to create an environ-ment where communities become more caring towards people living with Aids and orphans and we all take responsibility for education around prevention.”

Cllr Dick Muditambi (Vhembe District Municipality), Musina Mayor Carol Phiri and Cllr Lucas Manyuha light candles to remembers millions of people who have died from Aids-related illnesses around the world.

Radzambo school needs toilets and classes

R6,6 million to repair town’s intersections

Pupils of Radzambo High School in Matsila village are forced to use the bushes when they want to relieve themselves.

The ablution block at the school is dilapidated and when Limpopo Mirror recently visited the school, the pupils said it was not safe to use.

“All we need is an ablution block and classes to accom-modate our children,” said the chairperson of the school gov-erning body (SGB), Mr Elvis Ndlovu. “We have applied many times to the department for toi-lets and classes, but our pleas have not yielded any fruits.” Ndlovu said that mobile toilets

and classrooms could alleviate the situation as the lack of toilets is a matter that requires urgent attention.

“Either that or else govern-ment must build toilets for our children.”

During the rainy season, the toilets are flooded and the cracked walls can fall over at any time, the pupils said.

A DA councillor, Mr Itani Sikwari, said it was shocking and disappointing that after 19 years of democracy, children were still attending classes un-der a tree. “We called upon the Department of Education for an urgent intervention and to

build toilets and classrooms for Radzambo School. A nation that does not invest in the education of its children is a dying nation,” he added.

The principal of the school, Ms Fhulufhelo Madzivhandila, did not want to speak to the press. The spokesperson for the Department of Education, Mr Phuthi Seloba, said that there was a huge backlog.

Many schools around the prov-ince were without proper toilets and classes, he said. He added that they had already submitted a report to the relevant department and that they were still waiting for a response.

De Beers Venetia Mine has committed R6.6 million to assist the Musina Local Munic-ipality to repair and improve 11 road intersections in and around Musina.

The Road Intersection Inter-vention Project forms part of Ve-netia mine’s Social Labour Plan and stems from a strong partner-ship between Venetia Mine and the Musina Municipality and extensive engagement regarding the significant deterioration of local roads.

To cultivate skills in the com-munity and build capacity, De Beers made use of a contractor

model in which an experienced, international contractor partnered with a smaller, black-owned provincial business based in Tho-hoyandou. The project provides mentorship to 10 employees from the selected local supplier and created 17 additional temporary jobs for local residents.

The Musina Road Intersection Intervention Project is currently in progress, with work on eight of the intersections, including the corners of Whyte Road and National Road, Paul Mills and Sterkbos and Elias Muthuvhele in Nancefield, already underway. With the additional three inter-

sections scheduled for January, Venetia Mine and the local contractors hope to complete the project within the first quarter of 2014.

When speaking about the proj-ect, Public and Corporate Affairs Manager Josephine Pieters said, “The Musina Road Intersection Intervention Project is a means of uplifting our community and improving the quality of life for the residents of Musina. We are committed to leaving a real and lasting legacy in the communities in which we operate and, as such, we are proud to partner with local government on this project.”

Local farmers must “upgrade”The executive mayor of Vhembe District Municipality, Cllr Tshit-ereke Matibe, has urged farmers in the region to upgrade from being subsistence to becoming commer-cial farmers, to help fight poverty and unemployment.

“Agriculture is the economic en-gine in the Vhembe district and our region is the food basket of our province and the entire country. We must ensure that the necessary re-sources are available to help emerging farmers to grow to be commercial farmers,” said Matibe.

He was speaking in the Tshifula-nani Stadium a fortnight ago, during an information-sharing programme intended to identify farmers who can be supported in the transition from subsistence into commercial farmers and to provide an opportunity for farmers to expose and showcase their products.

The programme is also supported by the University of Venda and the Association of Farmers in South Af-rica (AFASA). “The district munic-ipality has signed a memorandum of understanding between the University

of Venda, the Vhembe FET and the Madzivhandila Agricultural College, aimed at improving the skills capac-ity of farmers through training and mentoring. We are urge traditional leaders to support farmers by making land available to farmers,” he added.

The president of AFASA in Vhem-be, Mr Tshianeo Mathidi, said his farmers needed access to land and entrepreneurial skills development, as well as access to markets and financial assistance.

“We encourage our farmers to work in groups and develop co-operatives for doing better business. We will facilitate our farmers in order to in-crease their meaningful participation in commercial agriculture,” Mathidi added.

A successful commercial farmer, Dr Nthuseni Nesane, urged farmers to work hard, so that the region can pro-duce more food and also help to create jobs for the communities. He farms at Nwanedi near Musina and currently employs more than 300 workers on his farm. “Farming needs someone who is a hard worker and committed to the job,” he added.

Photographed during the event are, from left to right, AFASA president in the Vhembe region Mr Tshianeo Mathidi, Vhembe District Executive Mayor Cllr Tshitereke Matibe, Thovhele Calvin Nelwamondo and Cllr Shadrack Maluleke with some of the vegetables produced by Vhembe farmers.

Fighting crime and ensuring safety in the community requires great team work and dedication. Mutual understanding and co-operation between communities and police officials can eradicate the scourge of crime. In an effort to strengthen interaction between police officials, the SAPS in the Vhembe region recently hosted a potjiekos district competition at the Makhado show grounds. Several participants competed in numerous activities, including African tradition and western tradition. In our photo, some of the police officials were singing songs while they exhibited their work. The hut is one of the stalls exhibited during the competition.

Poets: Nwedziboy na Muvhango.

The release of a groundbreaking poetry sound project by two young voices marks the beginning of new era in the Vhembe poetry platform.

The duo, Nwedziboy na Muvhango, whose real names are Elekanyani Ranwedzi (28) and Luambo Mu-vhango (25), hopes to stand the test of the time with the release of their new album, Vhonani sialala ya vhorine.

The 11-track album, even though it's their second project, launches the poets as new voices worth listening to in that they try to remain themselves and stay away from imitating poets who preceded them. “We recite po-ems about the beauty of our district and our province,” says Muvhango.

On Zwamulovha zwoyafhi, the poets remind the listeners to reclaim their culture and African values from the quagmire of modern life which has Western influences. They moti-vate the youth and instil a sense of taking education seriously.

“Education is the key to locked

doors in this world,” Nwedziboy shares. A media studies student at the University of Venda and a resident of Duthuni near Thohoyandou, Nwedzi-boy adds that he cannot imagine what life would have been without the use of words. “Poetry is life – it has all aspects of life contained in one pot.”

The art of the spoken word had seen Nwedziboy, who is the father of 20-month-old Wandeme, being featured on SABC's La Familia show as a focus poet on 25 February 2012. “I was motivated by one Owen Mue-bi to take my poetry seriously,” he acknowledges. Poet Muvhango was born in Tshisisi near Sibasa, and is currently a mathematics lecturer at Professional FET College. “I started singing in a church choir at the tender age of 11 in 1999,” he says. “I know that one line on a poem can say what even five pages in prose can hardly reveal. That's what I like about the language of poetry.”

House music festival at Ha-Damasi

Fun and music at Big Tree on Christmas

DJ Kuniyuki Takahashi will perform for the first time in South African during the 15th annual GumbaFire 2013 House Music Festival at the Mutswir-iri Cultural Centre in Ha-Du-masi. It will take place next

Saturday, 21 December. The event will provide more

than 15 hours of deep-house music in all its forms. At least 15 DJs and live acts will entertain an estimated minimum of 10 000 deep-house music fans.

Further information and up-dates on the event can be found on the Facebook page Gumba-FireSA and on twitter @Gum-baFireSA (hashtag #GumbaFi-reXV) or visit www.gumbafiresa.co.za.

The people of Zwigodini in the Niani area will be treated royally when famous entertainers descend on their little village to celebrate the arrival of the festive season in style.

Zwigodini village is the home of The Big Tree - the world’s biggest and oldest Baobab tree, which is estimated to be more than 3 000 years old, with a base circumference of 43 meters.

The celebration will be in the form of a music festival, which will take place at the Big Tree Hol-iday Lodge on Christmas Eve (24 December). Big names who will perform during the event include David Mmbi, Killer Gee, Jininka, Humbulani Ramagwedzha, McKleker featuring Tshibulebule, Coolfelo, Bhamba, Remzee, Just Ice, Virgi M, Manyisa, DJ Nipro and Dan Junior. KK of Mu-vhango fame and Mr Bundu of Tshovhilingani will be directing the programme.

The organizer of the event, Takie Makhado, said it was important to take the event to the far northern part of the province because people there were entertainment thirsty. “Most of the people there only hear their role models on radio or watch them on TV, but we want to build a close and personal relationship between these entertainers and their fans in rural areas. Few music festivals take place in these areas and it is important to make these people feel that they are appreciated like other community members in suburbs and towns.”

Makhado said preparations for the much-awaited historic event had been finalized. “Security will be very tight and no bottles will be allowed because we want our people to enjoy this special event without any worries. All logistical arrangements have been finalized and we are only waiting for the big day. Community members will also have the opportunity to buy the music of their favourite artists, which will be available at the spot. Entry tickets will be available at R70 and gates will open at 13:00 on 24 December. For more information, call me at 072 054 7549.”

Jeannette Nkanyane, aka Jininka, is one of the top artists billed to perform. “I will use the oppor-

tunity to promote my new album, Ndi Lwendoni, and I will also entertain my fans with my previ-ous offerings like Love Life, Ndi Muvenda and Zwavhuhadzi. I urge people to come in large numbers to see me live because it will be my first time to perform in this part of Vhembe. It will defi-nitely be one of the biggest shows to remember.”

Reggae legend Humbulani Ramagwedzha (left) and AfroPop diva Jininka are some of the top artists who will perform at Zwigodini village next Tuesday (24 December).

In happier times … A dedicated municipal worker, Fhatuwani Raymond Munyai, tests one of the digital doorway computer systems at Madimbo Thusong Service Centre. He was recently buried at Madimbo village.

Dedicated Thusong official passes awayHundreds of Musina Municipality’s workers joined the community of Madimbo and the sur-rounding villages in mourning one of the loyal municipal workers who served his community with diligence and dedication.

Raymond Fhatuwani Munyai (38), an official attached to the Madimbo Thusong Service Centre of Musina Municipality, recently passed away after a short illness. The staunch member of the ANC was buried at Madimbo during an emotional but dignified funeral service.

During his lifetime, Munyai successfully alternated between his role as a civil servant, farmer, politician, emerging entrepreneur and a family man.

Speaking on behalf of Musina Municipality during the funeral service, Municipal Manager Johnson Matshivha praised Munyai for contrib-uting to efficient service delivery for the people of Musina. “Our hearts are bleeding because Munyai was one of the people who worked hard to make sure that the people of Madimbo and the surround-ing villages got the services they deserved. It will be very difficult to replace him, but we console ourselves with the fact that we have to pick up the spear of service delivery and continue where he left off since he joined the municipality in 2005.”

Matshivha said the municipality prided itself on its work force and it was painful to lose even one of them. “On behalf of the municipality, we send deepest condolences to the Munyai family and all the people who had the pleasure of knowing our late brother. May his soul rest in peace!”

Family representative Philemon Munyai thanked the municipality and all the people

who had given the family comfort throughout the morning period. “We accept that our family member is gone and it hurts us. The comfort we got from all of you is overwhelming. This displays that Raymond was a people’s person and we are happy that he had made countless friends during his lifetime. God is the only one who knows why He took Raymond away.”

Other speakers who paid their tribute during the funeral included Ms Johanna Scholtz, who represented the farmers, and Mr Aifheli Munyai, who represented local businesspeople.

More accolades for Marubini

Chief Jerry donates clothesas an honour to Madiba

Well-known maths teacher Freddy Marubini’s star is continuing to shine.

Marubini has won countless awards at school, circuit, district and provincial level. He teaches maths at the high-riding Thengwe Secondary School, which has maintained a 100% pass rate in maths for years.

A fortnight ago, he scooped the provincial honours during the na-tional teachers awards, when he won the new category: Excellence in maths teaching. For his efforts, the 43-year-old teacher from Makwarela extension outside Thohoyandou has received a laptop computer, a certif-icate and a trophy and he will also represent the province nationally.

The awards ceremony took place in Polokwane.

The dedicated Maru-bini, who started extra classes and competi-tions to encourage the pupils at his school, said he was “more than motivated. We work extra hard in order to get the best out of our pu-pils and when the good results are out, nothing is said about us and the pupils are the ones who bask in the limelight. I am so humbled by this award,” said Marubini.

He said when he ar-rived at Thengwe in 2003, maths results were not that good and when he was given the opportunity to teach

mathematics, he came up with a turnaround strategy which saw him improving the results each year since then. “Through our efforts, our school has been a member of the elite Club 100 for many years now. I also derive pleasure from seeing that many of our pupils are succeeding in their respective fields and making an impact in the country. This makes me even happier and being honoured in this fashion is a bonus to me,” added Marubini.

He said his secret for success was his relationship with the pupils he was teaching, the love of his work and being ready for all challenges at all times.

Marubini also assists pupils in preparing for their exams with pro-grammes on different SABC radio stations.

A proud Mr Freddy Marubini, photographed with his awards.

Christmas arrived early for the residents of Muledane when Chief Jerry Tshikororo surprised his people by he handing over uniforms to school children.

The event took place on Sunday, when the funeral of political icon and South Africa’s first democratically elected president, Nelson Mandela, was progressing. “Madiba loved children and always encouraged ed-ucation. We felt that, as we did not have the chance to go and bury him in Qunu, we could still do something and start propagating his legacy in line with his vision of showing love and encouraging children.”

Tshikororo said he was trying to build the self-esteem of the children, some of whom look down upon them-selves because they cannot afford school uniforms. “Children are the

future of this country and we encour-age them that, irrespective of their background, they can still achieve their dreams,” he added.

He indicated that they are also planning bursaries for disadvantaged children.

“No child should have an excuse of not going to school because there is no money. With the help of our sponsors, who have shown willingness to help, we will attain this dream,” added Tshikororo.

One of the recipients, Rendani Mudau, a pupil at Dimani Secondary School, said she was surprised and excited. “The chief so serious about education. We used to know tradition-al leaders who always wanted gifts from their subjects and did not give back to them. We are very motivat-ed,” she said.

Happiness is receiving a new pair of shoes. Here Chief Tshikororo assists one of the children in putting on a new pair of shoes.

Chief Jerry Tshikororo (centre), his royal council and the happy kids and parents pose for a photo.

MAKHADO LOCAL MUNICIPALITY

Grade R and Grade 1 pupils from Khavhatondiwe Academy School in Madombidzha Zone 2 were awarded certificates during the school’s year-end function a fortnight ago. With the pupils is a teacher, Ms Modester Chingombe.

At least 90 individuals from non-profit-organisations that focus on community health and public awareness on diseases such as HIV/AIDS, as well as social auxiliary workers were awarded with certificates after completing a one-year pro-gramme.

The ceremony was held recent-ly at the Thohoyandou Arts and Culture and Sports Centre.

The guest speaker, Dr Ma-kondelele Makatu, encouraged graduates to make use of the knowledge they gained from completing the programmes. She warned that graduates must not think that they are above the people who come to seek help in

their home-based organisations because they now have certif-icates.

“Be down-to-earth and always approachable,” she said. “You were equipped with the skills so that you may know how to deal with your clients when they visit your offices.”

Tendazwau Trading 8’s chair-person, Mr Phillip Mabasa, said that as service providers, they sought funds from the Health and Welfare SETA to train commu-nity-based workers. During the learnership, the learners get a reasonable stipend and a once-off uniform allowance.

“We experienced six drop-outs, but we were nonetheless

able to reach our goal of having community-based workers gain skills successfully,” Mabasa said. “These qualified individuals will now use the skills which we provided to better their projects while working in their different communities.”

The 70-year-old Mr Takalani Madipa also participated the year-long programme and was awarded a certificate in com-munity health work. Madipa is attached to the Bono Self-Help Project at Tshisahulu-Itsani, which caters for sick people in the village. “I gained knowledge which added to my auxiliary health care programme qualifi-cation,” said Madipa.

Some of the members who received certificates after completing different programmes on community development.

The 41-year-old Doris Mthembi will spend Christmas behind bars this year.

Doris Mthembi, photographed during her sentencing in November this year.

Mthembi, who started serving her six-year prison sentence at the beginning of November, appeared in the Louis Trichardt Regional Court on Tuesday to bring a leave-to-appeal application. She was appealing her direct imprisonment sentence that was imposed on her by the court after being found guilty of perjury.

Mthembi lied to the police when she accused her ex-husband, Mr Goddard Tendani Mugwena, of kidnapping and raping her.

On Tuesday last week, Mthembi’s lawyer in-formed the court that he was still waiting for court records to be transcribed and therefore could not submit a complete application. The application will allegedly argue that the court sentenced Mthembi on false evidence.

Mthembi’s lawyer also brought a bail appli-cation, arguing that the court records could take months to be transcribed and that it would be an infringement of Mthembi’s human rights to have her wait for the court records.

The court dismissed the bail application and said that Mthembi could only ask for bail when and if leave to appeal her sentence had been granted.

Mthembi was ordered back to jail and her case was postponed until 16 January next year to afford the court time to finish their transcription work.

“Working together, we have done better”

Makhado Municipal Manager Mr Isaac Mutshinyali. Photo supplied.

The municipal manager of the Makhado Municipality, Mr Isaac Mutshinyali, took the opportunity this week to convey his end-of-year and Christmas message and wishes to residents of the Soutpansberg region.

“I wish to take this opportunity to express gratitude to the people of Makhado Municipality, particularly Mayor Cllr David Mutavhatsindi, for having afforded me the opportunity to become your municipal manager,” said Mutshinyali.

Mutshinyali, better known as Sakkie among res-idents, also took a moment to reflect on the passing of South Africa's first black president, Mr Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, for emancipating the country and making it conceivable that a black person be given an opportunity to head the government administratively.

“May his soul rest in peace. It is because of this opportunity that black people have proven beyond reservation that they can govern and govern better,” said Mutshinyali.

As part of his Christmas message, Mutshinyali expressed his gratitude towards his colleagues within the municipal management and broader staff for their dedicated team efforts during the year. “Working together, we have done better.” Due to their hard work, said Mutshinyali, the Makhado Municipality was able to implement all their action plans towards becoming a viable financial insti-tution effectively.“We have both [politicians and administrators] made it possible to move away from the recurring 13 years of disclaimers to the present

Qualification Opinion in 2012/13. However, it is imperative for us to remember that we have not yet arrived; we should be looking forward for a clean audit, and this is possible, provided we endure working together.

“Finally, I take this opportunity to wish all people of Makhado Municipal area a safe, merry Christmas and a happy New Year. May God bless you.”

The Family Violence Children Protection and Sexual Offences Unit of the Makhado SAPS was given the award as the best detective group in Limpopo for the year 2012/13. The SAPS Limpopo inaugural Prestige Awards took place in Polokwane on Friday, 29 November. In front, from left to right, are the local unit members D/Const Mokgadi Mamukhwana, Capt Danelle Fourie, D/Const Bologo Luvhani and D/Const Rasilabi Tshimangadzo. At the back are detective W/O Mpfuni Mpho, detective W/O Daniel Ligege, D/Lt Thomas Niruna and detective W/O Samuel Thovhakale. Absent were detective W/O Fanie Mynhardt, Thomas Masonono and Charles Ralebona.

Cllr Carol Phiri, mayor of the Musina Municipality.

It is that time of the year to reap the fruits of our hard labour since the beginning of the year. Some of us could not attain our goals of the year because of different reasons. To those who did not achieve their goals, this is the time to start afresh while rectifying mistakes of the past.

One of the most important ingredients of achieving our goals is effective time manage-ment. The greatest single time management tool is to set clearly defined goals.

This gives focus and direction to planning and facilitates the establishment of priorities. Effec-tive self-management will allow you to feel positive and achieve a state of balance and harmony in mind, body and soul.

The first step for effective time management is to be aware of how you presently use your time. Keeping a record of how you spend each hour of the day is extremely useful.

This will help you gain insight into your current patterns of time management. After a week or two, you can look back and see if you have kept your schedule, kept the appointments with your-self, or whether you have allowed other things to intrude.

The more effectively you structure your working time, the more leisure time you will have available.

By creating an action plan, you are providing the blueprint or map which will lead towards the culmination of your dreams. Suc-cessful people realize this and are prepared to invest in themselves by spending their time doing the most important things first and the less important last.

In your year planner, mark important dates such as major events, project deadlines, strate-gic planning, holidays and other relevant information.

Know your priorities. We are

all limited in the amount of time, energy and resources that we have. By being aware of your top priorities, you will be able to utilize all of your resources effectively.

Each day, ask yourself: What are the most important things I need to do today? What is their order of importance? Do I have deadlines to meet? Am I able to readjust my schedule for unexpected crises, interruptions, telephone calls and other time consumers? Am I acting on my identified goals? What can I do to eliminate or decrease things that waste my time? Do I have realistic expectations? Have I allowed time for myself, my fam-ily and friends? One of the big-gest obstacles to effective time management is procrastination. Whenever you are tempted to put something off, be totally com-mitted to acting immediately. Be conscious of time-consuming tasks that are not really produc-tive. Learn the art of delegation.

This allows you extra time for high-priority tasks.

I hope we can all enjoy the festive season with warm hearts and humanity. Even though we had some challenges this year, we must never give up hold-ing on to the future.

People from far and near will be travel-ling back home for Christmas. Let’s all Ar-r i v e A l i v e . Long-distance drivers should take a break. Don’t dr ink a n d d r i v e . Let’s al l be responsible . Drivers must obey and ob-serve the rules

the road to reach their destina-tions safely.

Let’s not forget to use water and electricity wisely. By pay-ing your accounts for water and electricity, you will be setting a good example to your neighbour that municipal development is about paying our bills.

To those who are still at school I say: Hold on because education is the only key to success. I would like to congratulate all who had passed their grades to the next level. I sympathize with all those who did not make it. Always know that it’s not the end of the world. To fail does not necessary mean that you are a failure. Tell yourself you will do better next time. Stand up and say I CAN and I WILL.

Parents and guardians, let us not spend all the money on Christmas and forget about the school fees next year.

Just put that small amount underneath your bed and forget about it. Remember it when the back-to-school campaign approaches.

May your Christmas be filled with happiness, joy and peace. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

“Enjoy the season with warm hearts...”

The managing director of Tanganani Driving School, Mr Mashudu Mufamadi, said sport had the power to create a good climate between business and people. “No wonder com-panies which sponsor football are going from strength to strength,"”he added.

Mr Elvis “Parks” Phathela, public relations officer of Sin-thumule/Kutama Community Sport Development, stated that it was important that future

stars' talent be identified at grassroots level. He applauded the sponsors for helping to identify the talent of the region's youth and added that the youth of this region should be proud of their talent.

The tournament aims to hon-our Mr Daniel Magwala, former president of Safa Northern Province (west region), for his dedication.

The winner of the compe-tition will receive R3 000, a floating trophy, new soccer kit and medals, while the runner-up will receive R2 000, a soccer kit and silver medals.

Sports administrator Norah Mudzielwana with her award.

Famous sports administrator Norah Mudzielwana (45) who was the first woman in the area to establish a ladies soccer team years ago, was finally honoured

for her selfless effort to im-prove sport in the rural areas.

Mudzielwana was among the many recipients from different sporting codes during a cere-

mony to hon-our those who c o n t r i b u t e d towards sports development in the Vhembe region. It was organised by the Vhembe FET College.

S t u d e n t s from the dif-ferent sporting codes at the college who excelled were also honoured during the oc-cassion.

The coordi-nator and orig-inator of the awards, Mr Ze-bulon Nelwa-mondo of the Vhembe FET, said the awards were meant to encourage and motivate those

involved in the development of sport. "We have some stu-dents who cannot perform well academically but who excel in sports. We felt that we should motivate them in one way or another that they take sports seriously and could make a professional living out of sport."

The guest speaker, well-known Limpopo businessman Dr Avha-sei Khomunala, urged the re-cipients not to look down upon themselves as they had embarked on a journey that could see them as political leaders and also as professional sport people. "To the people who were honoured here today, we say that this is a launching pad for your careers, and students from the different sporting codes could make a living out of sport."

Ms Mudzielwana, who started a women's team and a senior citizens team in Tshandama, said the award would motivate her to work even harder in developing sport."I am so excited. I have other awards, but this one is very special in that it is from a very distinguished institution like Vhembe FET College," she said. She is a teacher at the Luvhengo Secondary School.

The final of Musangwe tour-nament will be hosted by King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana at Dzata Museum on the 28th.

Musangwe boss Patrick Ra-marada said he was expecting thousands of people at the ring at this year's final.

He has called on all the fighters

to start preparing for this remark-able bare-knuckle competition. ”The fights were started by our ancestors and they are approved by local traditional leaders," Ramarada said.

Fighters Samuel Gotho, Pha-thutshedzo Chauke, Thakhani Netshiokho, Vhumbani Maanda,

Lufuno Rambauli, Fulufhelo Munyai, Takalani Nkhamane and Fhatuwani Netshanzhe said they were all ready for the tournament. Nkhamane said he believed in hard training for good results. “I don’t fear anyone. I believe in fighting the enemy until he conquers me or I conquer him.”

“Black Leopards are still on track”

The secret behind Maindis FC’s success

Thidiela family now also own Basel FC

With two matches remaining before the end of the National First Division League's first-round activities, the coach of Black Leopards, Mr Kostadin Papic, remains optimistic that his team is still on track to win the league championship at the end of the season.

Lidoda Duvha are currently lying in the fifth position on the log. The Thohoyandou outfit has collected 20 points from 13 outings to date.

They are nine points behind the log leaders, Milano United FC, whom they beat 2-1 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium two weeks ago.

Papic said that the fact that they were only five points be-hind the second-placed Chippa United was reason enough for them to believe that they would soon see themselves on top of the ladder. He was was quick to admit that the team started

the season on a bad footing, saying he was happy with the fact that they had finally found a winning combination. “Look, we have at last managed to win three league matches in a row,” he said.

Black Leopards will play against FC Cape Town (away) and Jomo Cosmos (home) to finish their round league pro-gramme.

When asked about the possi-bility of beefing up their current squad when the registration window for the players opens next month, Papic said that there was a need to strengthen their striking force and midfield with seasoned players.

He stressed the fact that their aim was to win an outright pro-motion to the Absa Premiership, instead of qualifying for the promotional play-offs.

The team that finishes the league programme on top of the

National First Division gains outright promotion to the elite league, while the second- and third-placed teams, together with the second-last team in the Absa Premiership, battle it out in the platinum promotional play-offs. The team that finishes on top of the three-team log also gets promotion to the country’s highest league.

Vasco da Gama and Santos are lying in the third and fourth positions on the log with 24 and 22 points respectively. Thanda Royal Zulu are languishing at the bottom of the log with only 6 points.

* Black Leopards will have a choice to play their home matches either at the Thohoy-andou or Makhuvha Stadium when they return from their fes-tive season recess next month.

They used the Seshego Sta-dium during the first half of the competition.

The Stream C leaders, United Artists.

Who will win the MMK title this year? The affiliates of the MMK Funeral Services League have played five league matches before going on their Christ-mas recess.

A quick glance at the log standings for the various streams brings the fact that the contest for the league title is tight under the spotlight. Thula M2, formerly known as Basel FC, currently lead the pack in Stream A.

Shigamani FC and Matsakali Sky Rangers are in the second and third places with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Mukula Young Santos are shining on top of Stream B with 13 points. Young Santos are still to lose a league match. They convincingly won four of the five matches they had

played to date and drew one. Tshidzini Happy Fighters and The Dolphins, who have also collected 13 points so far, are lying in the second and third place respectively.

United Artists are the leaders in Stream C.

United Artists moved to the top of the stream after beating the Vhembe FET College 2-0 at the Makwarela Stadium two weeks ago. Maranzhe Hungry Lions and Vhembe FET are in the next two places.

The competition is among Rockers FC, Maweja Takers FC and Tshakhuma RO United in Stream D, with Rockers the leaders. Western Stars are leading Stream E. Makhitha Oscar Stars and Mpheni Home Defenders are the close chal-

lengers for the top spot. Western failed to make the

grade in the promotional play-offs after ending on top of the stream last season.

In Stream F, the competition is among Muziafera Blue Ea-gles, Mulima FC and Masham-ba Soccer Academy. Rabali Pull Together are currently leading the pack in Stream G. They won all the matches they have played to date. Muswodi Happy Fighters are on top in Stream H. Happy Fighters are the only side who are still to lose a league match in the stream.

Lukau FC are on top of Stream I with 16 points. Sam-bandou United Brothers and Mulodi Freedom Birds are in second and third place respec-tively.

Ms Rhulani Mathebula.

The Eltivillas Primary School expressed their thanks to Coca-Cola Louis Trichardt for its effort to nurture the football talent at the school. Abour three weeks ago, the company officially handed over a soccer field and equipment to the school. The field will be used by the scholars and the school hopes that it will ensure the development of soccer stars in the school and surrounding communities. Photographed at the soccer field are, from left to right, Mr Samson Mpilo (sports organiser of the school), Ms Mpho Ramakhanya (acting deputy principal), Ms Nomsa Tshivhase, Ms Sarina Ramahuma, Mr Joe Molepo (Coca-Cola) and school pupils.

Maindis Ladies Football Club are the league champions in the Limpopo Stream of the Sasol Women’s Football League. They finished their league pro-gramme on top of the log after beating Kanatla Ladies on goal difference.

After they were crowned the champions, Maindis represented Limpopo Province in the in-ter-provincial tournament which was staged at the North West University two weeks ago. They proved that they are a team to be reckoned with as they reached the final stage of the tournament. They lost 0-2 to Mamelodi Sun-downs Ladies in the final.

In an interview, the team’s coach, Ms Rhulani Mathebu-la, revealed that everybody in the club was satisfied with the team’s achievement, despite the fact that they could not bring the silverware to Limpopo. She described their way to the final as rocky, saying they managed to stand against all odds and reached the final.

She said that the team’s suc-cess was not a one-man effort. She attributed all the accolades to discipline and dedication by the players and the manner in which the team was being managed. Ac-cording to her, the players were all committed from the opening league match up to the bitter end.

Asked about some of the players whose performance was consistent t h r o u g h o u t t h e s e a s o n , M a t h e b u l a stated that they were playing as a team from day one until they reached the inter-pro-vincial final. “I know that some people will argue that it was the play-

ers like Banyana Banyana's scor-ing machine, Noko Matlou, who contributed a great deal towards the team’s success.

I want to put the record straight by stating that she Noko was not playing alone in the team,” she said.

Mr Tshifhiwa Thidiela.

It is now official. The Vhem-be-based Safa Second Division League side, Basel Football Club, now belong to the Thi-diela family.

The brand manager of Black Leopards Football Club, Mr Tshifhiwa Thidiela, confirmed this in a telephonic interview over the past weekend. This brings to an end weeks of spec-ulation that the team had already been sold to a certain business consortium.

When asked as to why they had decided to purchase another second division franchise while they already had a feeder in the same division in Phungo All Stars, Thidiela said that the ra-tionale behind the move was to accord more local players more opportunities to trade their skills in the professional ranks.

He revealed that they have more than 40 players in the Phungo All Stars camp. “We can’t register 100 players in a team while only 11 are allowed to play in a game,” he said. Thidiela indicated that registering a huge number of players would mean abusing the players as most of them would spend the whole season without featuring in an official game. He also said that

their feeder sides would play at least three friendly matches against the senior team, Black Leopards, as a way of according the Leopards’ technical staff a chance to have a closer look at the amateur players.

When asked as to how they intended to change the fortunes of Basel, Thidiela said that they were not go-ing t o ru sh into making changes where there was no necessity. He stated that they w o u l d g i v e all the current Basel players enough chance to prove them-selves before o f f l o a d i n g them. Asked whether the t eam would c h a n g e i t s current home ground, Mak-ware l a S t a -d i u m , M r Thidiela said that a decision was still to be made.

Basel are still to win a league match this season. They con-ceded 11 goals in their three league matches. They lost 0-2 to Great North FC, 0-2 against The Dolphins and 0-7 against Joe’s Express.

The former general manager of Basel FC, Mr Baldwin Mahlale, confirmed the sale.

OOSantos crush Peace MakersMukula Young Santos booked a place in the next round of the Nedbank Cup competition by beating Mabvete Peace Makers 4-1 at the Tshifulanani Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Santos took the game to their opponents from the first whistle, but their strikers let them down by shooting aimlessly from close range.

They managed to score one goal during the first half. It was in the 34th minute when Vusani Nendauni scored a brilliant goal from close range.

Peace Makers continued to fum-ble at the goal finish in the last half. They were severely punished when Sharlen Munyamela blasted in a rocket, following a scramble within the Peace Makers’ danger area. Tshengelo Tshisikhawe of Peace Makers was booked for ob-structing Ronewa Mavhungu in the 54th minute.

Peace Makers pulled one back in the 64th minute. Rendani Mavhun-gu finished off a rebound after Joseph Manenzhe’s volley hit the woodwork and bounced back into play.

Peace Makers introduced Carlos Ramuthelo and Aifheli Munyai for Elias Munyai and Rendani Mavhun-gu respectively in the 66th minute. Young Santos responded by replac-ing Vusani Nendauni with Gumani Mamushiana moments later.

Young Santos increased the mar-gin through Sharlen Munyamela. He beat the keeper with a header, following a corner kick by Joshua

Netshilindi. Peace Makers lost their fighting spirit after Santos’ third goal and Santos put matters beyond doubt when Thitevhelwi Netshilindi caught the keeper off guard and scored with a volley.

The results for the other Nedbank

Cup matches which were also played on Monday are: United Artists 2, Thula M2 FC 0; Rockers FC 2, Western Stars 0; Rabali Pull Together 2, Lukau FC 0 and Muziafera Blue Eagles 5, Rabali Pull Together 1.

Vusani Nendauni of Young Santos controls the ball, while Doctor Mamatho of Peace Makers is ready to intercept.

Avhapfani Kwinda of Peace Makers falls back, while Sharlen Munyamela of Santos tackles him from behind.
