Examples of Our Commitment• All global Milliken products are

certified carbon neutral

• All Milliken carpets are free of PVC and plasticizers, and have been since 1986

• All our carpet may be reused, renewed or recycled and is certified Sustainable Carpet Assessment Standard NSF 140

• We continue to pledge No Carpet to Landfill, helping our customers find better options for disposing of old carpet with our Landfill Diversion Program

• Maximum LEED Points can be earned in three key categories: Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality and LEED Innovation Credits

• All Milliken carpet products are free of the 15 Red List chemicals defined in the Living Building Challenge

• Zero waste from our manufacturing facilities goes to landfill since 1992

• 46% of the energy used in the manufacturing of our carpet is renewable through local landfill methane gas harvesting and company-owned hydroelectric facilities

MR Credit 2.1 & 2.2 Construction Waste ManagementWhy Choose Milliken: There is no excuse for your old carpet to go to landfill. The Milliken Reclamation program ensures that the replaced carpet is managed in the most environmental and socially responsible way. We have a nationwide network of recyclers that specialize in recycling one or more carpet types including Milliken’s process of finding reuse/renewal outlets for carpet tiles—the most environmental solution possible.

MR Credit 4.1 & 4.2 Recycled ContentWhy Choose Milliken: All Milliken modular carpet contains a minimum of 24% post industrial recycled content. When combined with the rest of your material selections, Milliken carpet will help you stay above the 10% average for recycled content. By choosing Milliken modular carpet with ESP backing you can achieve the MR Credit 4.2 (for recycled content greater than 20%).

MR Credit 5.1 & 5. 2 Regional MaterialsWhy Choose Milliken: All Milliken USA-produced modular carpet is manufactured in two locations in Georgia. Projects within a 500 mile radius can earn credit toward this point with Milliken carpet. (Roughly defined by Richmond VA, Columbus OH, Shreveport LA, and Ft. Myers FL).

EQ Credit 4.1 Low-Emitting Materials: Adhesives & SealantsWhy Choose Milliken: Milliken’s patented TractionBack® system qualifies for contribution to this point, as do all standard Milliken adhesives.

EQ Credit 4.3 Low-Emitting Materials: Carpet SystemsWhy Choose Milliken: All Milliken carpet products are certified to the Carpet and Rug Institute’s Green Label Plus program. This is one of the quickest and easiest ways to gain one full point for your project.

Innovation Design CreditsProjects can be awarded points for exceptional performance above the requirements set by LEED or innovative performance in Green Building categories not specifically addressed by the Rating System. Why Choose Milliken: Milliken Commercial Carpet is NSF 140. Products certified to third party standards for sustainability can qualify for innovation point credits. Up to four points can be awarded in this section.

Maximize Points For Your ProjectMilliken Carpet can help you achieve points in three key categories: Materials & Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, and LEED Innovation Credits.

Milliken Sustainability

LEED Credit Milliken Carpet ContributionMR Credit 2: Construction Waste ManagementDivert construction, demolition and land-clearing debris from disposal in landfills and incinerators. Redirect recyclable recovered resources back to the manufacturing process. Redirect reusable materials to appropriate sites. Recycle and/or salvage at least 50% (1 point) or 75% (2 points).

Completely reusable/recyclable Milliken carpet from a site contributes to this credit. Milliken will also help facilitate recycling efforts of other carpet products through our Landfill Diversion Program.

MR Credit 4: Recycled Content (Post-consumer + ½ Pre-consumer)Use materials with recycled content such that the sum of post consumer recycled content plus one-half of the pre consumer content constitutes at least 10% based on cost of the total value of the materials (1 point) or at least 20%n of the total value of the materials in the project (2 points).

Completely reusable/recyclable cushion-backed tile contains 26% pre consumer content. Aquafil Econyl products contain an additional 12% pre consumer and 13% post-consumer content.

MR Credit 5: Regional MaterialsIncrease demand for building materials and products that are extracted, harvested or recovered, and manufactured within the region, thereby supporting the use of indigenous resources and reducing the environmental impacts resulting from transportation.

Projects within 500 miles of Milliken’s manufacturing in LaGrange, GA can claim a percentage of carpet toward the 10% minimum.

IEQ Credit 3.1/3.2: Construction IAQ Management PlanReduce indoor air quality problems resulting from the construction/renovation process in order to help sustain the comfort and well-being of construction workers and building occupants.

All cushion-backed tile products are CRI Green Label Plus certified which is a prerequisite for this point.

IEQ Credit 4.1: Adhesives and Sealants IEQ Credit 4.3: Flooring SystemsReduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants that are odorous, irritating and/or harmful to the comfort and wellbeing of installers and occupants. All adhesives and sealants(1 point) and flooring systems (1 point) installed in the building interior shall meet the testing and product requirements of the California Department of Health Services Standard Practice for The Testing Of Volatile Organic Emissions From Various Sources Using Small-Scale Environmental Chambers, including 2004 Addenda.

Cushion-backed tiles are CRI Green Label Plus certified and contribute to Adhesives and Sealants and Flooring Systems points. Milliken Moisture Pro Adhesives are CRI Green Label Plus approved, CARB compliant, and approved for use in installations with up to 95% in situ relative humidity.

IEQ Prerequisite 3: Minimum Acoustical PerformanceIEQ Credit 9: Enhanced Acoustical Performance Provide classrooms that facilitate better teacher-to-student and student-to-student communications. Design classrooms and other core learning spaces to meet the Reverberation Time (RT) requirements of ANSI Standard S12.60-2002 with a 45 dBA or less (1 point). EQ 9 requires a 40 dBA or less (1 point) or a 35 dBA or less (2 points).

Cushion-backed products enhance classroom acoustics by absorbing background noise and reducing reverberation time.

IEQ Credit 10: Mold PreventionReduce the potential presence of mold in schools through preventive design and construction measures.

All Milliken cushion-backed carpet tile products contribute to an IAQ Management Program, which is a prerequisite for the Mold Prevention credit.

ID Credit 1Provides projects the opportunity to be awarded up to 4 additional credit points for exceptional performance above LEED requirements and/or innovative design not specifically addressed by the LEED Rating System.

Milliken’s cushion-backed products are NSF-140 Certified and have third-party verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs); both contribute toward this credit.
