aedis portfolio - commercial, retail & hospitality
DESCRIPTION
Many architects promote sustainable practices, community building and good urban design. We are not mere advocates; we actually practice what we preach. Our home is a beautiful 1925 neoclassical historical landmark. Targeting LEED Platinum, it is among the greenest commercial buildings in San Jose. This project plays a key role in revitalizing the cultural and arts district known as SoFA, by also providing a retail environment on the ground floor that emphasizes local, authentic and organic vendors. Our design philosophy can be summed up in 3 words: Community, Sustainability and Transformation. Community - As citizens, we reach out, engage and give back to our communities. We are citizen-architects. Sustainability - Our duty is to help each other be responsible stewards of the earth and to pass this tradition on to the generations after us. Transformation - We aspire to create environments that will propel the human mind, body and spirit forward.TRANSCRIPT

Leading by Example
Many architects promote sustainable practices, community building and good urban design. We are not mere advocates; we actually practice what we preach.
This beautiful 1925 neoclassical historical landmark is our new home. Targeting LEED Platinum, it is among the greenest commercial buildings in San Jose.
This project plays a key role in revitalizing the cultural and arts district known as SoFA, by also providing a dynamic retail environment on the ground floor. The SoFA Market emphasizes local, authentic and organic vendors.
People with Passion
Like the community we live and work in, Aedis is like an extended family that comes from all corners of the world. Each one brings a rich diversity of background and experiences, which is essential in forming a collective awareness that guides and inspires our work.

management and design leadership of major projects. To the firm’s clients, his greatest asset is in establishing the broad facility strategy and vision. His
approach to architecture combines innovative design with sound business practices. Thang is a strong advocate for a highly integrated approach
to project delivery. As such he has a wide range of experience in all construction methods including Design-Build, Non-Bridging Design-Build,
and Lease Leaseback. Combined with the use of advanced technology such as Building Information Modeling and Virtual Design and Construction, the
result has been success on several of the firm’s key projects beating both schedule and budget requirements.
Thang has been responsible for the design of $500 million of construction projects on the West Coast. His work has won design awards at both state
and local levels. Thang also serves on the board of directors of several non-profit organizations and is very active in the community.

EXPERIENCEIn addition to her work with educational projects and commercial work,
Wendy brings a diverse background of experience, including civic projects and highly detailed private work.
An aedis project manager since 2009, Wendy is responsible for all phases of project delivery, from programming to construction administration.
Wendy has a solid background in technical detailing and a strong commitment to client satisfaction. Additionally, she is experienced in
working with a variety of agencies and end users, bringing a holistic understanding to every project.
She is currently working on the SoFA Market and volunteers regularly teaching art to elementary school children.
This child development center houses a high quality Mandarin immersion preschool program designed to develop each child’s cognitive, physical, social,
and emotional skills.
Recognizing that language is best learned through social interactions and meaningful activities, the
architecture responds to that with indoor and outdoor spaces that encourage social interaction.
For example, rather than separating classrooms with corridors, each building links the classrooms
with a shared common area located beneath each daylighting “lantern”.

The Math building expresses the program’s conservative nature through a strongly linear form accentuated by shades of blue and grey in geometric and linear patterns.
Project features a “forest wall” consisting of repurposed redwood lumber that faces the main courtyard arranged in an irregular, yet rhythmic pattern.
To take advantage of informal learning opportunities, writable interior wall surfaces and outdoor gathering spaces were provided throughout the buildings to encourage collaboration.
