RESPECT RESPONSIBILTY RESILIENCE

Well done to all students in Years 3 – 6 and thank you to our fantastic community, which made our House Athletics Carnival for 2018 a huge success! The carnival took place at Knox Athletics Track in Knoxfield on Wednesday 1st of August and students competed against one another in their respective age groups. The track and surrounding areas were a little wet from overnight rain but the weather smiled upon us and it turned out to be a beautiful sunny day, with very little wind to speak of. The day started with all students being divided up into particular events where they had 40 minutes to compete, with the top four competitors being awarded a ribbon for that event. The students participated in three events in the morning and then three more in afternoon. The heats took place in all track events with a final eight being run for each age group. The students participated in High Jump, Long Jump, Shotput, Discus, 100m Sprint and 80m Hurdles. All students should be congratulated on their wonderful achievements and their sportsmanship shown to each other. It was extremely pleasing to see all students cheering each other from the respective houses, and all should be super proud of their efforts! A big thank you to all parent volunteers who assisted on the day as well as other parents who came along to support their children. A big thank you must also go to the teachers who ran events on the day and contributed to a successful event for our students. A huge thank you also goes to the House and Sports Captains for assisting the parent volunteers and staff with recording of data and directing younger students to events. After a successful carnival we look forward to doing it all again in 2019! Please stay tuned for the next newsletter where the final point results will be published, along with photos of the winning house receiving the house athletics shield and cup, which will be presented at this coming Monday’s assembly. I will also include a list of all students who will be representing Upwey South at the District Athletics carnival to be held at the Knox Athletics Track on Thursday 6th of September 2018. Yours in Sport, Mr Jason Webb

This week, the Year 3 and 4 students have been using Dash & Dot robots in their geometry les-sons. These robots have supported students

learning when identifying, classifying, describing, and finding the perimeter of quadrilaterals. The students are highly engaged coding the Dash &

Dot robots, and are excited to learn more!

Throughout Term Three and Term Four, each of our classes will be visiting 3MDR to learn about how me-dia is produced on the airwaves. Students are writing scripts as part of the pre-production phase, and then being given the opportunity to present them on air!!!

Pictured left: Year 2 students getting ready to go live to air last week during their lessons.

The Year 6 Speechmasters Program culminated in a Graduation evening on Wednesday night.

Students presented an Icebreaker speech about themselves, a passionate speech and a speech about a local, domestic, national or international

issue. Some parents were invited to speak for 1 minute on a topic they were

given by a student. E.g Why is a post box red? Grape juice or why do we have eyebrows?

Students showed how much they have developed in their public speaking skills.

Parents have reflected their appreciation of the program.

Thank you Year 6 team.
