PRINCIPALS NOTE

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Term 4 is traditionally a very demanding term for schools with lots of forward planning to be done for 2018, as well as lots of assessments and report writing for end of year student reports. We also have Foundation Transition days and year 6 Graduation to plan for. As there are lots on it is important for our families to check the calendar on the side of the Linkletter each fortnight, and ensure that you keep watching for things as they arise. Class Placements for 2018 We have had a huge influx of students enrolling in the school, as well as numerous others joining us at the start of 2018. At this point in time we will be operating an extra two classrooms. As we will soon be working on our classroom placements, if you have a special request about your child’s placement in 2018, you must put this in writing to me before the end of November. Please do not request a particular teacher (as all our teachers are excellent practitioners), but you might wish to ask that your child not be placed with a particular student. We will do our best to accommodate your wish, but this is sometimes not possible. Our teaching staff spend many hours working out the best placement for your child , and ensures they are placed with a friend or two. Any requests received after the end of November cannot be accommodated. We do not keep any past requests on file, so please consider this. School Hats Please ensure your child/ren have their school hats on a daily basis so that they are sun smart and able to fully participate in the yard at breaks. Students must stay in the shaded areas if they do not have their hats during terms 1 and 4. Please have names clearly marked on the inside of their hats and keep them clean (they do respond well to a good wash in the washing machine from time to time and don’t fall apart!). Remember - No Hat, No Play! Bike and Scooter riders Would parents please have a good chat with their children who ride to school as we have had some reports of students riding dangerously on the footpaths and not taking care around pedestrians. This is extremely dangerous for everyone concerned. Suggestion Box Thank you to the generosity of one of our parents, Trevor Viney, we now have a lovely stainless steel, custom made suggestion box, which will be located in our reception area. We encourage our school community to utilise this new opportunity to provide ideas for improving our wonderful school. Suggestions sheets are available for anyone with great ideas to be considered by the School Council. A huge thank you to Trevor for his kind generosity.

Childrens Fair A reminder that the Wodonga Council organised free Children’s Fair is on this Sunday 29 October from 10am-3pm, with many exciting activities for the children to participate in. This will be held at the Wodonga Racecourse. ‘Essential Items’ Payments A huge thank you to all the families who have attended to paying their ‘Essential Items’ payments for the year. This amounts to $75 per student per year and helps cover the cost of supplying all the stationery items the students need at school as well as helping to cover the licences for Mathletics and Reading Eggs (amongst other things). This is excellent value for parents and saves you having to go out and purchase these things yourselves from a ‘book list’. Reminders for payment will be sent monthly to families who have not paid this, as families have had the option to paying this off each term across the year.

STUDENT WELLBEING REPORT

Breakfast Program Breakfast packs are now available. If you feel your family would benefit from the assistance of this program or you have any questions, please see me (Mrs Potter) who can supply you with a breakfast pack.

Walk to school month This years ‘Walk to School’ month has been full of wonderful activities for all to enjoy. As the month draws to an end all families are encouraged to continue to walk, scoot or ride to school. If you live too far away to walk you maybe could park a block or so away and walk from there.

West’s got Talent Students are busy practicing for their performances in West’s got Talent. Heats will start in the next couple of weeks once music and acts have been finalised. Notes will go home reminding students of their performance day/time and letting families know if they are wanting to come and watch.

Studio West Studio West year 5-6 students will be offering a range of pampering options at recess on Thursdays in the childcare building for students and teachers. Hand massages 20-50cents, back massages 20 cents, foot soaks 50 cents and face massages 50 cents - $1. They hope you will support them and enjoy being pampered.

All students are asked to bring their bathers and towel to school in a plastic bag as they will change at the pool. The bag needs to be a reusable one and not tied up in a knot. LIBRARY

Welcome back!.....Term Four has started well with most students having returned their Library book prior to going on holidays. There are

however still some students who are yet to do this, so could I ask Parents / Carers / Guardian’s to remind students to

check their school bags etc for any overdue items..

Did you know that our Library is opened before and after school for students?….

Students have the opportunity to change their books daily. The School Library is also opened each morning for students

to come in to play board games, read a book, colour in or just socialize with others.

The School Community is also welcome to come into the Library prior to the start of school each day.

Thank You

Denise Donehue

Library Technician

RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS

Respectful Relationship – Whole School Approach

In 2016 our school applied to be a partner school, along with the other Wodonga Federation of Government Schools, in the

implementation of Respectful Relationship. This important initiative aims to ensure students have skills, knowledge and attitudes to

engage in respectful relationships now and into the future.

A whole school approach to Respectful Relationships focuses on six key domains:

Our school has been teaching elements of Respectful Relationships for many years. Our success in applying for this funding supports the

Federation schools to be able to strengthen our ability to promote and model gender equity in everything that we do, and support

students and staff affected by family violence. Over the coming weeks, we will be outlining the Respectful Relationships curriculum.
