Helping Young Children with LearningDisabilities at HomeGretchen Petersen, Chief Operating Officer

Parents often ask, “What can we do at hometo help our child?”. As you know, children withlearning challenges frequently requireadditional support to understand the world,accomplish tasks or even communicate. Iwould like to share with you an article that Ifound helpful when problem solving thistopic- "Helping Young Children with LearningDisabilities at Home" written by the LearningDisabilities Association of America. While thetitle speaks to young children, I think you’llnotice that most aspects of the article apply toall children, in some way.

After School Program Fall registration is now open! We are excited to announce several new offerings includingour very first Interscholastic Soccer team! Below you will find the link to our new online registration system. Through ournewFamilyID portal you will find all pertinent information about each group we offer. You’llalso be able to complete the entire registration process, including making payments. Injust a few simple steps, you will be able to create your own account, giving you full accessto all that our program has to offer. While navigating the site, please read each group section carefully as group dates vary.For example, our Boxing group will begin a week later than all of the other groups, somegroups run once a week while others run twice, and our Soccer team will have variousgame days scheduled apart from practice days. Our registration deadline is Friday, September 27 at 5:00 PM. We kindly ask that youadhere to this strict timeline out of respect for our Instructors planning time. Thank you foryour understanding. Thinking Maps presentation Are your students coming home talking about making Thinking Maps? Have youwondered what Thinking Maps are and how we use them at LPS? Join us Wednesday September 18, 2019 at 6:00 PM and learn all about Thinking mapsand how you can use them at home to reinforce your student’s learning!The presentation will take place in the High School building, Community Room and willlast about an hour. Smile!...it's school picture time! This year’s school picture schedule is as follows: September 18: Individual and homeroom pictures will be taken for grades 9, 10, 11, and week 1 seniors. September 23: Individual and homeroom pictures will be taken for Elementary and MiddleSchool students and week 2 seniors. September 26: Individual and homeroom pictures will be taken for the day care, make-uppictures will be taken for anyone who was absent on the 18th or 23rd Order forms were sent home with the students, are due on or before picture day andshould be given to your student’s English teacher. The new Health & Wellness Center Thanks to several generous donations, LPS hasacquired a new Health & Wellness center to be usedfor Physical Education, After School Program, andother classes as appropriate. Our new center isequipped with yoga mats & blocks, exercise balls,free weights, resistance bands, jump ropes, boxinggloves/stand-up bags, elliptical, treadmills, a rower,spin bikes, a barre, modified pull-up bar, foam rollers,a Radio/tv (with workout videos), a Wii (for Wii sportsand 'Just Dance') and projector for class use. We are so excited for students to use this new spaceand invite you to come check it out next time you'reon campus!

Box tops - no more clipping! As BoxTops4education.com states, “Box Tops clips arebeing phased out of production, but may continue to befound on many products throughout the store. You can stillclip and send them to school.” You can collect Box Tops,send them in to school, and they will be placed into a BoxTops mailbox in the high school and later processed. EachBox Top submitted for the school is worth 10 centsand we have raised over $6,000 for LPS since westarted collecting Box Tops! Eventually the Box Tops program will become digital-only.Participating brands are starting to change their packagingfrom a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Top label(shown above). If you see this label, use the new BoxTops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth 10¢each for your school. The app will find participatingproducts purchased at any store and instantly add cash toyour school's earnings online.” STEPS:

1. Continue to collect Box Tops for the old versionand send them into school.

2. Download the Box Tops app (for free)!EnterLearning Prep School as your school.

3. When you buy products with the new label, scanyour receipt using the Box Tops app and it will beassigned to Learning Prep.

Food Drive Our Work Study Transition Program is having a Food Drive for the Natick Service Council. After our first visit to Natick Service Council andseeing what wonderful work they do, our students were inspired to conduct their own Food Drive to help support Natick Service Council. Forthe food drive, we are looking for Pasta Sauce, Pasta, Canned food, Tuna, Toothpaste, Mac and Cheese, or any non-perishable items(please do not send in items that have expired). There will be a food drive box outside of the work study room on the second floor and onthe first floor near the cafe. Donations for the food drive will be accepted until October 31, 2019.

Family BBQ Please join us for an LPS Family and Staff BBQ on Saturday September 21 from 12:00- 2:00 pm at Learning Prep School. Food will beprovided from Blue Ribbon BBQ and activities/games will be provided to keep the whole family entertained! This event will be rain or shine. Get involved! There are numerous ways for parents to get involved here at LPS. Partners In Education (PIE) and the Parent Advisory Group (PAG) areparent groups which each meet every other month and welcome your involvement. Below are descriptions and meeting times for each. The Parent Advisory Group (PAG) meetings are designed to focus on the state of the school and to provide a forum for the exchange ofideas on the salient and timely focus points of the school, including the health, education, and safety of our students. Parent Advisory Group (PAG) meeting times will be:

October 8th – 8:00-9:00 AMDecember 11th – 10:00-11:00 AMFebruary 13th – 8:00- 9:00 AMApril 9th – 1:30- 2:20 PM

The day your child joins Learning Prep School, and/or the day that you became a member of the school staff, you become a member ofPartners In Education (PIE) at LPS. Partners In Education is an association that includes parents and staff of Learning Prep School. Therationale for The Partners In Education (PIE) organization is to provide support for the students and teachers by providing a range ofactivities and events each year designed to bring the various constituencies of the school together to advance and to celebrate the LPScommunity. Partners In Education (PIE) meeting times will be:
