Welcome to Legacy!

We are pleased that you have chosen Legacy Christian School’s preschool program for your child’s educational foundation. It is exciting to begin a new year, a new decade and the upcoming new 2020-2021 school year with you!

Preschool will continue to be held in both the main building and the new extended campus building, helping to make room for our continued student population growth. LCS has grown not just in numbers, but in athletics, technology and leadership. This is just a testament to the quality Christian education and teacher commitment to excellence that is provided. Small class sizes and individualized instruction allow our students to excel academically and, with our focus on servant leadership, provide students with opportunities to grow in confidence as well as make a difference in our community. We are also thrilled to have our very first graduating class of Legacy Christian School this May, 2020!! There is so much to be grateful for and excited about!

Legacy’s focus is on teaching character development and helping your child meet developmental benchmarks in education. We believe that children learn as they play and when actively engaged. We offer a balance of teacher-directed and child-initiated activities. We also provide a loving Christian environment where God’s love is not only the basis of our teaching, but is also modeled by our teachers and all those associated with our program.

Our 2020/2021 Preschool application is enclosed. New student enrollment fees will be $50/student (Cash or check written to LCS). Class placement will be confirmed upon receipt of student application and enrollment fee on a first come, first serve basis.

We encourage you to schedule a personal tour during the school day. One of the best ways to see what we are all about is to visit our campus. We look forward to showing you our facility and answering any questions you may have. Children are invited to come with their parents on visits and we are never surprised when they want to join in the classroom activities! Tours generally last about 20-30 minutes- please let us know if you would like to schedule a visit.

We are excited to welcome you into our Legacy School family and partner with you in the education of your child. Growing our LCS family with people like you is a gift!

Blessings,

Legacy Preschool 2020-2021

Important Facts & FAQ’S

Is there a dress code in Preschool? Preschool does not have a dress code. Teachers will periodically send out

reminders for children to start bringing jackets, etc… when the weather turns colder. Tennis shoes are

recommended for gym days and we suggest shorts to be worn under skirts for girls. Loose fitting elastic shorts

or pants are easiest for children to slip up and down for bathroom usage. Our Preschool day is full of fun

playing in paints, water, and dirt – so it is best to dress in comfortable play clothes.

Are students required to be potty trained? Our health codes do require all students to be fully potty trained.

We teach privacy and independence when it comes to bathroom usage, but do understand that students are

still in “training”. Teachers ask students to take bathroom breaks regularly and watch for the “potty dance”.

We offer flushable wipes as an alternative to regular toilet paper for that “extra wipe” they may need. We

understand that occasionally there may be a need to change clothes and we ask that every student have a

change of clothes stored in their backpack for these occasions. Students may be asked to sit out of school for 2

weeks to a month (account put on hold) if it is deemed that a child needs a little more time to potty train.

What supplies do we need for our child for the first day of school? The supply fee that you pay each semester

takes care of all the school supplies and craft materials. Your child will need a packed lunch (include an ice

pack and water bottle if desired), backpack, and an extra set of clothes. Students who stay all day may bring

a blanket/pillow/stuffed animal that can be stored at school. We will provide nametags for the students to

wear the 1st 2 days of school.

If I have more than one student attending Legacy Christian School– is there a multi-student discount

available? For families with more than one student in LCS Elementary/Upper School, $300 will be deducted

from the tuition of each subsequent child who enrolls in LCS. $100 discount will be given for each subsequent

child enrolled in Legacy Preschool.

How does the online FACTS tuition payment plan work? Can I pay monthly or annually?

All families of LCS will sign up for a FACTS account in order to make online tuition payments. You will

receive an e-mail invite with information from FACTS that will contain instructions on how to create a

customer profile and set up a payment plan. For your convenience, tuition is divided into 10 monthly

payments. Families who choose to pay their entire annual tuition will receive a 3% discount and semi-annual

payments will receive a 1.5% discount. Payments will automatically be deducted from your bank account by

providing your bank account information (this service is free of charge) or you may have payments charged to

a debit or credit card (this service carries a 2.85% processing fee).

What are the hours of Preschool and drop off and pick up times? Drop off for all Preschool classes: 8:30-8:45 am

AM Class Pick up: 12:45-1:00 pm Full Day Class Pick up: 2:45-3:00pm

Can we use Cubs Corner (before and after school care) as needed? Yes, Cubs Corner may be used as needed on

regularly scheduled school days and is available beginning at 7 am. Drop off will be at the designated door of

the building where your child goes to school. Students must be registered in the Full Day program to use

afternoon Cubs ,which ends at 5:30 pm. Authorization for pick up and Emergency forms must be on file

(Forms included in Parent Packet). Parents will be billed at the end of each month for time used through

their online FACTS account.

We may be moving mid -year but want our child to start Preschool – what is your withdrawal policy? If a

student is withdrawn prior to the end of the school year, a written notice is required in advance, that includes the reason and last date the child will attend. Tuition will be prorated according to the student’s last day of

school. $50 admin fee will be assessed.

How are tuition costs figured – do we pay for breaks and holidays when students are not in school? Families are not charged for breaks and holidays that are listed on the school calendar. Our tuition is based on an

hourly rate of days that students are signed up to attend during the school year. Annual tuition is totaled and then divided into 10 equal payments generally paid July-April. For late registrants the 10 months of

payment would be August-May. Tuition will be prorated for any other start date and divided between the months left in the year.

Do you offer any scholarships, discounts or financial assistance for Preschool or LCS Elementary/Upper

School students? Staff members and Full Time pastors can receive discounts based on employment requirements. Starting in Kindergarten, Legacy does offer Scholarships and State Vouchers for those who

qualify whether financially or through other special circumstances. It is our desire for all of our students to continue their Christian Education at Legacy Christian School – please contact us for more info.

Sample Daily Schedule

Arrival: The teacher greets each child as they come in from carline drop-off. Children greet others, hang up backpack, lunchbox etc… and proceed to explore the play and learning centers or other morning activities that have been prepared. This is an opportunity to learn through free play, develop friendships and use verbal skills of greeting as students ease into the start of the day.

Morning Meeting & Calendar Time:

Students participate in getting-to-know you activities, discuss the schedule and activities of the day, and take turns in jobs such as flag holder & calendar leader. Calendar time incorporates practice in counting, recognizing numbers to 10, sorting objects, the concepts of more and less, ordinal numbers, creating and recognizing patterns and the components of a calendar and how they build upon one another (days make weeks, weeks make months, etc.)

Bible Time: Children are introduced to basic Bible truths and Christian character through Bible stories, object lessons, Bible verses, and music. These concepts are developed and reinforced throughout the preschool experience. Bible Curriculum – Purposeful Design Publications (Division of ACSI- Assoc. of Christian Schools International)

Circle/Story Time: Children gather on the story rug for a time of large group learning and interaction. Circle Time includes concept development, phonics and phonemic awareness, literacy activities, vocabulary expansion, music, listening and speaking skill development, a story, and an introduction to the Center Time projects for the day. Thematic Literature Based Curriculum & Itty Bitty Bookworm & State Standards

Center Time: At Center Time, one teacher will work with children in small groups or individually to develop curriculum skills through hands on projects and activities. Teachers work with children at their own developmental level and when children have demonstrated skill mastery, teachers will challenge them at the next level of application. The other teacher will interact with students as they float to the varied themed centers in the room. Thematic and Letter based Centers allow the students to explore different learning opportunities. Centers encourage the use of fine motor skills, interactions with others in dramatic play, process art, and exploration of cause and effect through science exploration. Handwriting without Tears Curriculum –Writing, Literature and Math.

Science/STEM Grade level teachers work as a team preparing and teaching Science/STEM in a rotation throughout the year and it is then taught as a special class dedicated to specific science skills. Based on Indiana State Standards

Music: Students not only have the opportunity to sing and play instruments but they also learn how to read music and recognize rhythms in fun creative music movement activities. This class is taught by our Elementary Music Teacher.

Lunch: The children will eat their packed lunch together. They are given the opportunity to practice social skills, language skills and table etiquette.

Large Muscle Activity and Outdoor Play:

When the weather allows, the children are given the opportunity to run, play, and explore in the outdoor Playscape area. During cold or rainy weather, our large classroom and gym is perfect for a wide variety of indoor movement games and activities designed for large muscle development.

**Full Day Features:

Quiet Time: 3’s students have 45 minutes of quiet time each day and the 4’s and 5+ students have 30 minutes of quiet time each day. During this time the children are welcome to sleep or quietly look at books. Some teachers prepare quiet boxes that students may use during this time as well. Students start to understand that this is a different part of the schedule where their minds can unwind from the busyness of the day.

Specials: Each afternoon a different special is offered which might include: Art, PE, Library or Spanish. We love to utilize the older kids in the building - Reading Buddies during Library, where the older kids read to the Preschoolers and Art classes that include our Middle School students assisting Preschoolers in art class etc..

Snack:

Students are provided snacks in the afternoon which comes through the supply fee that is paid alongside tuition each semester.
