• Define the following terms:– Direct Object: • The noun (P/P/T) that receives the verb
– Direct Object Pronoun (DOP):• A different type of noun which replaces the Direct
Object
– Subject: • Who/What the sentence is about
– Reflexive: (*wait don’t fill this in yet)

Meaning of ReflexiveReflexive: Just like a mirror, objects (like people) are reflected into the mirror. The mirror image of the object & the object itself are the same.

Similarly in Algebra or Geometry, the
reflexive property of equality means that a constant is equal to itself & a side (in a shape) is equal to
itself.
Back to Spanish:
• So, similarly to Spanish, sentences with reflexive verbs have the same subject & direct object.
HOW?
• Take this sentence:
• John takes out food from the bowl himself.
• Aim(s):* Who is subject & direct object?

STEP 1: DECIDE WHO YOU ARE SPEAKING ABOUT
• Let’s reuse this sentence: – John takes out food from the bowl himself.• Identify the subject. John• Identify your reflexive pronoun to replace the subject.
Step 2: CONJUGATE YOUR VERB

STEP 3: PLACE THE PRONOUN, THEN THE VERB, AND FINISH SENTENCE.
• Let’s reuse this sentence: – John takes out food from the bowl himself.
- Se saca
- Se saca la comida del plato hondo.
- Yes, the himself is implied. That’s the purpose of the whole reflexive idea.
A Few Things to Note:
1. Our regular pronouns ( Yo/Tu/El/Ella etc. ) can be added into the sentence.
2. Conjugate verbs regularly. Follow our infinitive ending ( –ar, -ir, & -er rule) & stem-changing ( e to i, e to ie, o to ue rule).
3. The Reflexive Verb Infinitive is different:The Infinitive is the regular –ar/-ir/-er verb + the –se ending:
Sacarse – to take out (something) your/one-self
Practica!
• Practice defining and creating los verbos reflexivos in infinitive form.
• Practice writing sentences by using the Reflexive Pronoun & Verb Rules.
• Continue to use old Spanish knowledge & discover new words and/or reflexive verbs.
• And lastly, Evaluate how you are doing with los verbos reflexivos.
