In the reflexive construction, the subject is also the object

A person does as well asreceives the action…

The subject, the pronoun andthe verb are all in the sameform…

In other words, the verb “reflects” back on the subject and the object

Posición de los pronombres reflexivos:

1. In front of a conjugated verb: • Me acuesto a las diez de la noche (acostarse).• Te acuestas a las diez de la noche.• Nos acostamos ahora mismo.

2. Attached to a gerund (present progressive):• (Me) Estoy acostándome ahora mismo.• Luisa (se) está cepillándose los dientes.

3. Attached to an infinitive:• (Me) Voy a acostarme ahora mismo.• Luisa (se) va a cepillarse los dientes.

1. With reflexive verbs that relate to personal care, use the definite article (el/la/los/las) for parts of the body and personal items.

Me lavo las manos…I wash my hands.Juan se pone la chaqueta. Juan puts on his jacket.

2. Reflexive verbs are used to express “each other” or “one another.”

Nos escribimos cada semana…We write (each other) every week.Ellos se quieren… They love each other.

3. Many verbs are reflexive in Spanish that are not in English. Many of these verbs have the meaning “to get” or “to become” in English.
