Analysis method
In my introductory presentation, I talkedabout how I have tried over 24 differentexisting systems to learn languages. Some ofthese are web, mobile, book or Skype-powered solutions. In an attempt to locateareas of or lack that existing systems havemaybe failed to cover, I wanted to analysethese systems in a qualitative way. Here arethe questions I've posed myself for eachsystem.
1. Where does this system lie in thespectrum of the four I/Os? (fig. 1) In order toaccomodate for systems that worked only in 1axis, I've drawn separate axes below the maingraph area. For systems that I believe to bebalanced in all four components, I've made abox at the bottom center of the page.
2. Is the content of this system curated ordoes it rather connect learners/teachersand let them figure things out? This willreveal which systems are likely to havecustomized content.
3. Does the system actively reach out tolearners or do learners have to go to it ?Books, for example are the perfect example ofa passive system whereas systems thatrequire learner participation (vocally, scripturally, or socially) are engaging.
