Emerging Talent In Floral Design CompetitionLANDSCAPE is a new trade show trying to link all the disparate elements of the landscaping industry together. It represents the interior landscaping in hotels, offices and shopping centre as well as traditional outdoor environments.

BRIEFWhere Indoors Meets OutdoorsThe brief is to design a table centre which reflects the ‘Where Indoors Meets Outdoors’ element of the event.

Using their own flowers and materials entrants will be provided with a white circular table measuring 60cms diameter and 75cms high on which to produce their piece and decorate in any way they wish. The table will be staged against a grey painted wall.

The finished piece may extend beyond the limits by no more than 20cms in any direction but obviously can be as tall as necessary.

Fresh plant material must predominate.

Artificial plant material is not allowed.

The plant material used should last for the duration of the show in good condition.

A maximum of two people permitted to work on each entry. JUDGINGJudging will be by Judith Blacklock of The Judith Blacklock Flower School and Pam Alexander OBE (Chair of the Covent Garden Market Authority).

All decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into. No individual feedback will be provided. PRIZESFirst prize of £300, second prize of £200 and a third prize of £100 will be awarded on the 24th of September during the course of the show.

WINNERS ANNOUNCEDThe winners will be announced on Tuesday 24th September 2013 at the LANDSCAPE show in Battersea Park itself.

Battersea Park Promontory Design Competition

BRIEFThe Promontory is located towards the North West corner of the Park and close to Albert Bridge. It is currently laid out is a grass area, planted with approximately 8 semi mature and mature trees, extending to approximately 830 sq.ms. and enclosed by iron railings on all four sides. Currently the site is “overgrown” with wild herbaceous plants.

It is kept locked and is currently only accessed by council staff and contractors for (infrequent) maintenance works.

The FutureThe Council, together with the Friends of Battersea Park is keen to see this prominent area improved and opened up for access by visitors to the Park.

The Council is therefore inviting landscape design practitioners to submit their proposals to a competition to re-design the area to achieve these aims. The work submitted must be the sole work of Registered Members or Fellows of the Society of Garden Designers

The winning design will include the following attributes as a minimum:

- It will be appropriate to it’s prominent location within this English Heritage Grade 11* listed Park and it’s proximity to Albert Bridge.- It will be generally sympathetic to the Victorian design style used elsewhere along the park’s river frontage.- There should be a general presumption to retain trees although possible removal for design coherence can be considered.

- It will be sustainable and affordable, both to create and to maintain.- It will allow visitors to gain clear views of and over the River Thames in a pleasant and safe environment.- There will be minimal hard surfaces within the area/space.

OverviewThe competition is to show how “the promontory” can be improved or landscaped, to allow better (and safe) public access to a location with great views of the river, and Albert Bridge – but at the same time, any improvements need to be sympathetic to the general heritage of the park (in that location, design style is generally “Victorian”) Members of The Society of Garden Designers are invited to submit designs for this exclusive competition organised by LANDSCAPE Show in conjunction with Wandsworth Council.

JUDGING Judging will be by a panel appointed by the organisers with the final decision being made by The Principle Parks Officer from Wandsworth Council responsible for Battersea Park. The judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into. No individual feedback will be provided. WINNERS ANNOUNCEDThe winners will be announced on Tuesday 24th September 2013 at the LANDSCAPE show in Battersea Park itself.
