Introduction
• Eye ball is a cystic structure kept distended by pressure inside it (12-22mm Hg).
• Eyelid, eyebrows, conjunctiva and lacrimal apparatus are collectively called as ‘appendages of eye’.
• Space between two eye lids is k/a palpebral fissure.
• Space between eyelid and eye globe is called as conjunctival sac.
• Dacryoadenitis: inflammation of lacrimal gland
• Dacryocystitis: inflammation of lacrimal sac
• Blepharitis: inflammation of eyelid
• Conjunctivitis: inflammation of conjunctiva

Eye lids contain one of the thinnest skin of the bodyEye lashes are more numerous in upper eyelid than lower one. Most numerous cosmetic surgeries done is blepharoplasty.

• Orbital septum- Extends from margin of bony orbit to the eye
lids.• Tarsus plates- Two in number for two eye lids.- Horizontal plates of dense CT.- Attach to the maxilla medially and zygomatic bone laterally by MPL and LPL

Glands of eyelid
• Sebaceous glands (gland of Zeis) and modified sweat gland (gland of Moll) at base of hair follicle of eyelashes.
• Tarsal gland (Meibomian gland-sebaceous gland) on posterior surface of tarsal plate.

Eye ball
• Occupies anterior part of orbital cavity.
• Shape is round except for anterior 1/6th, which bulge outward and looks transparent due to corneal lining.
• Eye ball has three layers of covering from outside to inside
1. Fibrous covering (sclera and cornea)
2. Vascular covering (choroid, ciliary body and iris)
3. Nervous covering (retina)

Sclera of the eye gives attachment to the extraocular muscles of the eyeball.
