“E. ROSA” Tolentino

HISTORY OF SCHOOL • Curiosity about E.Rosa fallen into oblivion

E.Rosa’s father and mother were from san severino

his father Antonio was a stonecutter in Rome. While

working in Rome Antonio a sked his Blandina

Gabrielli to come to visit him for Christmas and, as

she was pregnant. E. was born in Rome on the 13th of

February 1846. when ercole was twelve he forcefully

wanted to substitute his father who had died and

went back to Rome. In his father’s worki shop he

began by doodling on the marble slabs, the master

teacher was astonished at his first rate (outstanding)

skills : this boy has the marking of a sculptor! He

entered san luca academy and when he was 17 he

won the competition for a monument to the two

cairoli brothers the bornze group reproduces the towo

garibaldian brothers: one is dying and the other is at

heis feet.

This monument is paced in the pinclo park in Rome while Rosa was modelling

o moulding the group garibaldi turned up and said: “master I haven’t anything

to give you” but soon he put off his poncho and told him “take it as a present

in my memory”. As the years went by Ercole gained self-esteem so that he was

appointed principal master of the academy of the fine art and won the

competition for the monument to S.E. II which is in piazza Duomo, in Milan.

Once while walking in The main street in Corso Vittorio Milan with four

pupils and a stick he saw a pair of horses, he struped into the misale of the

street with his raised stick waving at the horses . they so scared the they

stared: this scene was reproduced by the sculptor in his monumernt. He was

an man, infact when the Italian king and queen went to visit him he kept

them waiting for more than one hour. As an artist he was a god, as a man he

had many flaws: he loved wine and women he died before he was fifty.

You may wonder who Ercole Rosa was. He

was a sculptor and illustrator of Italian

glories, he lived in the second half of the

19th century in San Severino and he died in

Rome in 1893. Among his most famous

works there is the monument to the Cairoli

brothers, situated in the Pincio park in Rome

and the equestrian monument Vittorio

Emanuele in Milan. Two of his marble bust,

one portraying Manzoni, the order Garibaldi,

are one display in the modern art national

gallery in Rome. Some of Ercole Rosa’s best

works are in Cagliari art gallery, Mozzi

Borgetti library in Macerata and in the

museum of Risorgimento in Rome.

Workshop presentationIn our school there is a mechanic laboratory where students regularly go to practice what we have studied in

theory and to learn how machine tools work.

A wide variety of machine tools are used in engineering to perform several function: they range from small

hand tools, such as a drill to make holes, to the most complex and large ones.

Among the stationary power driven machine tools that we use there are:

-the lathe(used for turning, faching, boring, parting and drilling);

-the drilling machine(used for cutting hols into metal wood or other materials);

-the grinding machine(for making surfaces smooth);

-the milling machine(for machining irregular surfaces against a rotating cutter).

Among the main hand tools we have:

-the caliper;

-the drill;

-the surface gange;

-the saw;

-the jaw chuch;

-the screwdriver;

-the micrometer.

These hand tools are used on the work bench.

On each machine tool we also have the most important safety signs witch help the operator to perform his

work in a safe work in a safe manner.
