Proposition. The following PROPOSITION shall be submitted to the voters in the LFISD in accordance with Texas law:

Approving an ad valorem tax rate for maintenance and operations in the amount of $1.17 per $100 valuation in the La Feria Independent School District for the tax year of 2013-2014, and a total ad valorem tax rate in the amount of $1.2991, a rate that is $0.13 higher per $100 valuation than the current tax rate for maintenance and operations but $0.00 higher per $100 valuation than the current total tax rate.

Determination of Results. Pursuant to Section 26.08(c) of the Texas Tax Code, the Tax Rate will be ratified if a majority of the votes cast in the election favor the proposition.

RESOLUTION OF THE LA FERIA ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES ORDERINGAN ELECTION TO RATIFY THE TAX RATE

STATE OF TEXAS § LA FERIA INDEPENDENT COUNTY OF CAMERON § SCHOOL DISTRICT

WHEREAS, Section 26.05(a) of the Texas Tax Code provides that a school district must adopt a tax rate before the later of September 30th or the 60th day after the date that the school district receives the certified appraisal roll from the chief appraiser of the applicable appraisal district;

WHEREAS, the Chief Appraiser of the Cameron County Appraisal District has certified to the assessor for the La Independent School District (the “District”) the taxable value of property in the District;

WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees (the “Board”) of the District has elected to adopt a tax rate (the “Tax Rate”) for maintenance and operations for the 2013-2014 tax year that exceeds the tax rate for the prior tax year;

WHEREAS, Section 26.08 of the Texas Tax Code requires the District to hold an election to ratify the Tax Rate;

WHEREAS, pursuant to the Texas Election Code, the Texas Education Code, and Board policy, the Board, as legal agent of the State of Texas, has the legal power and duty to order an election, give notice of the election, canvass the returns, declare results, and issue certificates of elections as required by law;

WHEREAS, the District will hold a tax ratification election as required by Section 26.08 of the Texas Tax Code; and

WHEREAS, no later than the 30th day before election day, the Board shall order and call an election to ratify the Tax Rate.

Resolution

NOW, THEREFORE, the following Resolutions are hereby DECLARED, ADOPTED and ORDERED by the Board; RESOLVED THAT:

Call and Order. A special general school district election shall be held Tuesday, November 5, 2013 (the 1st Tuesday in November) for the purpose of ratifying a tax rate for maintenance and operations in the amount of $1.17 per $100 valuation in the La Feria Independent School District (“LFISD”) for the tax year of 2013-2014.

Regular Voting and Polling Locations. Regular voting shall be held Tuesday, November 5, 2013, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the following polling location(s) within LFISD:
