La Feria ISD 2010-2011
When a student or staff is experiencing
signs and symptoms of a medical emergency for
example:
PROCEDURES FOR RESPONDING TO EMERGENCIES
Difficulty breathing or ongoing shortness of breath Severe chest or abdominal pain or pressure Chest pain that radiates to the jaw or down one arm Loss of consciousness Intense and uncontrolled pain Sudden dizziness or weakness Confusion or change in mental status, personality Head, neck, back injury Injury to the eyes or ears Breathing difficulty Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) Bleeding that doesn’t stop Severe or persistent vomiting Coughing up or vomiting blood Sudden weakness on one side of the body Broken bone Severe burns Suicidal thoughts or behavior Foreign object in throat
Incidents that Require Immediate Response:
Follow these steps:
Notify the staff closest to you that is trained in
CPR/First Aid. (See the hearts on the below
map to locate those closest to you).
The staff trained in CPR/First Aid has the
authority to activate 911. They will designate
someone by pointing and saying,” Call 9-1-1, and call the office to bring
the AED.”
•The office will send the closest AED , the emergency bag, the nurse, and the principal.
• Stay with them until help arrives.
• The principal or designee will notify the parent.
