162 THE CAPE TOWN GUIDE.

THIS is the OI,Iest and Largest Firm of Cycle Manufacturers in the

World with Factories in Birmingh'tm and Coventry. It is next to impossible to accurately ~escribe the vac:tness of this cuncern, but to

give some idea it is interesting to note that the Factories cover an area of something like six or seven acres of ground, and about 1.200 Machines are turned out per week. In addition to these, thousands of pairs of Ricksha Wheels are made every year.

'rhe quality and construction of the Machines is of the very best, RudgeWhitworth having been awarded no less than 29 Gold Medals at the various Exhibitions.

Among the Patrons of Rudge-Whitworth, Ltd., are H.R.H. The Princess of Wales, H.R.H. The Duke of York, H.R.H. The Princess Beatrice, H.LM. The Empress of Austria, H.M. The King of Spain, H.M. The Queen of Greece, and the 113ading nobility and aristocracy of England.

The extraordinary success which has been gained by Rudge-Whitworth Cycles and the innumerable victories that have been won on them in all parts of the world cannot be estimated.

The following is a small selection :-1 Mile Record, 1 min. 25.3/5 secs.

100 Miles World Record. 100 Kilometers World's Cha.mpionship.

50 Kilometers French Championship. 10 Kilometers Dutch Championship.

while records annexed by riders of Rudge-Whitworth Cycles are innumerable. Rudge-Whitworth. Ltd., have also been patronised by the BrItish

Government, and the Ambulance Wagons for 'the Soudan Expedition were manufactured at the Factories of Rudge-Whitworth, Ltd., as well as Machine supplied to the 2nd Life Guards, Royal Horse Guards, Metropolitan Police, Manchester Police. and the Civil Servants of Ireland.

The Company has Depots in the principal centres of England (having no less than three in London itself), with distributing centres in every country in the world. In South Africa there are three Depots, viz., 17, Hout Street, Cape Town, 38, Main Street, Port Elizabeth, and Henwood's Buildings, J ohannesburg, with complete Workshops where Repairs are executed for every class and make of Cycle. 'rhe South African Branches are under the control of Mr. L. S. Meintjes, who is known to every Cyclist in South Africa, and not a few in Europe and America.

The high degree of perfection to which Rudge-Whitworth Cycles have been brought created a demand which, at times, was impossible for the Company to meet, and through the long delay in the execution of their orders several patrons were disappointed. This difficulty has now practically been overcome, and by extensive additions to Machinery and a complete reorganization of the two Factories, orders placed will be promptly executed to the entire satisfaction of all Patrons.

To all wishing to enjoy the pleasures of Cycling, we cannot do better than lay, "Ride a Rudge-Whitworth."

The Distinguishjng' Oharacterjstics of this Old Established Company are:

I. Undoubted Security.-The Amount of Funds held by this Company, together with the UNLIMITED LIABILITY of a large and wealthy body of Shareholders, point it out as amongst the most eligible of Offices doing business in this Colony.

II. Lowest Current Rates.-The Company, owing to the large number of Risks on its Books, is enabled to insure the different Classes at their MINIMUM Rates, the same being rated according to the nature of the Risk to be Insured. A.n individual is, therefore, imprudent to run his own Risk when the Company can relieve him of the danger of loss at the smallest possible cost.

Ill. Prompt and Liberal Settlement of Claims.-All Losses are adjusted by independent Assessors, and paid immediately on proof.
