Bali University OfficialsConfirm Rabies Virus NowPresent in Island's Cattleand Swine Populations.

Bali's continuing battlewith rabies entered a new andconcerning phase with the newsthat evidence of the deadly virushas been found in the cattle andswine populations of the island.

    Radar Bali quotes an

unnamed source who confirmedthat scientific studies conducted atBali's Udayana University revealthat the rabies virus has beenfound in a sample of cows and pigspresent on the island.

This report was furtherconfirmed by the head of theveterinarian biomedical andmolecular laboratory of theUniversity, Professor I GustiNgurah Mahardika, who saidrabies had "certainly" spread to

    Bali's cattle and pigpopulation.

Speaking on the phonewith Radar Bali, ProfessorMahardika said, "Yes, laboratorytests show victims of rabiesamong cattle and pigs."

Locations in whichrabies have been confirmed inthese farm animals are in theregencies of Tabanan andBadung. While reluctant to givespecific areas for the outbreaks,

Mahardika did confirm cattleinfections in Tabanan and in theBukit Jimbaran area of the island.

Professor Mahardika saidthe cases of cattle and pig infectionwere tied to bites from rabies-infected dogs. The pigs and cowsbitten by the dogs eventuallydisplayed rabies symptoms anddied.

    Risk to Humans Minimal

When asked of the risk ofinfection from cows and pigs tohumans, Mahardika discountedsuch risks as being minimal. He didwarn, however, of the chance ofinfection to meat handlers withopen cuts that come in contact withthe raw meat of pigs and cows.

He called for better publiceducation on how rabies is spreadin order to address the ineffectiveway in which rabies has been dealtwith in Bali to date.

G'day again folks and yetagain the Mighty Pies turn my Fridaynight into a celebration with atremendous win over the Dons. Ienjoyed watching the game at KutaTown Houses and caught up withlots of people I hadn't spoken to in awhile. A big congratulation goes outto the Kiwi grandad.

This weekend is a big onein Australian history (no Ken notbecause the Pies will smashAdelaide) with the federal electionbeing held, and possibly the firstchance a female has to hold the bigseat, and this time not by default. Atthe end of the day the most votedparty will be in power and life will

continue as normal in the Land of Oz.I urge you all as conscientiouscitizens of Australia to get into theembassy in Renon and cast yourvote, for without filling in a ballot yousimply don't have the right to debatepolitic in general, or not with a fellowvoter. So if you have an opinion andyou don't mind letting it fly inconversation, get yourself in and putpen to paper, or keep it to yourself.

You know somethingpunters, it never ceases to amaze mehow some people that choose tolive here in Bali are so consumed intrying to be a part of everyone else's

business and will walk overburning coals to get an ear full ofgossip. I find it very very funny towatch as their facial expressionchanges to a look of false interest asthey are told about what someonedid, or how someone else behavedbadly, the whole time bursting to getthe word out as quickly as they can. Isthis normal human action? Does a

fully mature person feel the need tobelong to a group that badly, that theysimply can't help themselves when itcomes to other people's affairs? Awise man once told me believe halfof what you see and none of what youare told (Sounds like the last verse ina Marvin Gaye song) and with that inmind I will say to you all, Valour is thebetter part of discretion, so pleasefolks use your brains. This particularwise man went on to discussmanners with me, as apparently Ineeded a tune up after too many littlegreen bottles, and was reminded thatthe simple things like saying hello tosomeone when they address you, isa must, even if you have interferedwith their business and they have toldyou to pull your head in, you as amature aged person should knowbetter and exercise your ownmanners. One would suggest that atthat age one would know better?

Moving right along now, Iwas told a story this week about amoney changer in Seminyak whowas offering a much better rate thanthe rest of them and had people liningup to exchange Australian dollars. The holiday maker (not knowing anybetter) explained that they hadpassed $500 bucks over and after

watching the fellow countthe money out in front of them, pickedit all up from the counter and walkedoff to enjoy some lunch with friends. When the time had come to pay thebill they have counted their pile ofmoney and discovered that the countwas down by 1.2 million. Needless tosay they have ripped back to the littlebooth and told the rat about the

missing millions which fell on deafears until police intervention wasthreatened. The missing money wasthen promptly handed over and lifewent on. I think in this instance thetraveller was lucky that they got thefull tote in the end and would say thatgenerally they wouldn't have been solucky. My advice to all travellers thatneed to change money is to count themoney when it is passed to you toensure you are not getting the rawend of the count, and to only useliceneced premises that ask you tosign an exchange slip once yourbusiness has been concluded. Ohthe joys.

Ok people I will sign out foranother week and kick back to a fewsunset beers and relax in readinessfor the next Pies game on Saturdaynight at the Kuta Town Houses ingood company. Enjoy your week, andremember, Compromise andtolerance are magical words. Untilnext week, Karn the Pies,

LONDON - The Brit ish areforgoing having childrenand instead buying roboticchildren.

British couples across theUnited Kingdom are tired ofhaving children too muchresponsibility, too costly and toomessy. Instead they are opting tohave robotic children, just like inthe 2001 futuristic fairy taleArtificial Intelligence starringHaley Joel Osment.

    Ian Chadsworth and his

wife, Fiona, were the first topurchase robotic children. Fiona, who is in her early 40s, said Ithought about having children, butdecided that they'd just be toomuch work. When I learned that Icould just buy a robot child. I wasthrilled. Fiona calls her son,Becks (named after her fathersoccer player.)

    B e c k s i s s oadvanced that he can tell jokes and keep hishuman parents up todate on news on theinternet. I don't have tos u r f t h e i n t e r n e tanymore, Ian said,Becks just finds the

    information out for me.Becks moves

around the house on wheels, using an internal map of thehouse, but he can also follow hismum and dad around. Becks notonly makes his own bed and cleanup for himself, but he also cleans, cooks and tends to everyhousehold need of his parents. He's the perfect child, he reallyis, said Fiona.

Asked whether Beckswould attend school, Ian toldWWN that Becks was already beeducationally programmed,

specializing in all the sciences. He can perform advancedmedical procedures if needed. This is comforting news to Ianbecause he eats a lot of meat anddrinks several large pints of beerevery day. It's good to know thatif I collapse on the floor one day,Becks will be able to not only saveme and call for help, but will also

be able to perform open-heart surgery on me.

Robotic children costabout 5,000 British pounds($7,800). They are easy tomaintain, never talk back andalways behave. Some areconcerned that the robots are toocold and inhuman but the robotic

children are programmed to lovetheir parents and show their loveevery day. We programmedBecks to tell me he loves meevery hour. It's so wonderful toknow that your child appreciatesyou, Fiona said.

Prince Charles said thatthe Royal Family is looking intopurchasing a robotic child andsaid, I foresee the day when arobot will be King of England. The Empire strikes back.

Robotic children areavailable across the U.K. at MarlinElectronics, who have exclusive

rights to sell these children.Though robotic children

are more suited to the Britishculture (stiff upper lip and all),robotic children will be available inthe U.S. Wal-Mart is innegotiations with Maplin. Theyshould be on shelves for theChristmas season 2010.

Nine people have camped out for several blusterywinter days to secure a plot at a Melbournecemetery.

Thirty-four plots went on the market at theMelbourne General Cemetery at Carlton this morning.

Cemetery chief executive Russ Allison saystoday's sale proves demand is higher than ever.

"People were actually here and queued up; alady arrived at noon on Wednesday," he said.

"Last night, in all the cold weather we had ninepeople slept overnight in the cemetery.

"They were driven really to get the grave of theirchoice in a site that they wanted to be."

At the high end of the market is a $201,000 sitein the cemetery's heritage-listed pavilion.

Mr Allison is confident it will also sell."It's the very special nature of not only

Melbourne but Melbourne General Cemetery," he said."It's a prestigious cemetery and is one of the

oldest operating cemeteries in the state."It has people like John Pascoe Faulkner buried

here and a number of prime ministers, and it's a centralbusiness district, so it's really the heart of Melbourneitself.

information will be stored in the nationalarchives in Rio de Janeiro.

Anything unusual that is seen, photographed or video filmed in Brazil's air spacewill now have to be reported and catalogued. Thatdoesn't mean that the air force will be chasingUFOs.

Air force command does not have a

specialized structure to carry out scientificexperiments on these phenomena and will limititself to recording any events, the air force said ina statement.

There have several reports of UFOs inBrazil in recent decades. In 1986, air force jetswere scrambled to investigate unidentifiedobjects in the skies above Sao Paulo, but thephenomenon was never fully explained. In 1977,the Amazon town of Vigia asked for military helpafter some residents said they had been attackedby extra-terrestrials.

    Watery graves touted as green alternativeAn Australian company iso f f e r i n g a w a t e r yalternative to cremation orburial, using a process itsays ''totally eliminatespollution''.

Aquamation Industrieschief executive John Humphriessays the process, called alkalinehydrolysis, replicates the wayanimals return to nature if buriedwithout a coffin in the soil.

    H e s a y s t h e n e wtechnology uses a combinationof water, heat and alkalinity tospeed up Mother Nature'sdecomposition process.

"The same process isoccurring here except that weput [the body] into a six-footcylinder, we put the water inthere, we've got a pump thatswirls the water around," he told

ABC News Online."We heat the water up -we don't boil it - and we raise thepH level, so what would occur innature in six months occurs infour hours."

The end result is a pile ofashes which can then bepresented to relatives.

Mr Humphries says theprocess costs about the sameas cremation, but without the200 kilograms of greenhousegas emissions.

"It totally eliminatespollution. It only uses about 5 to10 per cent of the energy [usedby cremation]," he said.

Mr Humphries says forfamilies farewelling their lovedones, the experience will besimilar to a cremation, with the

traditional funeral ceremonyremaining."But instead of going into

an incinerator, [the body] will gointo a stainless steel tube ofwater," he said. "You will still begiven ashes after the process."

Mr Humphries saysa lka l ine hyd ro lys is wasdiscovered in America byscientists looking to destroymad cow disease.

"When cows die of madcow disease, burning the bodieswould not kill the disease," hesaid.

"The scientists found theonly way to kill the disease isnature, with alkaline hydrolysis."

Mr Humphries says theprocess has now become thestandard in America and Europefor disposing of diseasedanimals, but has never beforebeen used for human bodies.

    Something newWarwick Hansen, vice-

president of the AustralianFuneral Directors Association, says industry is open to new ly

    technologies, especiallyenvironmentally friendly ones.

"We do what familieswant us to do and when theseunits become fully operational, ifthe families want to use themthen that's fine," he said.

    "It is another alternative

that is available and I know ourmembers would only be toowilling to assist people in anyway they want to go.

"Certainly there is amove in every facet of ourindustry where people arewanting to move towardsgreener practices."

According to Mr Hansen, bodies are cremated in abouttwo-thirds of deaths in Australia.

    " T h e b a l a n c e a r enormally burials - there are nowvertical burials that are takingplace in Victoria, there are

burials at sea and things of thatnature," he said.

"When cremation firststarted back in 1924, the sunwasn't going to come up thatday, it was terrible, it washorrible.

"But here we are 86years later and two-thirds of allAustralians are cremated.

"Things have changedand this is something new.'

Persian Kittens Confiscated andDestroyed by Officials at Bali Port ofGilimanuk.

Efforts by Heri Susanto to own twoPersian cats came to a tragic end on Thursday,August 12, 2010, when health officials at the portof Gilimanuk seized the 2-month-old kittens

concealed on his motorbike traveling on theferry from Java to Bali.

In accordance with Bali's anti-rabies rules thatabsolutely prohibit the import and export of pets, authorities quickly euthanized the two cats by means oflethal strychnine injections.

The remains of the cats were buried behind thequarantine office at the Gilimanuk port.

The official veterinarian assigned to the

Gilimanuk quarantine office, Dr. Ketut Somen, stated hisdisappointment that many people still try to smuggleprohibited animals in and out of Bali. "We give notoleration if an animal capable of spreading rabies isdiscovered," said Dr. Sonen. "Any animal which weconfiscate will be destroyed without reference to who isthe owner or its commercial value."

It is not clear if authorities will pursue criminalcharges against Heri Susasto in connection with hisviolation of quarantine rules.

LIBRASep 23 - Oct 22As you well know, being a Libra, often the decision-making process can be a lengthy and complicated one.So once you reach a conclusion, you try to stick to it.However, it's become clear that what seemed wise andright only days ago doesn't suit. Which means making achange. And now.

SCORPIOOct 23 - Nov 22The trust of a Scorpio must be earned, and once it is, it'sgiven fully. But the increasingly questionable behaviourof somebody you trust is causing you concern. Thisrequires discussion. However, because the resultingexchanges will go deep, raise issues when you knowyou've enough time to devote to them.

SAGITTARIUSNov 22- 20 DecWhat only days ago seemed like seriously annoyingdisputes with others have turned into fascinatingdiscussions. Don't rush these. What you're gaining fromsuch exchanges won't just help resolve current issues. They'll give you insights into what makes certainindividuals tick and, even better, an understanding ofhow to deal with them.

CAPRICORNDec 21 - Jan 19You might not be thrilled to hear that in a week's timeMercury goes retrograde. Once you realise it accentscertain persistent and unsettling issues, and that themistakes it exposes could reveal exactly what you need

to know, your mood will improve considerably through. You might even be excited about what you'll learn.

AQUARIUSJan 20 - Feb 17During times of transition, surprises are inevitable. Andthere are bound to be those who insist on sticking withthe past and what's familiar. If this is what you'recontending with, discuss the reasons changes are wise. Then back off. It may be all others need is informationand time to think.

PISCESFeb 18 - March 19Now that Uranus is back in Pisces, you'll both benefitfrom the buzz it brings and have to cope with itscharacteristic unexpected twists and turns. So while lifeis bound to be a lot more exciting, ensure that your diaryis flexible and that others are prepared for frequentchanges in plan.

ARIESMarch 20 - April 19While you may be confident you know what's best, thatdoesn't mean everyone agrees with you. What's more, decisions must be made jointly. Talk things overextensively. What you learn from others won't just beinteresting, the facts they have at their fingertips andtheir ideas are all well worth considering.

TAURUSApril 20 - May 20Ever since late May a series of unexpected events havecaused chaos in several areas of your life. Uranus, which has been behind these, is no longer in thisposition. This indicates an end to these suddendevelopments. Ironically, though, it is just as you'rediscovering how beneficial some of them are.

GEMINIMay 21 - June 20Late this week your ruler Mercury begins one of itsregular cycles of retrograde, or reverse, movement. While this is bound to trigger the usual confusion, whatyou learn while undoing those problems, particularlywhen it comes to tricky family or domestic matters, willmore than compensate for the effort involved.

CANCERJune 21 - July 21Obviously, you want to know more about the ratherintriguing concepts being discussed before you committo anything. But as elements of them are new, there'sonly so much that can be explained. And guaranteesare in short supply. The trick is to rely equally on your

instincts and hard facts.LEOJuly 22 - Aug 22Rarely have discussions with others been of suchsignificance. What begins as a mere exchange of i deascould soon turn into a voyage into realms of potentialyou've never considered before. This may involveplaces, time spent with people, study or travel.Whatever the case, take these new possibilities veryseriously indeed.

VIRGOAug 23 - Sep 22Sometimes when refusing a request, you need to justifyyour thinking. However, in one particular case, not onlyis there absolutely no reason to explain yourself, doingso would just begin an unprofitable dialogue withsomebody who enjoys a good argument. Public Objections to MovingMajor Monument in Bali toM a k e W ay f o r R o a dConstruction Results inTemporary Agreement toWork Around the Problem.

It appears that publicdebate on the merits of moving

the Dewa Ruca monument at theSimpang Siur intersection in Kutamay be coming to an end, at leastfor now. And despite the desire ofBali's governor, Made MangkuPastika, to relocate the statue to an e w , n e a r b y l o c a l e t oaccommodate the new flyoverand ease traffic congestion, itappears that the statue willremain in situ for the immediatefuture.

According to Radar Bali, after numerous objections torelocating the monument, theprovincial government of Balihave adopted a "wait and see"stance, decid ing to on lyundertake a move if the statuelooks unsightly once the newoverpass is place and the publicagrees with a move at that time.

Ba l i ' s pub l ic worksdirector, Dewa Punia Asa,speaking on August 8, 2010, said:"We decided in the last meeting, the Dewa Ruci statue will not bemoved. There were certainly a lotof pros and cons and, in the end, there was no budget to pay forrelocation."

    He explained that the

construct ion o f theoverpass wi l l continue inaccordance with the master plan.If the need to reduce the amountof land to be acquired to completethe new road requires the road bebuilt in close proximity to thestatue, this will be done over the

objections of many.Eyesore Ahead?Dewa Punia Asa related

how he felt the public would onlycall for the relocation of the statueif it becomes an eyesore inrelation to the new road. Thatscenario, however, appears avirtual certainty as the new roadwill pass by the statue at nearquarters at shoulder level to themonument.

    "If the people finally

'Boomer the Dog' name change rejected byPennsylvania judge

    Gary Guy Mathews displays hisd o g c o l l a r a f t e r h i sunsuccessful petition to legallychange his name to Boomer TheDog

IT WAS a bummer forBoomer when a Pennsylvania

judge rejected a man's request tolegally change his name to"Boomer the Dog", leaving GaryGuy Mathews to walk out of courtwith his name unchanged and histail between his legs.

Allegheny County JudgeRonald W Folino said Mr Matthewswas barking up the wrong tree withthe request as it could causeconfusion with emergency medicalresponders, business records andpublic documents, according to thereport in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

J u d g e F o l i n oadded that having a mannamed Boomer the Dogcould cause "confusion inthe marketplace", andpossibly put "the publicwelfare at risk".

    " A l t h o u g hPetitioner apparentlywishes it were otherwise,the simple fact remains

that Petitioner is not a dog," JudgeFolino said in his ruling.

Mr Mathews, a 44-year-old,single, unemployed computertechnician, was not surprised bythe decision.

"Doggone it, well I wasn'ttoo confident about it goingthrough at this stage, just fromthe vibe that I was getting in thecourtroom," Mr Matthews wrotein an email to the paper.

    Mr Mathews, a self-

described "furry" - someonewho is a fan of animals withhuman characteristics - andwho enjoys dressing up asthem, claimed to be inspired bythe NBC show Here's Boomer, which starred a shaggy dog thathelped people in trouble.

Mr Mathews has sincebecome a fixture on the furryconvention scene, even posting onYouTube a video of himself in hisshredded-paper terrier outfit duringthe 2007 Midwest Furfest, the NewYork Post reported.

Mathews was not withoutsupporters, however. Dr SamuelConway, CEO of Anthrocon - thelargest yearly gathering of furryenthusiasts - wished him wellahead of the decision.

"I wish Mr the Dog luck inhis pursuit, with the earnest hopethat he has chosen a career pathfor which such a monicker would beof benefit.

Something newWarwick Hansen, vice-president of the Australian FuneralDirectors Association, says industry is open to newtechnologies, especially environmentally friendly ones.

"We do what families want us to do and when these units becomefully operational, if the families want to use them then that's fine," he said.

"It is another alternative that is available and I know our members

would only be too willing to assist people in any way they want to go."Certainly there is a move in every facet of our industry wherepeople are wanting to move towards greener practices."

According to Mr Hansen, bodies are cremated in about two-thirdsof deaths in Australia.

"The balance are normally burials - there are now vertical burialsthat are taking place in Victoria, there are burials at sea and things of thatnature," he said.

"When cremation first started back in 1924, the sun wasn't going tocome up that day, it was terrible, it was horrible.

"But here we are 86 years later and two-thirds of all Australiansare cremated.

"Things have changed and this is something new.''

Mark Williams, Western Bulldogs' Rodney Eade say AFL'sdata is flawed

The AFL is under fire forusing supposedly flaweddata to draw the linkb e t w e e n r i s i n ginterchange rotations andincreasing injury rates.

As the AFL Commissionprepares to cap the use of theinterchange bench - probably to80 for each team in a game - PortAdelaide premiership coachMark Williams says the injurydata put to the Laws of the Gamecommittee is misguided.

"It includes injuries fromtraining - injuries that havenothing to do with interchangerotations on game day," he said.

The former Power coachquestioned how young midfielderHamish Hartlett's quad injuriesfrom a 20-minute kicking sessionat Alberton could be traced backto interchange rotations - or theback injury rookie-listed DannyMeyer suffered getting out of hiscar to play in the SANFL withGlenelg.

AFL football operationschief Adrian Anderson concededthe injury data commissioned bythe league from its medicalofficers was "multi-factoral"rather than filtered.

He insists, however, thetrend of increasing use ofinterchange rotations has led to a

faster game and a greaterrisk of injury.

Western Bulldogs coachRodney Eade, as with Williams, disputes the AFL's figures. He sayshe can bring up numbers to makethe counter argument.

"Collingwood and us werethe highest rotations in 2009 andhad the least amount of injuries,"Eade said. "That's just backing upour thoughts. So we're not sure thatcap on interchanges will actuallydecrease injuries."

Eade opened the coach'srejection of restricting interchangesby calling the Laws of the Gamecommittee's options as "bulls...".

"None of the above," hesaid when asked which of the threeoptions he favoured.

"They talk of capping it at 80and that includes changes made atthe breaks," he said. "It's crap. Howcan you include changes at thebreaks? It's bulls..."

Eade warns the capping ofthe interchange will stop AFL teamsfrom carrying a second ruckmanchanging off the bench.

"The second ruckmanmight be in danger," he said. "So,you're actually changing theposition of one player and he mightstruggle to get a game. You may gofor a running type rather than asecond ruckman.

"It will become more of afitness-based game rather thanrepeat speed. So therefore you

    recruit a bit differently.

Ablett gets one more chance to shineIt may come down to gut feelrather than form or attitude forGold Coast to determine i f NathanAblett is worthy of an AFLcontract.

Ablett has been on notice forthe past month to prove his worth tothe Suns and secure a spot on their2011 list and possibly alongside

older brother Gary, who is heavilytipped to join the fledgling club fromGeelong.

However, Nathan Ablett hasmissed the Suns' last two VFLmatches with a virus, after being alate withdrawal against Werribee atSouthport on Saturday.

Wi th on ly one matchremaining, Suns coach GuyMcKenna says he and the club'srecruiting guru Scott Clayton willhave a dilemma on their hands if the24-year-old fails to play the final

    m a t c h a g a i n s tCollingwood at Victoria Park.

"He wasn't quite rightagain," McKenna said.

"He was feeling crook andhad a fever last week ... and didthe warm-up on Friday and was nogood.

    "(If he doesn't play against

    Collingwood's VFL team) we haveto make that decision with Scotto n ce a g a in a s w e h a veascertained our list.

"We'd make that call andfingers crossed he plays and wedon't have to do that."

Nathan Ablett's savinggrace is that he can hold down akey position which is a troublingarea for the Suns.

Gold Coast has a goodsprinkling of midfielders, smallforwards and run-with defenders

who will make the grade butno stand-out key position players.

H i g h - p r o f i l e r e c r u i tKarmichael Hunt is earmarked fordefence, but only as a second or thirdkey defender and he has now beenput on ice until next year after failingto get a kick against the Tigers atSouthport.

McKenna says Hunt isphysically spent and needs sometime away from the game aftercoming off a six-month stint playingrugby in France before joining theSuns midway through the VFLseason.

"We only wanted to play himfor three or four games and he waskeen to continue and that wasfantastic," said McKenna.

"He blew a f lat , andeverything is OK but he is physicallyspent.

Demetriou shoots st raight on goal-post ruleAFL chief executive Andrew

Demetriou says he is against acontroversial proposal to changethe scoring system which wouldsee a goal awarded if the ball wentthrough after hitting the post.

"It actually came from acouple of clubs. That was thesuggestion to try to alleviate thisissue a round the sco r ing , "Demetriou told ABC1's Offsidersprogram.

"I don't like it. It's worthgetting looked at.

"But I don't know abouthitting the post.

"Some people have alreadycommented that they like it and

there's lots of others that don't like it."Essendon coach Matthew

Knights says the proposal "takesaway the theatre of the game".

Demetriou says it is only acoincidence that this week's AFLannouncements of a series of rule-change proposals came after a weekof poor goal-umpiring decisions.

He says he is also against avideo-review of contentious scoringdecisions.

    "It will be something that

(AFL football operations generalmanager) Adrian Anderson looksat," Demetriou said.

"I don't like stoppages inour game. I don't like having to gosomewhere for 30 seconds.

"We have got a situationwhere we have got players whobring the ball back in quickly andthe thought of stopping to wai t for avideo review, I'm not quite sure.

"I just think we've got tominimise our errors. We've hadthree or four (goal-umpiring)errors in the last couple of weeks.

"But I think in the main ourgoal umpires do a pretty good job."

The AFL has three optionsfor putting a limit on interchangerotations, which have become akey tactical ploy.

Two opt ions involvesubstitute players and one is a capof 80 interchanges per match.

The league is concernedincreased rotations lead to moreinjuries.

Demetriou defended theinterchange proposals against y

accusations from NorthMelbourne coach Brad Scott thatthey had been introduced on a"hunch".

"They've got four to fiveyears now of injury data. They're notbasing it on hunches," Demetriousaid.

    Collingwood coach Mick

Malthouse, whose ladder-leadingMagpies have pioneered high-rotation tactics, has been a leadingcritic of a possible cap oninterchange.

Demetriou says Malthouseand other coaches are entitled to"exploit" the interchange rules asthey currently stand.

"That's fair enough under therules. But we do have someinformation (on medical research)now that we do have to look at," he
