3. Dissolved Air Floatation System (DAF)

• Introduced in Wangsa Maju WTP with design capacity of 45MLD and commenced operation in Jul 1998.

• The available space for plant construction was limited. Hence

this system, which occupy small footprint was preferred.

• System effective for removal of high organic matters.

• System is suitable for raw water with low colour and turbidityespecially from dam.

• Wangsa Maju WTP is the one and only in Selangor.

4. Membrane Technology• Very popular in developed country namely United States, Europe and

Japan.

• Introduced at two (2) partial treatment plant namely Kepong and SungaiRumput since October 2007.

• Ever since the upgrading, both WTPs have not been shutdown for reasondue to raw water quality problem.

• A fully automated river water quality monitoring station giveswarning on potential pollution load upstream of a WTP’s intake.

• Installed at 6 WTP, i.e. Sungai Langat, Cheras Mile 11, BukitTampoi, Gombak, Labu Lanjut Intake and SSP2 WTPs.

• Activates early warning/alarm on potential pollution to allowWTPs operators to take early precautionary actions. Parametersmonitored are: -

Ammonia.

Dissolved Oxygen.

Turbidity.

pH.

Nitrate.

Phosphate.

Total Dissolved Solids / Conductivity.

1. Introduction of Online Monitoring Automation System

• All WTPs have been equipped with online analyser for processcontrol.

• Specific parameters would be analysed from raw water at

intake until treated water flow out of WTPs.

2. SCADA and Telemetry System

SSP2 WTP has been equipped with state-of-the-art fullautomation system.

Full operation of the WPT is conducted by competent staff from Control Centre.

It is capable of online real-time monitoring of importantparameter i.e. flowrate, water level etc.

• Introduced at Wangsa Maju WTP in2000.

• System is very effective for 24 hoursreal-time compound securitysurveillance.

• The system advantages:

Reduce security personnel thusreduce manpower cost.

Able to detect and record anyencroachment and alert the

operator on-duty.

System will store every recordingfor 30 days.

PNSB has established Water Resources and Environmental Unit(WRES) to:-

1. Monitor development activities and raw water quality withincatchments areas by conducting:-

Environmental Impact Study

– Environmental Case Investigation

– River Sanitary Survey Programme

2. Conduct Environmental Awareness Campaign.
