We will dispatch a District inspector out to your site to determine where the backup

problem is occurring. If it is determined that the blockage is within District jurisdiction

and there is an accessible District-standard property line cleanout then the District

will clear the blockage at no cost to the property owner.

Cupertino Sanitary District is available to respond to all emergency calls 24/7. For after hours sewer issues, please call (408) 299-2507.

• Before you dig: If you or a hired contractor are planning on digging for any reason, call 811 BEFORE you pick up a shovel so that all underground pipes can be marked. In the event a

pipeline is hit or you smell gas, move away and immediately call 911.

• Before you begin any sewer construction:Cupertino Sanitary District is a Special District responsible for the maintenance and

operation of the sanitary sewer collection system. The District Operations Code is

specific to sanitary sewer requirements and regulations. In order to ensure proper

sewer installation please contact the District at (408) 253-7071 before you begin any

sewer construction.

• If someone knocks on your door:Almost all District related sewer service is done in public right of way. District inspectors

will make every effort to notify the customer in advance if they will need access to

an easement in a backyard. District inspectors and staff will properly identify themselves

and will not enter the property unless expressly given permission by an adult. To find

out if we are doing work in your area call our office at (408) 253-7071.

Please contact the District office at (408) 253-7071 if you would like to verify District

personnel field assignments. If you notice an individual acting suspicious, or if you

see a suspicious vehicle in your neighborhood, immediately report it to the Sheriff ’s

office at (408) 299-2311.

We are pleased to present this Annual Report of the Cupertino Sanitary District

(CuSD) recognizing over 55 years of service to over 22,000 customers within

the communities of Cupertino, portions of Saratoga, Sunnyvale, Los Altos and

unincorporated areas within Santa Clara County.

CuSD covers approximately 15 square miles, serving a

population of over 50,000 people with more than 22,000

residential and business units. The District maintains over

200 miles of sewer mains, 100 miles of sewer laterals, 17

pump stations, 5,000 manholes and flushing inlets, and

one equipment storage facility. CuSD conveys nearly 4.5

million gallons of wastewater daily from its customers

for treatment at the San Jose/Santa Clara Water Pollution

Control Plant.

CuSD’s collection system, much of which is more than

50 years old, has been maintained proactively with

regular cleaning and development of a Capital Improve-

ment Program (CIP) aimed at improving efficiency as

well as extending its useful service life.

sink. Up to 85% of the sewer overflows are linked

to F.O.G. and can be avoided by following simple
