We love parents coming to school events and being a part of a school community. At last weeks assembly some parents were using inappropriate language during an item that was being performed by students. I would ask parents to remember that as adults we are all role models. Speaking inappropriately and loud enough for other parents and students to hear is not creating a positive learning environment for our students. I would ask all parents to remember that we have a School Community Charter which outlines the expected behaviour of parents and staff at schools. I have taken some of the Charters key points and placed below so parents are aware of the expected behaviour here at school. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Jump Rope For Heart This year our school is participating in Jump Rope for Heart – a fantastic physical activity and fundraising program by the Heart Foundation that has been running for over 35 years. At this stage our students have already earned $5174.00 towards the Heart Foundation Fundraising. This is a mighty effort. We will be having our ‘Jump Off Day” on our 100th Day of Learning on the 4th July, 2019. Keep up the great efforts and it you haven’t signed your child up yet, it's not too late! https://jumprope.heartfoundation.org.au/register/ Parent Behaviour at School Parents and carers play an important role in the school community.

Parents and carers can expect:

to be welcomed into our schools to work in partnership to promote student learning

communication from teaching staff will be timely, polite, informative and solutions focused professional relationships with school staff will be based on transparency, honesty and mutual respect to be treated fairly. Tolerance and understanding are promoted as we

respect diversity.

Communicating with our schools

Our staff will find a time to talk to you when they can give you their full attention. Please remember that while our staff are in class or dealing with other matters, they may not be available to answer your questions immediately.

STRIVING FOR EXCELLENCE

Page 2: KINGSWOOD SOUTH PUBLIC SCHOOL BELL TIMES …...AT : Thursday 30 May 2019 T RM 2 W K 5 KINGSWOOD SOUTH PUBLIC SCHOOL Address: 60-68 Smith St, Kingswood, NSW 2747 Phone: 02 4736 2408

Our schools and communities will make sure that written communication is appropriate, fair and easy to read. We encourage you to use email and social media appropriately to connect with your school and stay up-to-date with up-coming events in the school community.

Respectful communication is a right

In all workplaces people have the right to feel respected. Unacceptable and offensive behaviour has no place in our school communities. To ensure the wellbeing of students, staff and the community in our schools, steps will be taken to ad-dress unacceptable behaviour. This may include restricting contact with the school community or, in more serious cases, referral to NSW Police.

Unacceptable behaviour may include but is not limited to:

Aggressive or intimidating actions, such as violence, threatening gestures or physical proximity. Aggressive or intimidating language, including the use of obscenities, making sexist, racist or derogatory comments or using a rude tone.

Treating members of the school community differently due to aspects such as their religion or disability. Inappropriate and time wasting communication.

Woolworths Earn and Learn When: 1 May to 25 June We are still collecting Earn and Learn Stickers. We have a school collection box at Southlands Shopping Centre and one here at school. Thank you to all of the families who are collecting the stickers for our school. Shortage of Casual Teaching Staff At the moment there is a shortage of casual teachers, not only in the Penrith area but also across the state. We always try to get a good casual teacher to cover a class or program when the teacher is away. However, at this time of year it becomes extremely difficult and we are left with no choice except to split a class for the day. I apologise for this but every effort is made to secure a teacher where possible. P & C News The P & C held their meeting on Wednesday night and have another meeting scheduled for the 3rd of July at 7pm in the school library. ICAS Testing New changes for 2019 ICAS Assessments are online* assessments, designed to recognise and reward academic excellence. The assessments are based on the curricula for the relevant year. Students are asked to demonstrate a deeper, integrated, and thorough level of learning.

To ensure an engaging and beneficial experience for all students, new ICAS assessments are developed annually for each subject in every year level. In 2019 the ICAS Tests payment will now be online. Information on how to apply online will be sent home next week to students. Finally, congratulations to the following students who represented our school in the recent 2019 Sydney West SSA Cross Country Championships. Liam McSweeney, Ella-Grace Douglas and Jadah Bolton all did a wonderful job with Jadah finishing a creditable 19th in his field. We are very proud of these students and their efforts. Pictured is Liam running in the cross country event. Regards Ms Sandra Martin Principal
