Elementary Comments- Mr. Wiese

Our “Parent-Teacher-Conference” attendance enhances our partnership between the school and home! Thank you in advance for your great attendance! The conferences are held on Tuesday, November 5 and Thursday, November 7 (and a reminder there is NO School on Friday, November 8).

For the fifth year, we have a “Panther Brag Board” in the commons. The board displays student work from each classroom in the elementary and changes normally on a weekly basis!

Remember Daylight Savings ends this first weekend in November (set your clocks back one hour).

Thank you for having your child participate in “Red Ribbon Week” October 21-25. We always promote healthy living and want to keep all of our students on the right track. There were prizes (gift cards) awarded in each section of the elementary (ask your child how they did). A special “thanks” goes out again to the Kingsley-Pierson Booster Club for their continued support.

Many of you have sent “Box Tops” with your child to school. Thank you and please continue to do this the entire year. Remember to also sign up for the “Box Tops Ap” on your cell phone!

Our “3rd Annual Doosky’s Tip Night” will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 12! All tips go back to reading books for our kids! Please come on out if you can!

A reminder about the change in weather, please make sure your child is prepared for the extreme temperatures. If the temperature, precipitation, and wind chill are all at a reasonable level, the kids are outside. It is always good to have a coat at school along with a stocking cap and gloves from now until April!

Many families have experienced the flu recently in our district. Please remember the “24 hour” recommendation (fever and/or flu free for 24 hours). The other tip is to wash your hands more than usual to help combat the flu.

There is an early dismissal on Wednesday, November 27 at 2:30 pm and NO SCHOOL on November 28 & 29.

I hope all of you have a “Happy Thanksgiving!” I am very thankful for each of your kids! I am also thankful for our faculty and staff at Kingsley-Pierson!

One final note, our “Holiday Concert” for the elementary is on Monday, December 2 at 7:00 pm!

Quarter 1 Honor Roll School HealthInformation

With the plunging temperatures it is important to dress your child warmly when they leave for school in the morning. Please make sure your children have warm coats, hats, gloves and scarves. If you need assistance in securing these items for your child we will work with you to find them.

This fall we are seeing an early start to the cold and flu season. It is important to talk with your child about good hand washing techniques which include using warm water and scrubbing hands with soap for at least 20 seconds, making sure to get in between fingers and around the nails. They should also be reminded to cover their cough or to cough into their elbow. If they cough into their hands they should wash them immediately. It is also important to remind your student that they should not share personal items such as hats and gloves, or items like drinks, food, and lip balm with friends.

Know the signs and symptoms of the flu or other contagious diseases. Sick children need to stay at home for at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever or do not have signs or fever, without using fever-reducing medications. If your child becomes ill, encourage plenty of fluids and rest and offer a healthy diet. Treat the symptoms they are having. You may want to contact your physician- there are medications that may lessen the severity of the symptoms or illness. It is best to be seen within the first 48 hours of onset. By acting quickly, you may prevent any further complications of the illness. It is not too late to receive the flu shot. Flu shots typically take two weeks to become effective and you cannot get sick from the flu shot!

If you have a student in kindergarten there is still time to turn in dental and vision screenings. Students in third are asked to turn in vision exams. Any students without exams will be screened in the coming month. If you have a student in ninth grade they are asked to turn in a form from their dental screening or exam. If you have any questions about what your student needs or where to find the forms for screenings please reach out to me.

Please visit the health office website by going to the district website, hovering over the ‘Schools’ tab and clicking on the ‘Health and School Nurse’ link for up to date news and links to download any health documents your student may need.

Many of you monitor your child’s grades, lunch balance, attendance, and lesson plans on-line (remember this procedure carries over year to year) via JMC. If this interests you, please call the middle school (712-375-5939) or email me at [email protected] for more details.
