THERE is delight at Hinderton School, in

Whitby, following the announcement of a

    superb Ofsted report.

The primary special school for pupils with

    autistic spectrum conditions is celebrating

an Outstanding report from OFSTED. This

is the third in a row for Hinderton School,

which has been judged to be outstanding in

2003, 2007 and now in 2010.The report said: This is an outstanding

school. The headteachers vision to create

a child-centred place of learning that brings

out the best in all pupils is deeply rooted in

all the schools work. The comment by one

parent, The school is excellent and I cant

imagine my son being anywhere better,

typies the views of others and reects the

very positive impact of the partnerships

established to ensure that pupils needs are

    fully met.

    Hinderton School celebrated its 40th

anniversary this year, having moved from

its original location in Neston to Capenhurst

Lane, Whitby. The school held a successful

open day earlier in the year and welcomed

former pupils, parents and member of staff.

The report went on: Pupils make

exceptional progress in their learning from

the time they start at the school. Teachers

are highly skilful in identifying the needs of

individual pupils because of their extensive

    professional knowledge about teaching

children with ASC. The quality of care and

support provided to help pupils access and

engage in their learning is outstanding..

    an exciting and engaging curriculum

provides memorable experiences and isdelivered through highly effective teaching

that challenges pupils to participate in

activities that extend their learning and skill

    development.

The school community is underpinned by

    warm and respectful relationships between

    adults and pupils

    The dynamic and self-challenging school

    community demonstrates outstanding

    capacity to improve.

Waking up together every day, enjoying cosy nights in,

decorating and DIY, and saving money as two live as

cheaply as one - there are many reasons why setting up

home with your partner seems like a great idea.

Moving in together is a thrilling and romantic time, full ofoptimism about your shared future. Its easy to understand

why few people stop and think about their legal position.

Many people living with a partner do not realise that, even

in this day and age, unmarried couples are not protected

by law in the same way that married couples are.

For example, did you know that if you move in with your partner and the house is only in their

name you have no rights to the proceeds from the sale of the house - or to inherit the house if

    they die?

Every year many people discover that even though theyve handed their partner money each

month towards the mortgage and the bills, they have no claim on the property because its onlyin their partners name. Their relationship ends or their partner dies and they are left homeless

    and out of pocket.

If you are thinking about - or already have - moved in with your partner, its well worth taking

legal advice to nd out what rights you have, where you and your partner stand with the law in

all situations, and what you can do to make your position more secure.

You will have a chance to discuss with your solicitor the history of your relationship, and the

details of your assets and those of your partner.

Your solicitor will explain your rights. They will highlight the circumstances where you or your

share of the home could be at risk and will tell you what action is to consider taking to avoid this.

Of course, a solicitor can only act for one partner at a time. They are there to help you nd thebest way of safeguarding your interests and your future.

This is especially important if you have children.

Many parents dont realise that if they are not married only the mother has automatic parental

responsibility for the child. A solicitor can help you make an agreement to share parental

    responsibility with your partner.

The law is currently changing so that if you jointly register the birth, the father has parental

responsibility as well. You can check with your solicitor to nd out whether this applies to you.

Your solicitor can also explain what it means for you and your partner if one or both of you

has children from a previous relationship, as the law does not automatically give parental

    responsibility to cohabiting partners.

    Q. Help! I have very puffy skin below my eyes. What can I do to

    reduce the pufness?

    A. This question is asked so frequently that I have decided to give an

    extended answer to your question.

The solution to puffy eyes will depend very much on the cause of the

pufness. If you have always had puffy eyes, this may indicate that you

are genetically predisposed to having fatty deposits in this area; or, the

pufness could be a result of ageing when the fat pads beneath the skin

start to shift altering the eye contour. In both of these instances there is

really is no cure other than with surgery.

However, if your eyes arent usually puffy and you awake to nd your

under eye area is swollen, this type of pufness is relatedto inammation. Firstly, you need to apply something to

reduce the swelling. Cold compresses are a good, quick and

inexpensive solution because cold causes swollen skin to

contract. Soak cotton wool pads or a piece of clean cloth

in cold (not icy cold) water, or apply a gel-lled eye mask

    from the refrigerator.

Cold cucumber slices are also helpful, but they work

because they are cool, not because they have any magical

ingredient. You can also apply used, cooled tea bags,

however they need to be the caffeinated type as the

caffeine together with the tannins helps to contract thedistended skin. Whatever you decide to use, lightly press

the cold compress on the puffy areas for several minutes to

    help the swelling subside.

Continual pufng up and then deating of the delicate

skin around the eyes will eventually lead to eye bags and

wrinkling so its important to nd the cause of the pufness.

If you wear eye makeup ensure that you are removing all

traces every night. Avoid using an oily eye makeup remover

as this can often cause pufness.

Whilst on the subject of skin care products make sure thatyou use a product specically designed for the delicate

eye area and use the product very sparingly. A bead of

eye cream about the size of a grain of rice is ample for the

eye area. During the daytime it is also important that your

eye cream contains a sunscreen to prevent the thin, fragile

skin around the eyes from premature wrinkling. Check the

ingredient list of your skin care products to ensure that

they do not contain fragrance. Throw out any products that

    contain fragrance.

Rubbing the eyes can also lead to pufness and check out

any allergies that you may have from pollens or food withyour GP.
